For our wedding, my husband and I did not want our first dance to be the high school sway because let’s face it, everyone would get bored after a minute of that. Therefore, we decided to take dance lessons at Arthur Murray in Waterford Lakes because my wedding planner had recommended them. We both had never done any kind of ballroom dancing and before starting lessons, my husband and I were terrible dancers. I’m not saying we are awesome now, but we are passable at least.
After talking with one of the instructors, we decided to go with 12 private lessons. Private lessons are expensive, but it was an investment that we wanted to make. For our location, the pricing came out to be about $80 for each 45-minute lesson for the two of us. In the end, the cost was definitely worth it for us. Something that you and your partner have to keep in mind is you will not get better overnight. You have to allot enough time before your wedding to take the lessons and to practice, practice, practice to make them worth it.
Our instructor ended up being Antonio and he was so sweet and very patient with us. He choreographed the whole dance and even added some more complicated moves that looked really beautiful, but were within our comfort zone to perform. I was worried about dancing in my dress because it was a lot of dress. When bustled, it was like a ball gown skirt. So, Antonio did a free 15-minute practice run-through with me in my dress and shoes to make sure I would know how it would feel dancing and to help me adjust my movements as needed so I would not fall flat on my face.
In the end, we had a beautiful first dance. Thanks to all the practice, no one even noticed when we messed up at one part because we had practiced how to recover and to just keep dancing.
My now husband and I started dance lessons a few months before our wedding, so we could have a choreographed first dance. We worked with the staff at Arthur Murray and they made us feel so comfortable and at ease through the whole process. They gave us excellent tips throughout our lessons, and on the day of the wedding we felt relaxed and calm knowing that we were set for our first dance! We enjoyed this experience together and it always flew by quickly at each lesson! I can't recommend them enough!
I had a bit of an unconventional wedding dance. My father passed away several years ago, so I wanted my two brothers to dance with me. Our instructor listened to the song that I choose and created a dance that would incorporate both of my brothers. None of us had any dancing experience whatsoever. Our instructor was extremely personable and extremely easy to learn from. Overall it was an incredible experience. The dance lessons were pricey, but worth every penny because there wasn't a dry eye at the wedding and the dance with my brothers was absolutely beautiful. I know we made our father proud.
My father and I came to Arthur Murray a week and a half before my wedding date asking for a crash course in dance for our father- daughter dance. In 6 lessons, they gave us a choreographed V. Waltz to 'Once Upon a December' from the Anastasia soundtrack. The instructor was patient, sooo kind and make the lessons fun and enjoyable! The dance turned out beautiful on the big day and all the guests loved it! Definitely would recommend 100x over!
Gioia was our instructor and she was awesome. Patient and kind, even when I got sick right before our wedding and had to reschedule a few classes. Our families were very impressed that we could dance!
We were interested in learning more than the "prom sway" for our first dance, but unfortunately, we had also waited until a month before the wedding to realize this. The people at Arthur Murray Waterford Lakes did not seem concerned. We took lessons for several days a week leading up to our wedding day. Working with the instructors is great, everyone is happy to see you there and gives great direction. We learned so much in a quick amount of time, but he and I felt very comfortable on the dance floor, even in my monster gown. There were tears everywhere, so I can only assume that we looked okay, haha. My husband and I are now continuing lessons at the studio for fun because our experience beforehand was so great. It's a great way to spend time with your significant other. The price might be a bit difficult for some people to work with, but if you are interested and able, I would recommend it!
