I've worked as a professional DJ and Musician for the past 10 years. As a kid, I used to DJ our annual block party at Big Sand Lake. Once I finally launched my own DJ company, I found it very fitting to name it Big Sand Productions!
Ever since, I have been fully committed to making each wedding as uniquely fun and memorable as I can. This company was built on the pillars of integrity and authenticity and has now developed into an incredible team of DJs who all share these values. It's my sincere hope to change the stigma of the Wedding DJ and bring only positivity to your wedding

I can't say enough about Pete, DJ John, and the rest of the crew at Big Sand Productions. We recently had our wedding at a golf club in the Chicago area and hired these guys. We ar...
e so glad we did!
Months prior to our wedding, we had a call with Pete and he helped set us up with a package that worked for our budget and a DJ that suited our style (it was a multicultural wedding with family from very diverse backgrounds). He sent us a link to the company portal, which contained a couple of comprehensive planning forms that really helped set our minds and ease and get everything planned out. On the day of the wedding, DJ John was an excellent DJ, mixing well and integrating our requests with some of his own music to keep the party going. He played all of our music for the ceremony and MC'd the reception, bringing energy and excitement to the crowd. All of those things were great, but you expect these things from any wedding DJ.
Pete will tell you that all of his DJs are also wedding planners, and this is where Big Sand really stood out for us! Like a lot of people in recent years, we didn't really have a full wedding planner in our budget, so we did most of the planning ourselves. On the day of, we had an on-site venue coordinator hanging around, but otherwise no one to really coordinate between our various vendors while we focused on getting married. DJ John showed up early and set up his equipment, then worked with the on-site coordinator, florist, officiant, and our ushers to make sure everything ran smoothly. He set up all of the cues for both the ceremony with the officiant and the reception with the venue, and he was constantly checking with us, making sure our reception went just the way we wanted. He coordinated the cake cutting with the venue, managed our speeches (of course), and directed our guests toward different events and end-of-night transportation. Basically, he handled all of the little details that we would have hired a wedding planner to take care of, allowing us to just relax and enjoy our day. Our wedding was perfect - more than we could have hoped for - and that was in large part due to DJ John.
We can't express our gratitude enough towards Pete, John, and Big Sand Productions. We highly recommend them to anyone who wants great music, great MCing, and a DJ who goes far beyond the normal scope of the job to make your wedding day perfect!

We had a great experience with Big Sand throughout the entire planning process. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with the DJ assigned to our wedding, especially considering...
the level of experience we paid for. While the music and ability to keep people on the dance floor were great, there were several issues with professionalism and MCing throughout the day. Multiple important members of our wedding party and family were repeatedly announced by the wrong names, including the father of the bride, father of the groom, and best man, despite corrections being made beforehand. There were also several awkward and unprofessional comments made over the microphone that left both us and our guests confused. I truly believe there is a BIG difference between being a good DJ and being an experienced wedding DJ and MC. I am sad to say that our DJ was one of the only parts of our wedding day that we wish we could change. My advice to future couples would be to really pay attention during your initial phone call and make sure you feel that the DJ assigned to you is a good fit for your personalities, expectations, and overall wedding vibe.
Response from Big Sand Productions
Hi Shannon,
Thanks for the honest feedback. We’re happy to hear that the planning was smo...
oth and the dance floor was packed all night. Keeping the party alive is always our main goal. At the same time, we completely understand your frustration with the introductions and we're sorry we fell short of the mark. Last-minute name and lineup changes right before doors open can be chaotic to manage on the fly, but getting VIP names right is still a baseline standard we take seriously. We’ve already talked with our DJ about double-checking the lineup in person before grabbing the mic so sudden changes don't cause slip-ups.
You’re 100% right that finding the right fit matters. As a DJ company, couples hire us for reliable communication, fair pricing, and DJs who know how to read a room and keep people dancing. Couples who want a hand-selected, white-glove MC are usually looking for a luxury sole proprietor, which is a completely different style of service and price point. We appreciate you helping us tighten up our process, and we genuinely wish you and Josh all the best in your next chapter together. Take care.

