My husband and I were engaged January 30th, 2024 and were married May 18th, 2024. We had our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception for about 110 people at the Blackwall Barn & Lodge in Gambrills, MD. We worked closely with their event planner/coordinator, Allison, who was absolutely amazing! I would love to take all the credit for being able to plan such a beautiful wedding in just 3 ½ months, but I can’t, I really owe so much of that credit to Allison. The wedding industry is already outrageously overpriced, but what we spent here was more than reasonable. This place is a hidden gem. Our friends and family are still raving about it. Everything was absolutely perfect! The Event Planner & Staff (AMAZING) From the first email, Allison was responsive, providing all the necessary details on availability, packages, pricing, etc. She met with us multiple times to customize and refine our proposal, discussing every detail from color schemes to the wedding timeline. Being familiar with the space, Allison offered valuable advice on photo spots, floor plans, and more. She was honest, transparent, and incredibly accommodating, making everything work for us. She balanced professionalism with a personal touch, genuinely caring about making our day perfect. Allison also served as our day-of coordinator, and we additionally hired LoKel Weddings & Events one month out because our wedding had a lot of moving parts and we knew we would need more hands. These ladies worked seamlessly together, taking so much stress off our plate. Customer service is crucial to us, and Allison’s staff was incredible. They were engaging, attentive, and went above and beyond. One bartender even brought us drinks on the dance floor at last call so we wouldn't have to stop dancing to go get drinks. The Space (BEAUTIFUL) The Cottage: A private room with a bathroom used for getting ready. Spacious enough for our 15 people, it also served as a retreat after the ceremony and a place to store our belongings. Ceremony Space: A stunning outdoor area with large trees, a green lawn, and a brick aisle leading to a white arch. Easy to transform based on your style. Barn: A versatile, neutral space with chandeliers and string lights, rustic tables, and chairs. Our décor was mostly white and green, but other color schemes also look great. Patio: Open, but covered and attached to the barn, it has a full bar, cocktail tables, comfortable seating, a fireplace, and fire pit tables. It rained on our wedding day, but the patio’s setup kept our guests comfortable. We had an acoustic set during the cocktail hour, which our guests loved. The Food & Drinks (DELICIOUS) Blackwall Barn and Lodge is a full-service bar and restaurant with a dedicated kitchen for events. We ordered plenty of food, and it was all fantastic. Hors d'oeuvres/Grazing Table: We had five passed apps and a grazing table. The tuna, lamb, and veggie spring rolls were crowd favorites. Entrées: We chose family style, which added intimacy and enhanced the dining experience. Guests with dietary restrictions had their meals separately plated and served. Late Night Snack: Soft pretzels and sliders were a hit, with cute displays both of which they refilled as they were removed. Also very tasty. Signature Cocktails & Open Bar: Customizable bar packages with plenty of alcohol and mixers. We had our own signature cocktails and the venue accommodated special requests. 10/10! Highly recommend!

While my husband and I did not have our ceremony + reception with the Blackwall Barn and Lodge- we did have our rehearsal dinner in their secluded room (across the hall from their barn space!) We could not have selected a better venue to have an intimate dinner with our friends and loved ones the night before our big day. The servers worked efficiently and were great to work with- and we even had access to the aux to play our own music! Highly recommend their family style dinner, and will rave about them to everyone we know!!!

We had our wedding on May 6th. The Blackwall Barn and Lodge is a beautiful venue, the food and atmosphere are incredible. Our guests raved about the bar service and everyone had an amazing time. The only hiccups we had was uncertainty on all of our cake to be cut (totally our fault), and we did notice that their employees were in a rush to clean up so a few candles were tossed and we believe a few cards were tossed as well. We had a few family members who had seen this happen as far as decor getting tossed. Other then that, Christina is a gem and so easy to work with and I felt so at ease with all of the coordination. You need minimal decor for this place and they do dinner service promptly! I would 100% recommend this place as a venue for a wedding of 140 guests if you want dinner, drinks, and dancing!

