I chose to customize my moms wedding dress and from the day I met Gohar when she sketched out my idea, I knew this was going to be great; it gave me so many butterflies. The plan: - Keep the bodice of my moms dress and remove the satin sleeves and skirt (picture of my moms dress at the end) - Add a fuller skirt made of tulle - Gohar added the idea of taking the little lace appliqués from the original skirt and adding them to the new skirt within the layers to create a peek a boo effect. - later I wanted to add off the shoulder sleeves which were made out of the bottom trim of the original dress About 4 fittings in, because of the age of the bodice, the material had started to fray and was somewhat weak. So Gohar had to change the plan and sew off ALL the original lace only to sew it BACK onto a stronger bodice. This, at the very least, doubled her work; probably more though. On top of that, she had to deal with me wanting to add more and more layers to the skirt each time I saw her lol. But she made it happen! There was a total of: - 5-7 layers all around - 2 more layers of tulle in the back - And horsehair tulle lining the bottom edge It was quite the process but such an exciting one! Gohar, I will cherish our time together on this project. You were patient, kind, and made me feel so comfortable at each fitting (total of maybe 8 I’m guessing?). This was so much more to me than a wedding dress but a representation of the love my mom and dad shared. A million times, thank you, for bringing this idea to life❤️
