We had Cody / Blackcap do our wedding last month. He was the BEST! Our engagement photos were incredible, the wedding day, ceremony, and reception were perfect. Cody was with us for photos from start of the day getting ready until the lights came on at bar close. He was extremely professional, flexible, easy to work with, and most importantly captured all of our wedding memories perfectly!

I cannot express enough how amazing Cody is. We met him 2 years before our wedding at the Des Moines Wedding Expo and we were smitten right away. If you're looking for someone that will go above and beyond as your wedding photographer, then Cody is your guy. From spending almost 10 hours with us driving around the Rocky Mountains for our engagement photos, to helping us plan our wedding day, to helping manage the day of the wedding - Cody does it all! I can not say enough amazing things about our photographer!! First off, let me tell you, he is so much more than a photographer!! From a rehearsal helper to the day of coordinator, he will go above and beyond the call of duty to make sure your day is absolutely perfect!!! Cody loves what he does and truly cares about his clients, and it showed from the beginning to the end.. and we mean END! (because he was one of the last people at the venue!) When looking for a photographer, we didn't know where to start, but we did know that we wanted someone from the beginning of the day until the very end. We also knew that we wanted options with pictures and boy does Cody exceed both of these things. Cody is very knowledgeable and actually listens to what we wanted and to our vision. Cody was absolutely phenomenal! It wasn't a hard choice at all, seeing as how he did a spectacular job at my sister's wedding! He came all the way to Key West to shoot our wedding and I loved how all the photos turned out. He was basically my wedding planner making sure my husband and I had everything we needed the day of! He was super go with the flow and just made the day na heck of a lot less stressful.

If you are looking for a wedding photographer Cody is the guy for you! He is one of the only photographers that works all day instead of by the hour. Cody came to our rehearsal and dinner the night before and was with us on our wedding day from hair and makeup in the morning (8am) till the very last dance at our reception (11:30pm). Because he is able to be there for all of these events, Cody was able to capture some really special moments that we would've otherwise had to go without. He is very flexible, listens to your wants and needs and delivers tenfold. Highly recommend!

Cody should most definitely be your pick to photograph your special event. Before the ceremony. he took the time to get to know us and the details of the event. From there, Cody's creative genius took over to create the most amazing pictures of our event. We wanted mostly pictures of our guests, in action, enjoying the reception and our incredibly brief ceremony :). And, I sprung a last minute change on him by bringing in a surprise Polynesian dancer. Cody did an amazing job on our wedding photos and our engagement session as well. Cody is the best photographer in the business! He takes so much care to get everything right and to make sure his clients receive exactly what they want. For my sister’s wedding, he arrived to the venue before any of us and stayed until the event was over. He captured the entire day perfectly. And he is so fun to work with! We had a fantastic time with him in the bridal suite while getting ready. He kept the mood light during what can be a stressful time. I loved working with Cody so much, I asked him to do an anniversary shoot for me. The pictures he took of my husband and me are phenomenal. Any couple would be lucky to have him shoot their special day!

Cody did a great job with our wedding photos and engagement session! My husband and I were so thankful that we chose him for our big day! Leading up to the wedding day, Cody would frequently check in with us and offer advice and suggestions. His wedding experience is invaluable as he knows what works and what to expect, often thinking of things most people might overlook. We loved that he was there for the whole wedding day to take photos and tell our story from start to finish. There are so many photos from our reception that we would never have captured with a photographer that was only there for a set number of hours. We received so many compliments from friends and family expressing how professional Cody was by listening to what we wanted and taking suggested shots, helping to coordinate the flow of the day with a realistic itinerary, and working to lower our stress level with his personality and sense of humor! Cody is an absolute delight. A rare find in the photography world to be able to pose for photos and not feel awkward. We had some of the best photos I've ever seen for both the engagement photos and our wedding. Too many to even pick from that were amazing. He is so personable and fun to be around. He has great ideas about where to do photos and a keen eye for angles for the shot. In addition he also will listen to any idea you may have and go with the flow. He has the most up to date technology that really makes your photos pop. He will find a way to capture all sorts of crazy moments from your special night that you will ask yourself "how did he do that". My guests and family absolutely loved him. They still talk about my photographer at the wedding and even my in brother in law who got married before us was jealous of our photos. To top it all off he provided our photos to us very quickly after the wedding and people were shocked we had them back already. Absolutely fabulous. I recommend him to everyone!!

