I found May through The Knot and I am so glad she was my makeup artist for my wedding. I usually do not wear makeup and was never truly satisfied with the makeup I had done on me for my sisters weddings until now. May will assist if you are unsure of what you like which I appreciated a lot as it turned out so well in my photoshoot. Tanned Asian or not, May knows what she is doing. I have had no issues contacting her and she met her deadline without losing quality of the work. It was also a blast laughing and goofing off with her along with my bridesmaids. Highly recommend!

She is amazing 10/10 I am really satisfied by her hair and makeup! She is so professional and she knew exactly what i want. I asked her for different design hairstyle that i asked earlier. She did it so well!

May communicated very well with me to make sure that she gave me the “dream look” that I wanted for my wedding. I have really bad acne and scars, and I was scared that this would take away from my big day, but she covered it up very very well so that you couldn’t even notice it. She has such a good eye for makeup and hair, and what will look good. I told her to use her best professional judgement with the makeup so that it would make my features “pop” and cover all my “flaws,” all while matching my skin tone and not being too bold. In addition, May was able to make my (usually frizzy) hair tame and I absolutely loved it. She somehow made me look even better than I could have ever imagined, and she is also the sweetest person, she is very pleasant to work with, and I highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone to do their hair and makeup!

She was so quick to respond to my message and was very easy to schedule with. Not only did she style my hair just as I had imagined and more (with only a few picture examples) and did my makeup better than I had Ever expected, she was so fast and pleasant to talk to during the entire experience. May is an extremely talented and caring makeup artist and hair stylist. I would highly recommend working with May! For my wedding, I did the makeup and hair trial the day prior and did makeup and hair for myself as well as my family members on the wedding day. First of all, May is extremely skilled. It is difficult to find someone who is good at both hair and makeup and May is that person for you. My entire family was so impressed by May’s magical touch. For instance, my mom was only going to do makeup but after seeing how good May is, she decided to add hair also. Second, May is very receptive to feedback. Every person will have particulars they have for their makeup or hair. After the trial, on the wedding day, I had asked for more natural eyes. Although heavier makeup on the eyes would be captured better in photos, I had preferred more natural eyes. May was extremely receptive to this feedback and found the perfect medium between eyes that would be captured in photos well and a more natural look. Finally, May is extremely flexible and caring. I had some family events occur on the day of the wedding and May was very caring throughout. She was suggesting hospital names to search, was generous with pauses in between makeup and hair as I had to attend to family matters. Also, I asked May last minute if she can travel to the wedding with and she was nice enough to agree last minute. I have to say it was the best decision to have May attend the wedding seeing how the photos turned out. Thanks again May! It was such a pleasure working with you!

May is fantastic. She showed up early for my beach wedding, we reviewed the pics I sent her for hair, make up, dress style and bouquet color. She was so professional and sweet! She made few great suggestions like eyelashes and braiding my half up. It turned out fantastically ! She took photos afterward, that she sent me and helped me to get to the car heading to the ceremony. Her communication is stellar!!!

May was so calming for my wedding day. Showed her exactly the look I was going for hair and makeup and it was perfect. I just added a few accents in hair clips. Her make up smelled so good too! I requested special attention to eyebrows and eyelashes since I have neither from my recent chemo treatments. She applied the perfect brows and eyelashes still allowing me to look natural. If you're looking for a reliable & professional make up artist, please choose May! I loved working with her, she is very responsive and showed up early at 4:45am for 5am start. My skin had broken out a few days before, but it was no problem for May. She wasn't worried & you couldn't even tell after she did my make up!! I liked that she wore a mask/shield during the session & gave me a touch up kit in the end too :). May truly made me look and feel beautiful. She is incredibly sweet & I loved talking with her too. May is aMAYzing! We were blown away by her talent and amazing personality and professionalism. I hired her for my bridal makeup, my mother, my maid of honor, and an attendant! Everyone loved their hair and makeup! She uses high end products and my hair and makeup lasted an outdoor ceremony and reception. I danced a lot and was shocked that everything still looked so good at the end of the reception! I would highly recommend her.

I’m glad I found May through Instagram because she made the whole HMU process very seamless! She was very friendly and kind, and she made me feel beautiful on my big day! For the hair and makeup trial, she followed the hair and makeup ideas that I had sent her via email. She asked me some questions to get a Better idea of what i needed and what would suit me. I wasn’t sure if she could do the hairstyle I wanted because I thought my hair would be too short, but she made it happen!! The trial was so important because i decided that I wanted more natural falsies after a whole day of walking around with more dramatic falsies. This small change actually required May to tone down on the makeup and change the color palette, but the result was even better than during the trial! My mom asked if I could bring May to New York for my reception haha! The makeup was great but I was even more obsessed with the hairdo she did for me. It looked way better than the inspiration picture I sent her! I bought some hair combs for her to use as accessories and she styled them really well. Her creative eye is chefs kiss! She has great work ethics - arriving early, very responsive, practiced safe hygiene by wearing mask, shield, and gloves, and provided a small makeup kit for any needed touch ups. I also enjoyed chatting with her because she was very sweet. The bonus is that she has very gentle hands!