My husband and I got married on 08-08-2026 and we used Big Sand Productions, a preferred vendor through our venue Foundry 45. After we talked with the owner and they got to know us...
, we were assigned our DJ, Antoinyo. Both experiencing different DJ’s at weddings, and dances, we truly have never heard a better DJ! Our dance floor was full the ENTIRE night, and we heard so many great things from our friends and family about how much fun they had on the dance floor. Thank you so much for being such a big part of our day, and a special thanks to Antoinyo for making everything perfect. I could not recommend him any more to others- he was absolutely phenomenal! He made sure that our day ran smoothly, did ceremony and reception music, made sure we were content with our songs and listened to what we truly wanted! I have heard so many great compliments from our guests about how great the music one. We would 100% recommend Antoinyo and can’t say enough great things about him.

We were very disappointed with our DJ for our wedding on 8/1. Our wedding was at Nippersink on the lake, which is one of their preferred vendors and they gave us a DJ who has never...
been there before which was off. The DJ we had has been a DJ for 1,200 weddings which we thought would be great. We had a good call with him a couple days before our wedding to go over songs and how the day would go. Our DJ played the wrong song when the groom and his mom walked in and when the bride was walking in. He tried to say the officiant changed things before the ceremony but the officiant didn’t know our song choices so I’m not sure where what miscommunication was. The DJ AGAIN played the wrong song during the groom/mother of the groom dance. What was the point of filling out the planning forms and having a call if those aren’t being used? During the reception, the DJ had no transitions between songs so everyone would just stand around the dance floor in silence before the next song would play. The songs being played were slightly slower than the original and then would speed up and did not sound intentional. The music kept cutting out at random times as well. The only good thing about the service was that the DJ did double check with us when guests requested songs that we had on our do not play list. Really disappointed that we paid for an experienced DJ and that was the service we received. Would not recommend this DJ unfortunately.
Response from Big Sand Productions
Hey Becca,
Please forgive our delay in response as we all felt it best to sit with this r...
eview until we could get all of the facts and respond to it in a productive way.
Let’s start with the ceremony. During the pre-run, the officiant went out of their way to approach our DJ and was adamant about the new song order you referred to. Since the ceremony had to move inside due to the rain (Big shout out to the venue staff, they were absolutely terrific throughout the entire night), our DJ felt sympathetic and didn’t want to burden you with the added stress of ceremony song logistics when you had so much else on your plate. He instead chose to trust the officiant’s word which was unfortunately incorrect. Because of this, our new policy is to always double check sudden ceremony changes with the couple getting married, no matter what. We’re very sorry you had to deal with this and please know that we will grow from it.
Jumping into the Mother Son Dance. Our DJ had both the Father Daughter and Mother Son songs cued on tracks 1 and 2. You’re absolutely correct that our DJ played the wrong track at first. 100% our bad. However, it was only for a few seconds before our DJ quickly mixed into the correct song and the dance continued smoothly. On one hand, we’re very sorry this happened. On the other, it’s hard to imagine someone using this as a basis for writing a 1-star review. Like any business in the wedding industry, public reviews matter. Please consider the damage you’re inflicting in accordance to the mistakes that were made. You posted this same review on Wedding Wire, giving us 3.8 stars (as of this time), which we appreciate and also feel is more reflective.
In response to your dance floor notes, you’re implying there was dead air between songs. This is simply not true and bodes no further explanation.
Regarding the song transitions, we are sorry that you did not like the beat matching software our DJ has used for over 1,000 successful weddings. After getting all the facts, it sounds like that by the time your open dance started, your mind was already made up about us and we could do no right.
Truly, we’re sorry you had to deal with two separate song errors compounded by a stressful rainy ceremony and a mixing style you didn’t enjoy. But please keep in mind that in addition being DJs, we are also human beings. We all sneeze. We all fart. Even our most experienced DJs accidentally play track 2 instead of track 1 from time to time. What you failed to mention was that our DJ was prepared, friendly, arrived early, worked with the venue staff to accommodate the rain, set up the equipment with no audio issues, managed your timeline, played and mixed the songs from your request list and kept the party going. While we acknowledge the 2 human mistakes that were made, we feel that at the very worst, this review should be a 3 or 4-star, not a 1-star. Take care.

