BM Hair & Makeup Design

crambling for someone a month before our wedding. I was referred to BM Hair by another vendor. I spoke to Brittany over the phone and we talked through logistics, number of services, and pricing. I did the same thing with nearly a dozen stylists.  Brittany sent pricing on the Knot and the I texted her directly to go over services and those fees. We spoke over the phone and she seemed great, so I asked for a contract. She said she would get it to me that evening, but didn't send it until the following evening. As with most brides, things got busy so I took about 48 hours to review and sign, but I did sign and sent the agreement back. After sending the signed contract, I received an email stating that the contract I signed was outdated - Brittany had mistakenly sent the wrong paperwork. She also provided a total in that email that was 10% over what I calculated from the paperwork and included a travel fee for any travel over 30 miles from her zip code. I replied and explained that the additional 10% is a bit over our budget so I may need to choose another vendor or remove one of my services and asked for clarification about the travel fee because the hotel we're getting ready at is only 25 miles from the zip code she provided and her contract stated that travel fees apply to anything over 30 miles. I did accidentally type in 50 miles instead of 30, but it was a typo and either way, the distance still didn't warrant a fee from what I could tell. I received a reply the following morning telling me that her travel fee applies to 30 miles and that I was looking at an outdated contract, but either way, she reviewed our texts and messages and had decided "she would not be providing services for our wedding". She never sent the updated contract, so I couldn't get clarity. I was quite surprised and wrote back explaining that I wasn't trying to be rude or difficult, but was just trying to understand the paperwork I was signing and asking for clarification. I completely acknowledged that I didn't remember the exact per-service pricing she had given via the knot - I spoke with 11 different vendors and eventually, as any bride can tell you, it's impossible to remember what each individual vendor quoted off the top of your head. I was calculating totals based on a contract the vendor sent, so my expectation is that a vendor that sent incorrect pricing be understanding if the person hiring them is confused or looking for clarity on higher totals.  I personally work in sales and have been structuring and sending pricing and contracts for 20 years. Mistakes happen, but when I have made them, I take responsibility. When I send incorrect pricing information, I then. take time provide clarification because the confusion is the result of my mistake, not the client's, and, at my company, which is a Fortune 100 business, we honor pricing once we've put it in writing, even when it's lower than what we discussed. I certainly didn't expect to be given the lower price she sent, but a little understanding, patience and empathy is something everyone should receive when working with a vendor that makes a mistake.  Her attitude was very much "you're lucky you're getting my services" and I would strongly recommend that any bride consider that before hiring this woman.