Five stars is simply not enough for Cody. He went above and beyond every step of the way. He made our engagement session fun and helped us feel natural. Cody helped us plan along the way - checking in with us regularly, answering questions about the timeline, and even coming to meet with us and the venue staff. We loved that he was there for our rehearsal and dinner on Friday, and then on Saturday he was with us from our 8:00am arrival through the last dance at 11:00pm. He captured so many beautiful moments and really got to know us and our family. Also, the photos are STUNNING!! No need to keep searching - Cody should be your wedding photographer.

Cody took the most beautiful photos, both on the wedding day and for the engagement photos. He was a real sport about planning the engagements last minute so I could have photos taken in the snow. It was so difficult to pic my top favorites for printing and display, and I wish I had the money (and wall space) to do large prints of all my favorites. Everyone who met Cody on the wedding day complimented his demeanor, his professionalism, and his smile. He was able to put people at ease, and it resulted in relaxed people looking their happiest. I would hire Cody every time.

The amount of time, effort, creativity, heart, and soul Cody put into my wedding was unbelievable. Cody was truly THE BEST vendor we had throughout our wedding planning experience. My husband and I come from two different backgrounds, and we really wanted to capture that in our engagement pictures. Cody was more than willing to travel to both of our homes and take some amazing photographs. He was such a great resource to have, offering advice from his experiences. Cody is with out a doubt the most amazing person/photographer I have ever worked with (Event Coordinator). I first saw his work on a friend's page and began to obsess at the quality, then got to meet him at the wedding and knew he was "my photographer." From there I introduced my friend to him, my sister, countless couples from my venue and of course hired him for my own wedding! I can't say enough about the time he takes out of his own life for his couples to make sure they are comfortable with where they are in their planning stages, comfortable with him in general and his amazing abilities to capture the perfect moments. He travels in the U.S. (and outside!) For his couples and even came to a tiny area in upstate NY for our engagement photos and then down to Kill Devil Hills for our wedding. I couldn't have been happier with the moments he captures because they aren't just pictures, they truly are moments in time and I have many moments that will always be my favorite of that person forever. Getting to work with Cody twice is the only good thing to come of having two weddings due to COVID. He is so knowledgeable and having his help planning a pandemic wedding was so useful. He has been in this industry so long that there isn’t anything that he hasn’t seen or doesn’t have advice for. He made us way less stressed and always helped out when he could. The value of his package for literally all day coverage can’t be beat. He comes to your rehearsal, gets to meet your family, take pictures of you practicing. It helps your family get comfortable with him and for Cody to work even better with everyone the next day. He will be one of the first people with you the morning of your wedding and one of the last at the end of the night. Capturing all of the priceless moments in between. He has truly become a friend and I wish he photographed things besides weddings so that we can hire him again. His monthly check-ins were helpful and showed he truly cared. He’s so passionate and you get to see it when a shot turns out even better than he expected and it makes you so excited to see how they turned out. He gets you back the pictures way quicker than I would have expected and in a beautiful wood box that we have on display in our house. We have printed so many photos that he has taken, our house have turned into a shrine to Cody. Our families and whole bridal party enjoyed working with him and had so much fun taking pictures. With so many things to plan for the wedding I knew when hiring Cody I wouldn't have to worry about a thing when it came to the photos. Cody was so attentive in the months leading up to the wedding, the week of the wedding, at the rehearsal, and the day of the wedding. Checking in and making sure he had everything he needed months before the wedding made sure that Cody wasn't one of the last minute problems I had to deal with the month, week or even day of the wedding. My husband and I wouldn't consider ourselves experts in front of the camera but Cody made us even forget we were having our pictures taken. My husband and I loved all of our engagement and wedding photos, which is why its great that Cody lets you have all of them for a flat fee. When we looked at other photographers it was disappointing to see that you could only choose a certain amount of photos or have to pay extra for more. Cody lets you have them all. Would I recommend Cody? Without a doubt. I would hire him again in a heartbeat.

