STAY AWAY!! RUDE STAFF AND TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOR! Barmakian in Framingham has lost my business forever and the recommendations we have been giving are now over! All over a simple cleaning of a ring I purchased there. My engagement rin...g (minus center stone) is from here and while it came out beautifully, the staff has killed any chance of me shopping here again.
I should have seen this coming as the first problem was picking out an engagement ring. We had the sales associate Chris. When I told him I wanted a 6-prong ring he literally made a disgusted noise and said "no you don't". When I pushed back and said yes, I really do he told me they didn't have many as they are "not popular". I walked around the case and found more than one and made him pull them out. That would not have been the end of the world, but it was rude and if we hadn't already looked elsewhere we might have left.
REAL PROBLEM was today. I brought my ring in to be steam cleaned as I have a few times since it was completed. They looked at it through the loop and started asking questions. It started with where is this from. It's from there. "But not the center stone, correct". No - it's a family heirloom. Then it was taken aside after looking my fiancé up in the system where two women started whispering and pointing at it. Now I'm starting to panic like something is wrong. Randi Padernacht comes over and tells me there are two cracks in my center stone. This is news to me and not a cheap fix as the stone is 2 carats and has serious sentimental value. Randi tells me this in front of the people I'm with, without ever thinking of asking me to step aside or showing any sort of awareness that I'm getting upset or that this might be a PRIVATE conversation. She then makes me use the loop...which I don't know how to and am struggling to use. Who knows how to just do that?! All the while she's trying to point out "the cracks". I try and make a joke about feeling like they're pointing out all my diamond's flaws to give them a hint to be less RUDE and they're like no, no that makes it real but then keep on pointing out flaws in the quality.
I'M NOT THERE FOR AN APPRAISAL! Just to get my ring cleaned! New policy says they have to check it over they said. Also, they had to point it out "because once I get it cleaned all the flaws will really show" (RUDE!!). Only still there because my wedding is in two weeks and they're sending me into a panic that my stone is falling apart. Once I manage to use the loop to see the "cracks" which are really inclusions that are part of a diamond that's not perfect, thanks for making it seem way worse. THEN I notice there is an actual chip on the edge in between 2 of my 6 prongs. I point it out and they're like yea, we were going to mention that next. What?! That would be the first thing to point out!
At this point I'm beside myself as I don't have a clue how this could have happened. Never smashed it or even dropped it. They told me I probably hit it on my granite countertops or something. That it may not be a problem but totally could be and that I should look into potentially having it fixed so it doesn't completely get destroyed. Reminder - here for a CLEANING! When I said I'm very careful and haven't hit it they tell me I must have and that it's not possible it could have happened when they've steamed it in the past after it was set. I wasn't even blaming them, but they made sure to point the finger at me and tell me it was a careless accident like I can just replace a 2 carat diamond no problem. My fiancé and I don't have that type of money around to replace it even if it weren't an irreplaceable diamond as it came from his grandmother.
I ended up saying no thank you to the cleaning while trying to swallow back tears from coming as I walked away. I felt like they were QUALITY SHAMING my fiancé's grandmother's diamond and didn't care about how any of what they were saying could affect me. My coworker still got her rings cleaned and when she picked them up Randi asked if I was alright and then gave her card. As if I would come back and work with her after the way she treated me. I cried in the car on my way back from the store. I will not go back and suggest if you have diamond you want set, you take it elsewhere.
