Because of this I didn’t want the cake to be the star of the reception, but a reflection of our love for each other and for our friends and family. I didn’t want a layered cake or over decorated. We wanted to be a minimal whimsical beauty that we can remember fondly. That is exactly what we got. Two separate cakes, one square and one round. Both white with fresh flowers adorned around each cake. There were many flavor choices to choose from and again, we wanted subtle flavors that everyone would savor and enjoy. The cakes did not disappoint. In fact, we didn’t have any cake to take home to enjoy later because there wasn’t any left when the reception was over.  I strongly recommend ordering a cake from Awkward Pastry for any big (or small) event. Our tasting was a delight—Jessica even included extra cookies! The cupcakes were as delicious as they were beautiful. ic to corn and corn syrups, so shelf-stable cakes/ingredients are a no go. This cake was not so sweet that it feels like you’re eating highly processed cake, but sweet enough and certainly flavorful to feel decadent and please me and my crew (and we all have sweet tooths). Each layer was a different flavor and Jess has lots of creative flavors, not only the classic faves. We chose (1) lemon cake with fresh berries and vanilla frosting (2) vanilla cake with raspberry curd and earl gray frosting — personally I loved that frosting — and (3) cinnamon cake with caramel frosting. We had previously purchased two sample boxes with mini cakes so I’ve actually tried 8 different options and they were all great (my kids sampled them all and agreed). We almost got the peanut butter frosting on chocolate or the orange cake with passion fruit curd, also amazing, it was hard to choose. It was an outdoor garden wedding and we asked for a semi-naked cake with fresh berries appropriate and decorated in the vibe of our venue. Jess delivered! Communication directly with Jess was easy and fast and she was even able to increase the cake size at kind of the last minute when I realized our glass blue bird cake toppers might not fit otherwise. No problem. And thank goodness we did because the cake disappeared quickly. Not even a slice to take home for the after party. Highly recommend.

ne a more beautiful cake. It was equally delicious! We picked her orange cake with passion fruit curd and buttercream frosting. All of our guests are still raving about how good it was! Jess was so lovely and kind and great to work with! I couldn't recommend Awkward Pastry more and can't wait to order more cakes and treats for future events!

eat (we ordered a pistachio w/ pistachio buttercream and a lemon w/ earl grey buttercream) and my husband any I were honestly pretty bummed that we couldn't enjoy more of our wedding cake that night considering how hectic and busy our evening was. As for the design—we asked for something simple mixed with a little bit of cottage core/witchy vibes and as you can see, she absolutely killed it!! Everything about the entire ordering process was just so smooth. She was kind, helpful, and pretty quick to respond to any questions I had. I look forward to ordering more treats from her in the future and I'll definitely give her more creative control as well :)

zing, and she has a beautiful vision for design and decoration. We ended up going with a multi-tier cake and some other assorted dessert stuff. Day of, the cake was delivered on time and decorated out with beautiful florals. After having to do some wrangling with other vendors, it was a total relief to feel like the desserts were handled. The cake was outstanding, and everyone absolutely loved it. Our only regret is we didn’t save ourselves a slice to enjoy the next day. We’re still craving some of the passion fruit curd and might need to order another little something to celebrate our 1-year anniversary. Thanks so much Awkward Pastry.