I cannot recommend Cody highly enough!! We finally chose to have a small backyard ceremony with just our immediate family and wedding party in attendance. In such an intimate setting, it was even more important to have a photographer whose personality was a good fit for us. Cody was absolutely amazing from start to finish! He called every couple of months (even though we hired him over two years out) just to check in, see how we were doing, and to make sure we didn’t need anything as we continued our planning. He was always very responsive to any communication and was more than happy to meet with us anytime we felt necessary. He worked with our hectic schedule for any of needs- including shooting out engagement photos in the freezing cold with thousands of people around and you couldn’t even tell. He captured every photo he took perfectly and told our story better than I think any one else could. We still look through our photos and remember every single moment. I haven’t really written any reviews on people or services but I just have to brag on Cody. First of all, if you are a bride that has a lot of anxiety like me, Cody is the perfect photographer. He has such a calm demeanor that instantly being around him, your anxiety decreases. He checks in on you and not just because he feels like he has to, but because he genuinely cares about you and your well being. He works so hard. When I say he works so hard that really is not giving him justice. He is there with you every step of the way. Rehearsal dinner he is there. Setting up the venue he is there (and asking how he can help). 7:00 am getting ready he is there. 10:00 pm at the last dance he is there. Not only is he just there, but he is living it and breathing it with you. He puts his whole heart and soul into making your wedding the most important and most wonderful experience. He listens to your requests and never judges you even if your crazy comes out a little! Not only is he there with you and capturing the moments, but we received our pictures back within 2 weeks! They are breathtaking and every time I look at them I fall in love with that day and my husband all over again. Cody truly is the most fantastic photographer and for all anxiety filled brides, he will calm the storm.

Throughout this Covid-19 pandemic, Cody was there the entire step of the way for us. He went above and beyond what we could have ever imagined. Cody is the BEST! If I could give him more than 5 stars, I would. He arrived at the venue the same time the bridal party arrived and stayed with us til the very end....a 14-hour day. He was sooo much fun to work with and made everyone feel so comfortable. I couldn’t have asked more from him. He was like part of my wedding party by the end of the night. Several guests came up to me throughout the night commenting on how amazing our photographer was....plus our photos were incredible.

We hired Cody to be our photographer for our May wedding and soon realized that was one of the best financial investments we made! His professionalism and support truly made our day picture perfect! Hiring Cody as our wedding photographer was definitely the best decision my husband and I made! All of our photos turned out wonderfully. Cody with Blackcap Photography in Des Moines needs to be your wedding photographer immediately. He is down to earth, flexible, reasonably priced, polite and timely. I didn’t even notice him taking pictures the entire time he was so stealth! We got an engagement session AND a personalized USB case with our wedding photos which were completed within 2 weeks of the event! I would 10/10 recommend him to anybody and everybody.

It all started when we booked our engagement pictures with Cody. We were living in Michigan at the time and he generously offered to make the trip to shoot our engagement photos where we dreamed of having them. He worked hard to find spots that would be a beautiful backdrop, even when he had never stepped foot in the area before then. We had our photos back within 2 weeks and we were blown away! As the weeks flew by to our wedding day, Cody made it a point to check in with us to see if we needed anything and to simply ask how everything was going. Then came wedding day. Cody was there from rehearsal dinner the night before and up at the salon at 8am to capture all the moments - not to mention, driving over 80 miles to get there. When I had my one moment of weakness, Cody was there to reassure me he would do everything in his power to get us caught back up to the timeline - and he did just that with time to spare! He stayed all night until we began cleaning up, capturing candid moments on the dance floor, crowd reactions and memories we had forgotten about until we saw the pictures. To have a photographer literally capture every moment to preserve the best day of our lives was the best investment we could have made. From the bottom of our hearts, Thank you Cody!!!