We had our Wedding Ceremony & Reception at the Blackwall Barn & Lodge, December of 2022. Christina + team at the lodge ensured our day went perfectly, our guests loved the food and the staff was helpful the entire day. From the time we booked to our wedding day, Christina went above and beyond to help organize and execute efforts for our food tasting, rehearsal, and multiple visits to the venue. I would definitely recommend this venue. There are multiple rooms to accommodate to the wedding size of your choice. While touring this venue I saw the different rooms offered. They are ALL absolutely beautiful. Side note- this was recently renovated from the ground up about a year ago and EVERYTHING is BRAND NEW. The event coordinator, Corrine, was amazing. She was quick to get in touch with me and made everything clear and simple. She was extremely friendly as well. Since we had a smaller guest count, we chose one of the smaller rooms. The tables were arranged in a way that still allowed a space for dancing. All of the decorations, table settings, and food + drinks were included in the price. We did have a hiccup with the sound system at first (fault of our own), but one of the employees came to the rescue and helped us out! A++++ for service. There was a TV in the room we reserved that could show a slideshow. However, the PowerPoint slideshow I made wouldn't show up. Never figured that one out. But hey- it wasn't the end of the world. Every single worker there from the bar tenders, to the servers, to the behind-the-scenes staff, went above any beyond. The food was AMAZIN and they even let us take home our leftovers! The walls are thick enough that we couldn't even hear the wedding in the room next to us either! And even though there are multiple rooms hosting different events, the set up of this place really makes you feel like you and your guests are the only ones there. I don't have a single complaint about this place. You will not regret booking this!

Blackwall impressed us more than we could imagine! Not only is the venue unbelievably beautiful with everything you need right there, but ALL the staff was extremely friendly and jumping at the chance to help out!! Corinne was our coordinator and she was the absolute best. She was always so fast to respond to my emails and was there all day with us. She impressed our bridal party and family with her professional and friendly attitude and attention to detail. We couldn’t have done it without her! Thank you Blackwall!!

Engaged 2/19/18 | Wedding 9/21/19 | Guests: 118 Ceremony: Baltimore, MD | Reception: Gambrills, MD After getting engaged, I started truly wedding planning Summer 2018. My husband and I were stationed in Germany and came home for a visit. We probably visited over 20 venues in MD & PA without finding “the one”. A few weeks later one of my bridesmaids let me know that they were opening a new reception venue in Gambrills, MD. After speaking to Lara (events coordinator) she was able to send me the renderings and keeping me posted on when they would start booking wedding receptions. My parents visited the venue October 1, 2018 and we submitted our deposit a few weeks later without even seeing it in person! Lara had excellent communication skills despite my 6 hour time difference. She always kept me up to date and was able to accommodate face to face meetings when we were able to fly back to the US. We had our tasting and the food was absolutely delicious from Chef Joe & team! During this time Lara let us know that she would be out on maternity leave but her assistant Corrine would be handling our event. Corrine was absolutely excellent and was able to work with us while we in the final weeks of planning. Corrine & the BWBL staff really gelled well with my other vendors hired to make the reception set up and the event run seamlessly. The Cottage room (aka the war room) was a safe haven for me to privately talk to vendors, take a breath and even use the bathroom away from the hustle of the reception. The Barn (reception area) looked absolutely BEAUTIFUL and set up exactly to my vision. We arrived at 4PM to take Portrait photos out back before the cocktail hour/guest arrival started at 5PM.They went above and beyond with the service from the moment our guests started to arrive. My guests were raving about how beautiful the venue, how delicious the food was and how the drinks were FLOWING all night. Our wedding reception was absolutely perfect. A HUGE thank you to Carlos, Corrine, Lara, Chef Neal, Chef Joe and the entire BWBL staff who staffed our reception, we truly couldn’t thank you enough for all that you’ve done for us. ***review cross posted***
