How do you buy a $4300 wedding dress and end up spending another $3650 so she can wear it on her wedding day? This is how. Beware!! The shop owner is a great sales person but then.....
We purchased my daughter's wedding dress in February for a June 8 wedding. Because of out tight time line we had difficulty finding a dress that could be made and here in time for fittings ( or so we were told ) We selected a sample that was in the store from Lela Rose with full assurance that the alterations that would need to be made in order for the dress to fit properly and provide the coverage the bride wanted could be achieved. We endured 4 fittings, all resulting in failed attempts to do what had been promised could be achieved by Karen, the owner of the shop. The attempts to create modesty were simply to make the front of the dress tighter and tighter, which because of the design created enormous pressure on the vetebrae at the top of her neck. There was now way she could wear this dress for an entire day. The dress was now filthy from being handled so much and A WEEK BEFORE her wedding we had not resolved the issue. The seamstress sent a text during that week, which we accidentally received, saying she was f*#$@ing sick of working on the dress. What ???? This is a woman's wedding gown, selected for one of the most memorable days of her life. The owners response was that was between us and her. She was a subcontractor from her shop, so I believe that says it all about customer service. At this point we are frantic.
I ended up having to fly my daughter to her destination ( our home town on the Florida coast ) with her dress 8 days before her wedding to have someone here, who had the ability, completely remake the top of the dress. The shop did not pay for additional fabric which I found shocking seeing that all this fell on them. Nor did they refund any of the botched alterations fees.
So, how do you spend $3650 to have a dress suitable to wear? Failed alterations at the bridal shop. $975, Plane ticket to have dress fixed $800,
Additional fabric $575, remake top of dress $1300.
My advice. Go somewhere else, go anywhere else, avoid this shop!!!!!
Any business will always be welcoming and treat you like they value you as long as they are on the receiving end. A GOOD business is one that will solve the problems that arise when there are problems.
The store (Karen) ordered my dress late and created a great inconvenience on my family while we were planning an at-home wedding with a seated dinner. I even had to call the designer in New York to ensure the dress was ordered because Karen would not answer the store phone or her cell phone to confirm the dress was on its way! Once the dress came in, Karen scheduled three fittings at the same time and it felt very rushed - too rushed to have purchased a premier designer gown. Overall a bad experience.
I made an appointment for a dress fitting here and was not disappointed! All of the designer gowns are beautiful! Karen, the owner, was very helpful! They definitely tend to you when you make an appointment, which I appreciated! Budget Beware here though, since the gowns are designer they are pricey!! Only major complaint is they don't allow any pictures, so it's hard to compare to other things you've tried on once you leave. Pictures can usually be found online of the dress.
This store was a great choice for me, considering the kind of dress I was looking for! They have fabulous dresses...mostly designer. The selection is not huge, but was plenty for me. I found my dress in the 3rd one I tried on. The alterations lady they use was difficult to get in touch with, and actually missed an appt with me 2 weeks before the wedding. She is very nice and was apologetic, just seemed a little unorganized. Other than that, I had a very good experience.
We went to b Hughes because it was supposed to be one of the 2 best bridal boutiques in Nashville, TN. We ordered our daughter's dream dress almost a year before the wedding but found out 4 months before the wedding that there had been a "glitch and the dress had never even been ordered from Kleinfeld's. They did put a rush on it and communicated weekly until it came in. The fittings were disastrous - at the second fitting, the day before her formal portrait, the gown fit so badly and had been altered so poorly that my daughter left in tears, feeling like a deformed little boy. The store did get it done well enough for the portrait and completed it around 9 pm but the gown was wrinkled and dirty -as if it had been dragged over a very dirty floor. The owner did try to come through for us by getting a great alterations person, delivering the dress pressed and ready to the church and helping my daughter get into it before the ceremony. They did pay for the pressing, spot cleaning and alterations but at no time did they offer to refund the cost of the gown or compensate us in any way. It was a terrible disappointment. Another local bridal shop that we went to to buy off the rack said that this was an aberration for b Hughes and I know that must be true. If not, they'd be out of business. Everything else went perfectly for the wedding but the dress experience was disastrous. Go somewhere else.
B. Hughes has by far the best selection of bridal gowns anywhere in Tennessee! I was so relieved that we didn't have to travel to Atlanta or Birmingham to find my perfect dress. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and patient, making for a very pleasant overall experience. I felt like a kid in a candy store!