My husband and I cannot say enough great things about Cody (blackcap photography). From our initial booking consultation over the phone, he was calming and was able to answer all of my questions. Cody gave us a call each month to ask if we had any questions at all regarding any aspect of the wedding. He has taken photos for so many weddings that he was able to answer questions about the day-of timeline, caterer logistics, limo questions, and other random topics. When taking our engagement and wedding day photos, Cody was there before we were and dressed exactly as he said he would be (one of our interview questions). Cody also attended our reception dinner and rehearsal so he could become familiar with our ceremony location. How amazing! Cody was able to form relationships with members of our families which corresponded over to the next day's ceremony events. Cody seemed to be everywhere taking pictures, but he was never in the way of anything. We received both our engagement photos and ceremony photos extremely quickly and we could not be happier with how they turned out. Again, we cannot say enough great things about Cody.

We booked Cody for our June 2018 wedding and are incredibly happy with how everything turned out. Cody is a genuinely good guy who has a passion for his work. He has a demeanor that works well in the stressful world of weddings. He’s always cool and calm, regardless of what comes up. I also cannot stress enough the value Cody provides. His prices are extremely reasonable, and he’s there for every moment of the wedding day. We spent a lot of time looking for a photographer, and none came close to providing the value Cody does. Both our engagement and wedding photos turned out great! They have a unique feel to them that captured all of the important moments, big and small. Cody went above and beyond on the wedding day to ensure things turned out great. From simple pointers at various times, to actually moving a van that was in the way, he did it all. He was quick to get the key shots, but was never “in the way” whatsoever. He also had the eye to pull us aside for a few minutes at just the right time during the reception for pictures that turned out to be some of our favorites. I would highly recommend Cody for anyone looking for a wedding photographer!

When he first reached out to us, I was extremely surprised. His attitude was great, and his beliefs about photography and the business were exceptional. Originally, we were only going to go to Cody for our engagement pictures, as we had other wedding plans. The engagement pictures and photoshoot were superb. He made us feel comfortable in a typically uncomfortable situation. Not only did he shoot great shots, but he came up to Ames to shoot on campus. His pricing for engagement pictures, by themselves, was perfect. When we decided to have our wedding in Iowa instead of Wisconsin, we spoke with Cody about doing our pictures for the ceremony. Cody rolled the price of engagement pictures into the wedding price, and was flexible in our needs. He was willing to make the drive, even for the morning ceremony (sorry Cody!). He arrived at 6:30 a.m. for our 10:00 a.m. ceremony, in order to prep for the wedding. The dedication shown by Cody was extremely important to my wife and I. Throughout the day, he was there in all the right moments, but surprisingly discrete in his work. When we needed direction (the formal shots) he was there to point us in the right direction. At lunch, he sat with us and joined right in on the conversation, which was very welcome. As he stated in the beginning, he doesn't see us so much as clients, but as friends, and it certainly felt that way! We had a very intimate wedding, and a non-typical reception of boating on the lake. He braved the rocking dock to get our departure on the boat, which we also appreciated. The turn around time of the touched up images is also something I'm extremely impressed with. My brother's photographer took several months to get them completed. Cody stands by his word when he says he will get them back to you quickly (engagement pictures that week, wedding ones are this weekend). All in all, we would suggest him to absolutely anybody. Cody surpassed all my expectations of a photographer. He provided my wife and I with great images of our special day(s), and captured the essence of my wife and I's relationship. Our wedding went perfectly and Cody's professionalism, personality, and commitment to providing us with memories definitely added to that feeling of a perfect day.

Cody Kilgore exceeded my fiancé and I's expectations for our engagement pictures. He was very thorough and took his time to get any special shots that we asked for. He did not limit our time and was open to go to different locations without any extra charge. The cherry on top is that he delivered beautiful digitally edited pictures within 5 days of our session.