May and Paty were awesome! There was a parade in Waikiki on the day of my wedding. But they were still able to make it on time. They even got there before 2 of my bridemaids. Right from the start, May was very accommodating. I originally asked for hair and makeup for my bridesmaids and my mom and myself. But my mother in law and grandma wanted to get it as well. And she was able to accommodate them. She is also very organized and kind. She created a timeline for me so we could keep everything in the track of time. I also learned that May can speak Japanese. My husband's grandma didn't speak English so that was really helpful. We all look beautiful after. May did my hair and make up just like my ideal look. I was very satisfied. Thank you May and Paty.

Mayy is sweet, kind, a pleasure to work with, and she has a unique sense of style for makeup. Communication for me and my MOH (Maid of Honor) was easy to understand and easy to comprehend. I was very concerned about a pimple that came from nowhere, but she managed to hide it with makeup, like it had never existed. INDEED IMPRESSIVE! The majority of my bridesmaids and MOH had their makeup done by her. Their hairstyle was done by another person. Mayy did my hair and makeup, and WOW. She really helped me look my best! They were nice to help my MIL (Mother-in-law) to add-on some fake lashes last minute. [Note: My MIL was not part of the service pack we booked.] I was very impressed by how long the makeup lasted throughout the night. She even gave me a cute small kit for touch-ups! Mahalo Sister Mayy~

Mae was a delight to have to do my hair and make-up! She showed up promptly and got to work right away and was flexible about the tight space she had to work in. Mae listened to what I wanted for my hair and make-up. And when I realized it my was quite what I wanted, she even cut my hair a bit to get my desired look!

May was an absolute dream! She was incredibly flexible given changing schedules for both my trial as well as my wedding day, given my groom wanted to add a little makeup to the schedule and we needed to do touch ups at the venue (which was ~30 min away) after my maid of honor and mother were done. She also took my feedback after the trial to heart and made adjustments the morning of my wedding that were absolutely PERFECT. I looked better than I could have imagined and I know my pictures will be stunning. At one point I bawled my eyes out during the reception but my makeup stayed intact and I didn't need to touch anything up! She also left me a small touch up kit for my lipgloss, which I was so glad I could reapply throughout the evening so my look stayed fresh!

I found May through a friend who also had her wedding in Oahu. When I first reached out to May, she was incredibly responsive and after scrolling through her Instagram, I knew I had to book with her. May's prices were also the most reasonable, compared to other makeup artists I reached out to in Oahu. I had my trial with May three days before my actual wedding and May was very receptive to all of my notes. I didn't even have to remind her of my changes on the day of - she remembered it all and executed based on what I told her three days prior. My final hair and makeup exceeded my wildest dreams and I can't thank May enough for bringing what I had in my mind to life. May was also very accommodating - I made a last minute change to have my sister in law get her hair done and May was so flexible with this change. She also arrived earlier than the agreed time in order to set up and start right when we said we would. May - I can't thank you enough for your professionalism, flexibility and your amazing work! I hope to cross paths with you again some day.

May was amazing! During the trial we adjusted a few things, and it was perfect for the wedding. All of my bridesmaids looked beautiful. For doing a destination wedding, she made communicating so easy and understood exactly what I was wanting! Highly recommend!

I loved my wedding day hair and makeup! It was probably the best I've ever looked in my life. May was very responsive and flexible, very professional. I did a trial run with her first, and she discussed why certain things were the way they were based on her experience. We ended up compromising between what I thought I wanted and her professional opinion of what would look good, and the end result turned out even better than I hoped. The look both photographed beautifully and looked good/normal in person, which can be rare for wedding makeup I feel

May was great in every way. She communicated with me as needed when I needed to book her for a last minute elopement. She arrived early, was very cautious with covid, keeping her mask and face shield on the entire time. Her pricing is fair. Don’t forget to tip, she deserves it! She is the sweetest person, very kind. As a makeup artist, I was so happy with her work! My hair and makeup came out exactly as I asked. And even better! I was unsure about lip color, but she mixed something that would work well for me based on my complexion and I loved it! I felt beautiful and it photographed so well. I was so impressed with how fast she worked too but not overly rushing and still taking time to do great work and take some great pics of me after. I would book her again in a heartbeat if I needed to.

