My fiancé and I had zero dance experience, but Joie was patient and helped us feel confident! As far as the studio — we booked 6 very expensive “private” lessons, yet we could only hear our wedding song for 2 out of 6 lessons. Our lessons were mixed in with group salsa classes so it was hard to learn timing. The studio has no A/C, so summer lessons were miserable.
Wonderful people. My fiance and I really love going every week to our private lesson and once or twice a week to our group lessons. We have learned so much about dancing.
We had a poor experience with our instructor Miko(sp?). There was confusion about our initial agreement on what we wanted for our choreographed dance and this made us lose time during our expensive sessions. He forgot the steps, seemed to have a poor attitude, and even refused to take a short cell phone video of our dance on our last session!
We went to the Arthur Murray dance studio on Western Ave in Seattle. We had so much fun and totally nailed our first dance (which is impressive because we're both clumsy and have zero grace). We got the 4 lesson package which included additional group lessons and parties. The price was outrageous. We absolutely loved it though, and it was fun to learn something together, even when frustrated. The only annoying piece besides the cost was the pushy salespeople/instructors. After each AND EVERY lesson, they'd do another hard sell to get us to buy more lessons. All we were thinking about was the wedding, no way were we anywhere close to thinking about spending even MORE money or planning anything after that. We may have considered going back for lessons after the honeymoon/eventually if not for that pushy attitude.
We got a groupon for this studio. My husband is very uncomfortable with dancing and after a few weeks he was not only comfortable with waltzing but intrigued with the idea of learning other dances. Our instructor was warm and funny, very talented and great at giving instruction. When our groupon gave out and we saw the prices to continue classes we stopped, the prices for the short classes were more than our rent was. But if you can get the groupon or only need a few classes they are amazing.
Let me start by saying we had an awesome teacher, Peter. Personable, laid back, able to joke with us. And he taught us some awesome foxtrot moves for our first dance!
However.
The pricing is outrageous. We wanted to dance well, so we got the 8 private and 8 group lessons package. Unfortunately, that put us into the "possible convert" pool, and the manager, Carrie, would NOT stop pestering us to join their ridiculously expensive monthly membership. She also tried to force us to stay at a "dance party" by literally tugging my husband away from me as we tried to leave. She later went on and on about how even though we told we're introverts and don't like all the interaction with strangers at Arthur Murray--which happens even during "private" lessons--she told me that they would make us less of introverts, and more popular. Seriously.
Did I mention that the private lessons aren't private? It's just you and the instructor, sure, but there's at least one group class and two other "private" lessons going on at the same time, in the same space. We rarely were able to listen to our first dance song all the way through, even just two weeks before the wedding. It's hard to learn to foxtrot when a salsa class has priority for the music!
Most of your time will be spent with them trying to up sell you! We only wanted to learn some steps, one dance really and almost all of our lessons were cut into by them trying to sell bigger packages. "Just teach us the steps already" We ended up never using our last two lessons getting the just of the dance.
I'm not sure why it was so hard for the people here to understand that my fiance and I were there for one reason: to learn a dance to our song for our wedding first dance. No, we were not interested in "social dancing", nor did we want to hear more about it or "educate" ourselves to it. Leave us alone. These people were incredibly pushy and annoying. No matter how many times I said no, they kept pushing. It frustrated me so much, that I became visibly upset and had to clentch my teeth before I lashed out at them and their suggestion that we "educate" ourselves on "social dancing" before we dismiss it so quickly. However, the lessons and our instructor were amazing. I wish I only had to interact with Teresa, our instructor-- then our experience would've been much more pleasant. Our dance was great and we felt totally confident on the dance floor in front of all of our loved ones. A+ for instructor and dance; F for customer service.
I bought a Groupon for dance lessons and my husband and I had a few lessons before our wedding, in hopes of impressing everyone during our first dance(we didn't end up using anything we learned...). We had fun doing the lessons and our instructor was great, but it was apparent that the system at Arthur Murray is all about selling you on the next package. The lessons were too short (but I can't complain since it was a cheap Groupon), and always ended with the car salesman-like manager lady shmoozing us into thinking we needed to buy more lessons. We will not be back.
We found Arthur Murray in Everett using Yelp. We are a lesbian couple and my wife wanted to get dance lessons for our wedding. I was petrified of getting on a dance floor alone in front of people and EVERYONE at Arthur Murray in Everett was very supportive. From the very beginning they were accepting of us as a couple and our instructor was amazing. Brittney helped me get over my fears and taught us some amazing dance moves. She choreographed a dance for us and our guests cheered as we danced our first dance! It was a little high pressured to continue with lessons after our session was completed but overall it was worth every penny. We had a blast and would do it again!
