Beacon Bar and Bistro did a phenomenal job catering my wedding. Lisa was amazing to work with from figuring out what I wanted to serve to how much I would need. The communication w...
as great.
We served a little bit of everything, Lobster rolls, shrimp pad Thai, brisket, salad, corn bread and nachos and bean dip. All of it tasted so amazing and our guests could not stop complimenting the food.
Lisa and her crew worked efficiently to get us the food nice and hot and they were all very kind.
The cost of it all was very fair and I would highly recommend using them for any events you plan to have.

Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing overall.
Communication was great in the beginning, and the caterer was flexible and responsive throughout much of the planning proc...
ess. However, there were several issues that created unnecessary stress leading up to and on our wedding day.
From the start, I communicated that we expected around 50 guests, yet the quote was based on 65 guests despite our invitation count indicating attendance would likely be under 50. While we were ultimately able to move forward, this was our first concern.
Two days before the wedding, the caterer reached out to confirm timing and indicated she believed the schedule was different than what had been discussed. We spoke by phone and thought everything had been clarified. The day before the wedding, she arrived at the venue unannounced to review the setup. Since she mentioned not liking surprises, I personally walked her through the kitchen and venue, and we again reviewed the timeline in detail: 4:30 ceremony, 5:00 cocktail hour, and dinner service at 6:30.
On the wedding day, she texted that she would arrive between 4:30 and 5:00. By approximately 5:30, she had still not arrived, and members of our wedding party were asking for an ETA. The response we received referenced the timing confusion and felt unnecessarily confrontational given that we had confirmed the schedule multiple times beforehand. Ultimately, she did not arrive until around 6:00, after guests had already arrived and were expecting hors d’oeuvres during cocktail hour.
I was also surprised by comments made during the planning process indicating that she was not making money on our event. As a client, that is not something I expected to hear, and it left me feeling uncomfortable.
Finally, the food itself did not meet our expectations. One of the reasons we chose this menu was to share Maine lobster with family traveling from Illinois, and unfortunately the overall feedback from our guests was disappointing.
Additionally, after the event we were informed that leftovers had been placed in the refrigerator for us. However, when we went to retrieve them, we were unable to locate any leftovers. This left us unsure of what happened to them, as we had been told they were saved.
While there were positive moments in the early planning process, the overall experience on and around the wedding day left us feeling let down.
Response from Beacon Bar and Bistro on 06/16/2026
Dear Erika,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. While we are gla...
d to hear that our early responsiveness met your expectations, we were truly saddened to learn that the wedding day itself fell short of what you had hoped for. Our goal is always to deliver a seamless and joyful experience, and we want to address your concerns with both clarity and care.
To help provide some context on the challenges and logistics leading up to and during your wedding, we wanted to share a few insights from our team’s perspective:
Guest Count & Pricing: Our contracts carry a standard 50-person minimum to cover baseline overhead, staffing, and the premium ingredients requested (such as the fresh Maine lobster). When your count adjusted from 65 to roughly 40, we applied the 50-guest minimum per the agreement, but we also wanted to support your budget by offering a customized payment plan. Any discussions around costs were purely meant to be transparent about these baseline operational requirements, and we sincerely apologize if those conversations felt uncomfortable or misplaced.
Pre-Event Coordination: Because venue setups can vary wildly, we attempted to connect the day before the wedding to coordinate a joint walkthrough. When we couldn't reach you, we took the initiative to inspect the kitchen setup independently to prevent any day-of technical surprises.
Timeline & Food Service: On the wedding day, our team arrived within our planned window. There did seem to be some shifting parts regarding the timeline, so our onsite communication was intensely focused on clarifying the schedule to ensure dinner could still be served hot and on time.
Food & Leftovers: We take immense pride in our culinary standards, and while our team was heartened to receive several warm compliments from your guests during the evening—including your mother’s best friend—we deeply regret that the meal didn't hit the mark for you personally. Regarding the leftovers, our standard safety policy is to pack and store everything in the venue's designated refrigerator. We confirmed this was done before our departure, though we unfortunately cannot account for what happened to them once our team left the site.
We completely understand that wedding planning is incredibly stressful and that you want everything to be perfect. We value your business and truly want to find an amicable way forward so you can look back on your wedding week with peace of mind.
Please let us know if you would be open to a brief phone call this week so we can discuss how to best bring this to a positive resolution for everyone involved.
Wishing you and your husband a beautiful start to your marriage.
Warmly,
Lisa/Beacon, Bar & Bistro

Our experience hiring Beacon Bar & Bistro was excellent. I hosted a small destination elopement party for my daughter's wedding in Bethel ME. The couple were looking for something ...
meaningful to their relationship and BBQ after snowboarding or hiking was their dinner choice. The weekend of their elopement just so happened to fall during peak leaf peeping in the mountains and the Freyberg Fair (which I'm assuming was having a BBQ competition that weekend).
After calling and email any and all local to Bethel BBQ places (and there are many) and receiving NO responses, I turned to The Knot for help. At this point I was willing to drive hours to give the kids what they wanted for this momentous occasion.
I reached out to Lisa Cooke, Owner of Beacon Bar & Bistro, responded immediately. Lisa didn't just take my order but she went out of her way to help me nail down exactly how of each item I should order, she advised me on what not to waste my time and money and put this mother of bride's mind at ease. She did not rush me though the process and answered no less than a hundred questions, some of them not even related to the catering! Shortly after our initial conversation concluded Lisa called back to let me know that she and her chef would be at the Freyberg Fair that weekend. Lisa and her team went out of their way to still work with me and help me pull of the dinner.
When all was said and done, the BBQ was outstanding, (pulled pork, jerk chicken and brisket) there was more than enough of the delicious BBQ to cover not only the dinner, but lunch for traveling guests the next day.
Thank you to Lisa and her team for an outstanding job and accommodating our party while onsite at the fair!