I hired May for my wedding last week without ever doing a hair trial. She was AMAZING! Usually when I ask for a hairstyle it’s never really what I ask for, but May was on point! She gave me the volume and curls that I asked for and it lasted all day! All I had to do was email her and send her a picture of what I had in mind for my hair and she already knew what I wanted to do and reviewed the style before she started the day of. May did an amazing job making 5 bridesmaids, 2 moms, 1 grandmother and myself all look beautiful on my wedding day! What was impressive was that she managed to get through all of us in less than 6 hours (make up and hair for 9 people). She understood everyone's skin/hair/style concerns, catered to their preferences while creating a unified look and feel for my bridal party. She helped create an understated yet elegant look for the moms & grandmother (as they had all requested for "not super made up" looks). She has great attention to detail, patience and overall a great demeanor even though she had to work with a gaggle of girls all day :) The make-up stayed on the entire evening and we all look great in photos! At first I was hesitant to reach out to May because she doesn’t list her prices online and has the most 5 star reviews, so naturally I assumed she would charge a ridiculous price. In fact, May’s pricing is reasonable and I loved the fact that she does airbrush. May was extremely professional and organized and always responded to my emails within an hour or so; unlike many vendors who you don’t get a response from for days! May and her mom showed up early on the day of to get five of us ladies all dolled up. Her makeup approach is natural yet beautiful. May’s hair and makeup held up for the entire humid day even though it was drizzling on us during the ceremony. If someone didn’t like the way she did something, May was happy to adjust and accommodate us to make sure we all loved our hair and makeup. The only downfall was that May wanted cash only so that was a hassle, but other than that I highly recommend Beauty by May!

I had many compliments and couldn’t be more happy with how my hair and makeup turned out. My request was for a soft glam look and her work turned out exactly like the photo I was aiming for. May is a talented artist, punctual, and very prompt with communication. The night before the wedding, I had a mild panic attack after discovering some ugly tan lines on my body that would have been very noticeable while wearing my wedding dress; however, May reassured me and put me at ease. She briefly covered me up and it was not even noticeable! Additionally, she stayed back a bit longer and offered to help put on my dress and heels since I was struggling. So sweet and attentive; overall, my experience was nothing but positive and I highly recommend her!

May is an amazing MUA! She is responsive and prompt on getting back to you - very professional and easy to work with. Also, she styles hair and her cute mom assist as well. I had the pleasure in working with May when my BF got married. Since then anytime I go to Hawaii and book a photographer I make sure May is available to do my makeup. Trust me she is that good - you won’t regret hiring her.

She was very prompt with her e-mail responses and accommodating to the circumstances of Covid-19. On the day of, May arrived on time and took additional safety precautions such as wearing a mask, gloves, and a face shield when working. She was easy to talk to and flexible with how I wanted my hair and make-up done as the weather conditions of that day made me make some last-minute changes. May was such a joy to work with, she's the best! Not only was she on time, she was early to a 4:45AM start!! I was amazed! During these time and coming from a different state I was a little worried about what safety measures makeup artists were doing, but May was wearing gloves, face mask and a shield. I was very impressed and felt really safe. I didn't really have a style that I wanted. I sent her a picture of my dress and I asked that it matches with the dress and something natural. She did an amazing job and the pricing is very competitive. Honestly throughout the entire process, she literally will make you feel like she's a friend helping you with your makeup on your wedding day. Very friendly and kind. I actually missed her when I left Hawaii!

May was wonderful. She did makeup and hair for myself and my stepdaughter for my wedding. She was extremely responsive throughout all the planning. She provided great information, feedback and resources on my questions of flowers to use in our hair. We provided her pictures of our hair and ideas we wanted and she quickly responded with what would work and what would need to be adjusted due to hair length. As she’s the expert I let her do what she thought would be best and she really came through with a beautiful hair style. We had such a great day with her. May is such a sweet, kind hearted, talented and professional hair and makeup stylist. I’d recommend her to all.