Arthur Murray Dance studio in downtown Seattle was the perfect place to prepare for our first dance and to get ready to dance in general at our wedding! We actually bought an amazon local deal for a set of lessons before we got engaged and then went in to complete them starting about 4 weeks prior to our wedding. Michael was (and still as) our dance instructor and he is so fun, we were lucky to get him! He helped us pick a song for our first dance (we brought in some of our choices and he showed us which types of dance would work with each song) and helped us prepare for our first dance. Everyone at our wedding said we looked like we knew what we were doing out there and we had a lot of fun, so all in all I think we met our goals! We really enjoyed dancing and learning from Michael and decided to continue lessons after our wedding. We would highly recommend Michael! He is a great instructor and fits in great with our personalities and our reasons for being there, which are to learn and have fun every week when we go to our dance lesson. He's easy to talk to and ask questions to and does an excellent job of making sure that he's staying on track and teaching us what we want to learn. Michael and Arthur Murray Dance Studio are great for learning to dance to your first dance and learning some basics for several dance types to feel comfortable out there on the dance floor!
I originally went with a groupon so that I could get dance lessons with my father because he was nervous about the father/daughter dance. We had such a great time, and our instructor Michael made my dad so comfortable that my parents sought out the Arthur Murray in California to keep up the dance lessons.
My dad then purchased us a package so my groom and I could come up with a fun 1st dance. We had a creative and fun dance to show off and we had such a great time.
Dance lessons were dead last on my husband and I's list of things to do before the wedding. However, I wish we would have considered it much earlier on in the game. While Arthur Murray is VERY expensive, we had a really great time! My husband is one who doesn't like to dance, but our teacher was able to give him enough steps to make him feel comfortable and confidant on the dance floor. We ended up surprising all our guest with our first dance and it was so much better than just standing there and doing the "prom sway"
We were impressed with the teachers at Arthur Murray. They made us feel comfortable and confident. Our first dance impressed all of our guests! Introductory pricing is fair, after that, the cost per lesson is quite high.
We went to the Arthur Murray Dance School on 13510 Aurora Avenue N. We did the full first level of dance lesson package. Levi was our dance instructor and we loved him. He was a great teacher and easy to talk to. His instruction was fun! The daily group classes are fun and informative and they have weekly "parties" to attend which are also a lot of fun.
We met Juliana, the manager/owner(??). She was nice, but it felt as if I was being peer pressured into purchasing a package that was out of our price range. The cost of the lessons were WAY more than we wanted to spend, and I was up front with Juliana about this. However, it was difficult to get any simple-to-understand information on pricing. I requested my charges be broken down in writing so I could see how much each lesson was and therefore choose what package that was in our budget and I received a blank paper with several figures written all over the paper that made no sense and was not helpful as a reference for decision-making. During the course of discussing the purchase of our next lesson block, I'm pretty sure she told me why I should re-sign a dance program six different times; each time I reiterated that I wasn't sure and needed to think about the cost and our budget.
I was misled by their groupon and was never satisfied with the resolution (there actually was no resolution, just explanation of what was MEANT by the groupon). Overall, the instruction was excellent, but the aggressive sales tactics and secretive prices really turned me off. I would not recommend this particular office nor would I return.
I really enjoyed our dance lessons but I always felt back into a corner by the time I left. They love to sign you up for more classes and I think I probably would have if I wasn't always pressured. Overall very fun and informative
great place to learn to dance or to get a choreographed dance!
Our time there was ok. However, it was evident they didn't want to very much so they could extend the number of times we came. Then on our last visit it was all just a sale to get more lessons purchased but we weren't even getting their full attention as it started late and there were other people switching the music and taking our space
We loved working with Arthur Murray. Right off the bat, they set us up with a plan to learn our wedding dance. They scheduled us for 12 lessons, and they were pretty much right on the money. We went from not knowing anything to looking good in three months. They make it very easy to find a time to dance (they have evening and Saturday appointments available), and they also have group classes and dance parties included with their tuition.
That said, they are *very* expensive. It's great if you take advantage of all of the group classes and dance parties, because then you really get your money out of it. I don't regret going there, because they get results done in a short amount of time, they're very flexible, and they're a lot of fun. However, I don't think I can afford to continue lessons after the wedding.
Bottom line: if you can afford it, go there!
Overall, the staff at Arthur Murray is very professional. My husband and I enjoyed how enthusiastic and informative all the staff members were. The price is a bit steep for individual (couple) lessons, but we did learn a lot from our instructor. The studio tries to make you think you're getting a great deal for the lessons, but the "group classes" are pretty worthless, as they are just a place to practice what you've learned in a party atmosphere. However, if you've forgotten what you've learned, or you learned it incorrectly, this is just a place to reinforce bad habits. We did enjoy going to the "foundation" classes, and it was very nice to be able to go to as many of those that we wanted. We learned the most in our private lessons, and do not regret doing them, even though they were a pretty big expense. The end result is that my husband was comfortable dancing at our wedding, and we had fun and ease in dancing together, so I'd have to say the price at least got us the result that we had sought.
Bradley was our dance instructor! He was great fun to work with!
Our dance, I'll never forget....
It's pricey though.
