My grandfather drove the same Lincoln Towncar from my earliest memories to when he had to give up driving. Every time I see a Towncar on the road, my eyes well up and I remember my grandfather's voice, his smell, and the feel of the light blue leather under my legs. Blue like a blue jay.
My first classic car was a 1971 Mercedes Benz 280. Dark green outside and in. My son called it, simply, 'Gween'. A perfect mash-up of 'green' and 'queen.' I think of my son's first years when I think about that car.
Cars have that ability, don't they: to transport, in the literal and figurative sense.