I planned my wedding in Hawaii from a distance and didn't have the opportunity to do any hair or makeup trials. It was risky, but I felt confident booking with May because of the amazing reviews that others had left for her. Leading up to the wedding day, May responded quickly to emails and worked patiently with me to figure out the day's schedule. May didn't miss a beat when we realised that she would have to start at 5am so that the wedding party could do everything planned. The end result? Everyone was so beautiful - bridesmaids, bride, and mothers of the bride and groom. Our makeup and hair lasted the whole day, and although none of us had a good idea of what hair/makeup we wanted, May gave us hair and faces that were beautiful for the whole day of activities. I realized after setting up my appointment with May to do my hair and make up for our trip to Honolulu next March 2021 for our 1 year Anniversary Dinner, that I hadn't done my review of May for our wedding this past March 2020. I want to be as beautiful for our Anniversary dinner as I was for our Wedding. I chose May for our wedding last March because of her reviews. And then after talking to her and having her do a trial for me - I knew she was the one to do my wedding hair and make up. I agree with other reviews that she is a sweet person. But she is also a professional who knows the art of making us beautiful, & she uses great products. I originally wanted her to use my make up because my skin is very sensitive, but after she explained the quality of her make up I decided to let her use it during the trail. Fantastic. Better than mine (I still need to ask her again what she used). My Wedding day started with May being on time (no stress waiting) and starting with my Bridesmaids. What a fun time for all of us getting pretty. I was last and May made me so beautiful. The look on David's face when he first saw me that day said it all, and I will never forget that look. Thank you May. Not just for making me beautiful, but like you said - making it the best day of my life (so far). Also, thanks for the touch up on Dave, you made him even more handsome.

May was absolutely fantastic!! I knew she was going to be great anyway seeing as my best friend recommended her after May did hair and makeup for her wedding a few years ago. May is so sweet and accommodating. Whatever you’d like done, she’ll get it done for you. If you want recommendations, she’ll give you her thoughts too, but won’t push anything on you. May did my hair and makeup exactly like how I imagined it’d be for a laid back island wedding. She even did my mom’s makeup a little last minute and it turned out wonderful! First thing first, May Is the sweetest lady! She is so kind an humble; she made my day so memorable! She did EXACTLY what I wanted and more; she made me feel like such a princess (in the best way possible). May is so awesome!!!!!! She did the makeup and hair for my bridesmaids, one mom and me. The timeline she’s sent me prior to the special day was perfect. We were so lucky that we even had time after she was done. My photographer was amazed by how calm everyone was. As soon as May entered the room I New I was in good hands and everything will work out perfectly. She is such a nice and friendly person.

May is an amazingly talented hair and make up artist and was the best choice to go with for my wedding!!!! She gave me a beautifully done up-do complete with braids, twists, and curls all weaved into a gorgeous bun. She made sure everything was in place and exactly the way I wanted it before walking down the aisle. Her make up is absolutely stunning and she really helped to accent my green eyes. The make up was soft, beautiful, and not overpowering. Most of all, the make up looked GREAT on camera. I am SO happy that I went with May and she comes highly recommended!!!!

May is a Lifesaver! At my makeup trial with May, she really listened to what I wanted. I don't really style my hair or do my makeup too often, so I didn't exactly know what to tell her, but somehow she was able to understand me perfectly; I LOVED my hair and makeup. I literally booked May 3 weeks before my wedding (I had some last minute issues with my former makeup artist), but it turned out that she already had another client scheduled around the same time that day on the other side of the island!!! Amazingly, she somehow she made it work! I don't know what she did, but she was able to be there for me AND her other client that day. (I think she had worked out a better schedule with her other client.) AND! On top of all this, she waived my deposit fee. Because I was sweet, she said... Are you kidding me? I love this woman! PLEASE give her business; you won't regret it. I know I'll be booking her again in the future; she's even reasonably priced!!!

Because neither my partner nor I wear makeup or do our hair in our day-to-day lives, we were pretty adamant about looking as “natural” as possible for our big day, even a bit nervous about the whole thing. Enter: a beauty superhero. We didn’t have anything to worry about with May. I feel like I barely gave her any direction other than “I don’t know if I want my hair up or down” and “please go light on the makeup” and she knew exactly what to do. Once she was done, I was stunned; I looked flawless! I had so many people at my wedding commenting on how incredible I looked and I was so impressed that my hair actually stayed put for the whole night, even after a jump in the pool! May was the perfect balance of attentive, polite, sweet, kind, and caring, got right to work without any fuss and was ready to move onto the next person without the need for a long break. I can’t believe just one person was able to do two brides and four bridesmaids in two locations without any fuss or muss, while staying on schedule! She even left us a little touch-up kit with extra pins and the exact colors she had (custom!) mixed for our makeup. I’ve never enjoyed being pampered but May quickly put me at ease and had me looking perfect on our wedding day.

May did my hair and makeup on my wedding day, as well as my adventure shoot. From day one when I first contacted her, she consistently gave prompt replies and was very clear on her services and prices (very affordable). May is very prepared as you can tell with her requests for inspo photos of your look and having a touchup kit ready just for you. My adventure shoot was at sunrise and May had no problem arriving at my hotel room earlier at 2am to get prepared! Not to mention her skills are amazing, she can recreate any look and tailor it to your face structure/skin colour. Everyone complimented on how beautiful I looked. It was so nice meeting her in person too- I met a new friend. I would not hesitate to recommend her to all the brides out there.
