We found Black Sheep Shelter by chance through a tag by a photographer on Instagram. It was not in our initial list of venues to visit but we are SO glad that we did. The property is beautiful and Jeff and Melissa were warm and welcoming hosts. It’s clear that they put a lot of effort into maintaining and upgrading the property and want to work with couples that love it as much as they do. We knew immediately that we had stumbled on a wedding venue gem. The price is reasonable in a sea of overpriced venues and includes tables, chairs, and more furniture. The vibes were right and we chose it as our venue for our October 2025 wedding. Every step of the way, Jeff and Melissa were accommodating and laid back. We planned our wedding from across the country and they answered every question we had, sent us measurements, and allowed us to visit the venue outside of the regular open house days when we were in town so that we could properly plan. They do not restrict vendors so we were able to choose whoever we wanted, though they do provide a list of their favorite vendors to get you started. The day of our wedding went smoothly and it was absolutely beautiful. Our guests were blown away by the venue and kept asking us how we found it. The property is large enough that guests can spread out and explore while maintaining a great flow so everyone knows where to go between ceremony, reception, dancing, bathrooms, etc. Every corner is so photogenic, making it perfect for wedding photos. The only things that gave us pause: dancing confined to a smallish looking glass house and music needs to be shut off by 10 PM, were not issues day-of. We had a guest count of 90 and never felt crowded on the dance floor. An AC unit ensures that it doesn’t get too hot inside the glass house. Though we would have loved to party into the night, it wasn’t a big deal to start our timeline an hour earlier so that there was plenty of time for dancing. The only thing that was tricky for us was that the lack of cell service in the area made our guests have to plan ahead if they anticipated needing a ride home at the end of the night. We did not provide a shuttle service but there is an option in the area if you want to. Even this wasn’t a big deal though. We feel so lucky to have found such a stunning venue with a great team running it. Jeff and Melissa are an inspiring couple that we hope to cross paths with again. If you’re looking for an outdoor venue where you can DIY your wedding, this is perfect. We recommend Black Sheep a thousand times over and wish them all the best as they grow their business.
