It took me a while to calm my disappointment and frustration to leave some rational feedback.
There is no reason behind but to share about my experience with Tony. I believe this is the purpose of this page.
I was looking for a professional photographer in Houston – landed at wrong page, even Tony himself agreed and suggested much better photographers later on! Which was his constructive solution to the points that I brought up hoping that he would suggest a different session to fix HIS non-profession failures.
If you are very detail oriented, getting married not the first time and you know exactly what to do – you are fine (you can even skip the rest of the reading) since most likely you will like Tony’s work! BTW, make sure you contact him first or don’t tell him he is not your first choice cuz it concerns Tony if he is not your first option. He only wants to work with people “who like his work” – but you won’t get any consultation (even if you ask for it) until everything is over and then you will get a response – “If I knew that from the beginning I would just quit without arranging any session with you.” As I already expressed to Tony – the whole purpose of the consultation is to get the feeling of the customer and learn if you can meet the expectations. Yet, it takes courage and the assurance in the quality of work to do. Which he is lacking. Money comes first prior to any conversations.
I'm getting married first time and obviously, all of this is new experience to me that I was thinking I would enjoy. I was looking to the advices and suggestions from Tony; I needed to hear the plan of action that I asked him about; yet didn't hear anything defined. I needed to know what he wanted us to do; his professional suggestions on how to stand to get a better posture. I was fully relying on your professionalism. Unfortunately, his “catching-naturally-flowing-moments” style with closed eyes, weird looking faces, shadows on faces and totally awkward backgrounds – didn’t work for me! Even the flowers looked like a bag until I saw and fixed myself. Keep in mind he captures what HE considers best – so turn off your imagination. A few ideas I suggested came out totally out of box.
Last but not least – No matter how many highlights you bring to table about your frustration – the response is “I like the pictures” – I just wonder why you need customers?
Cherry on top of the cake - “about 15 photos for the album, this is not that bad. I believe you will not get 100% hit photos from any photographer”. This is the response from the professional photographer who promises you 80-100 edited photos on CD. BTW, there is a high possibility you won’t get them till next day !
I gave it a second thought after I got a lot of criticism from my family and friends on these photos and decided to get a professional opinion from Tony’s Colleagues from Moscow (where he is originally from). The response I received quiet shocked me – “he is not even a beginner, he is an easy rider who doesn’t know how to work with lenses, plot/theme/composition, cropping features, balance between dark and light tones
Well, that’s my experience … the decision is up to you!