My wife and I worked with Big Sand for our wedding ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception and had a wonderful experience. Lanise was our main contact in the process and was very co...
mmunicative and easy to work with. The music request forms they provide are detailed, which we appreciated because it helped us figure out any gaps we needed to fill for different parts of the wedding and reception, and it allowed us to give the clearest possible picture to our DJ of our musical vision.
Dave was our DJ, who reached out to have a call with us a few days before the wedding and made sure we were all on the same page. He did an excellent job setting the vibe of the whole event. In particular, we requested a chill Bossa Nova type playlist for the dinner, which we struggled to find ourselves, but he nailed exactly what we wanted. Dave also has a great sense for the energy of the dance floor, and he found just the right times to both reinvigorate the event and slow the pace down.
Overall, we had a fantastic time with Big Sand and felt it was a great value for what we paid.

They even made us a photo album with the print outs of the photo strips. This was so special and nice to have to remember our guests and our day! We were able to make playlists on our wedding account and they even had pre-made playlists to make song selections easier. This was so helpful during the wedding planning. I had a great experience with Big Sand as my wedding DJ- they were responsive and the process was very clear. The checklist/form they send you to fill out prior to the wedding was ...
easy to use and covered everything the day of DJ would need to run the evening smoothly. We were also able to curate a large list of songs to help the DJ understand our desired vibe. Clarence was our day of DJ and he was AMAZING - he nailed the vibe we wanted and was so friendly and an amazing emcee to help the day flow properly. Couldn't be happier :)
Response from Big Sand Productions

Honestly, I did not love our experience. One of my biggest frustrations was that we did not even have our call with the actual DJ until three days before the wedding, and there was...
not even a scheduled time for it, we basically had to wait around for her to call us. The day of the wedding, she also never introduced herself to us, which stood out because every other vendor made a point to do so.
There were also several issues during the event itself. She played the wrong song for my husband walking down the aisle, the transitions between songs throughout the night were rough. The fade out during our first dance was especially bad and really took away from an important moment. Overall, it just did not feel polished or organized, which was disappointing for such an important day.
Response from Big Sand Productions
Hi Alexandra, thank you for the honest feedback. We’re very sorry to hear about your frust...
rations and would like to address each point individually for you.
As a company procedure, our DJs schedule the prep call 3 days prior to the event. In our experience, we find this effective in accommodating any last minute changes in the music or timeline. With that said, we absolutely want all of our clients to feel stress-free throughout the entire process, especially the week leading up to the wedding! So our clients are always welcome to reach out and schedule an early prep call as long as we can collect all finalized planning papers beforehand.
We train each DJ to introduce themselves to our clients and the surrounding staff so we’re very sorry to hear that we did not follow through with this at your wedding. We’ve found over the years that our clients tend to prefer us to remain more in the background when we’re not on the microphone but we completely agree that a proper introduction and handshake go a long way. We can assure you that this will be addressed moving forward. Every DJ on our team has a genuine care for each client that hires us and it’s important that we convey that to you. We recognize that there are many DJ companies to choose from and are grateful for each client who chooses to work with us.
Regarding your husband’s walk down song, our DJ sent us the playlist for your ceremony and the song she played did in fact match the song listed in the planning form. Regarding your first dance, our DJ informed us that you asked to fade the song out at 1:50, which she did. If there’s something that we’re missing, feel free to send us an email letting us know what specifically went wrong from your perspective. We take these formalities very seriously and want to assure that each song selection and mix is executed to perfection.
As far as the dancing transitions are concerned, it sounds like there were a number of song requests made by you and the wedding party for songs that were not listed in your original playlist. We are always more than happy to accommodate these requests! However, if the requested song is a bit more niche and hasn’t been previously downloaded, we do have to rely on third party apps like Spotify or Apple Music to play them for you.
Again, we’re very sorry that you experienced these frustrations and sincerely hope this response helps clear the air. With all that said, it was such a pleasure getting to work with you & Matt. We truly wish you both all the best in your next chapter together. Take care.

was alittle disappointed there wasnt much dancing.
Response from Big Sand Productions
Hey Brianna, thanks for your feedback. We're very sorry that not all of your songs were pl...
ayed during the wedding. During our prep call with each client, we ask about the preference of strictly playing the songs on the playlist versus reading the room and it sounds like there was a little disconnect there. We'll revisit this with all of our DJs moving forward to ensure that all of our clients feel great about the music selection all night.
With that said, it was such a pleasure getting to work with you & Louis. We truly wish you both all the best in the years to come!
