Birthers of Civilization is a culturally rooted wedding officiant and full-spectrum doula practice based in Oakland Park, FL — proudly serving Broward County, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach counties, with ceremonies available statewide across Florida. Led by Athena Gabriella Guice — a Black and Puerto Rican (Afro-Boricua) wedding officiant, full-spectrum doula, doula trainer, and community leader — every ceremony we hold is written collaboratively with the couple. Your story, your culture, your values — never a generic script pulled off the internet. Whether you're planning an intimate elopement on the beach, a full traditional wedding, or something entirely your own, we bring presence, intention, and cultural depth to your day. ALL COUPLES ARE WELCOME HERE. We joyfully officiate interfaith, intercultural, bilingual, LGBTQ+, and blended-family ceremonies. South Florida is one of the most beautifully diverse places in the country, and our ceremonies reflect that — honoring every tradition, faith, and family structure a couple brings to the altar. We proudly offer JUMPING THE BROOM for African-American couples honoring their heritage — a sacred tradition rooted in Black American history, when enslaved couples claimed union through ceremony at a time the law denied them the right to marry. We carry that legacy forward with reverence in every broom ceremony we hold. We support families from the wedding day through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum — trauma-informed doula care rooted in Black maternal autonomy and reproductive justice. Many couples we marry return to us when they're expecting. We also train the next generation of birth workers through our Full Spectrum Doula Certification, with 2026 cohorts in Fort Lauderdale and Jamaica.
