Set up a tour date with them after months of being in contact. I knew that Carol would be OUT OF TOWN the day of but not all her staff!!! My fiancé called the Guest Services phone number when we arrived and the gentleman told him "Just drive around and call me back if you have any questions". I was not happy with his response so I got Carol on the phone with me. She didn't know who I was, why I was there, and couldn't discuss all the details over the phone with me. Carol claimed that her computer died that all the scheduling was on it with the pricings as well. I drove hours out of my way to visit this place and it was a HUGE LET DOWN. It was the only venue that required a $75 payment, and we saw 4 venues. The property looked run down. Lastly, if they cannot handle a venue tour there is NO WAY I am going to let them handle my big day. I am extremely upset with how UNPROFESSIONAL this all was handled. This happening made our choice from 4 venues to 3 really quick. My advice is don't look at this place as a wedding venue. Maybe the B&B side is a little better managed.
My hubby and I had an elopement package scheduled for this past weekend. We booked about three months in advance and the ceremony was to take place on April 16th. Carol, the owner, was PHENOMENAL in answering all of my questions before arrival and working with me on the schedule since there was rain. We were able to move the ceremony to Friday just a day before our arrival.
On entering the ranch, you can immediately sense that it is sacred ground and just felt prayed over. Immediate serenity.
The weather all day and night Friday was perfect and the ceremony was so private and special. We chose to say our vowels under the approximately 200+ year old live oak tree by enchanted lake. The tree is breathtaking and you can tell Carol has truly taken her time and put her heart into officiating the ceremony. The entire grounds is absolutely beautiful and drenched in divine southern chic appeal. Not at all hokey.
We stayed at the Mystic Woods Cabin. It was amazing! It completely won me over by the detail and quaint charm with modern touches that make this the perfect retreat. Completely secluded in a tree line with serious curb appeal, polished off with an impressive back deck with a path that leads to a private hot tub and outdoor shower. Raining? No problem, the two person Jacuzzi will more than suffice in its own spacious back room with windows across the entire room to remind you are nestled in the trees. The historic aspect thrills me as I've always loved Texas history. If I understood the adorable journal left on the electric fireplace correctly, the cabin was owned by a confederate writer who used to be partial owner of the property. In the cabin is his writing niche that traveled with him through the war.
We quickly learned that Skeeter, the photogapher, is actually much more than that for the ranch. He was a hoot and a lot of fun to get to know. His hospitality was that of family. After he did our pictures, we went to Carol's for dinner. This was definitely a highlight! What a hidden gem! Again, the detail is what makes the place so much fun and impressive. Clearly the craftsmanship of an artist. The food was delicious and our cake was so pretty! The dinner also included a bottle of champagne, two Blisswood glasses, and the wedding cake & cutlery that is all part of the elopement package.
Don't forget to pack your fishing poles, the place is great for brim and bass fishing. I'm sure there are catfish too, we just got caught in rain and had to leave before we really felt it out.
Other than fishing, we didn't even partake in the different activities the ranch offers because we were to busy relaxing and enjoying cooking for ourselves. The kitchen is completely furnished. You may just pack foil, and tupperware.
I'd give this place ten stars if I could, we can't wait to come back for our anniversary!
