Bovella's Pastry Shoppe

Bovella's was the partner bakery for the caterer I chose; I didn't do any shopping around or comparing, I got what I got. Pros: The end cake result tasted very good and everyone enjoyed it. The flavors and design was an okay approximation of what I requested. Cons: It was very difficult to establish contact with the Bakery and my Caterer didn't offer much help. It was very much the case of old school mom & pop + poor business skills, a personal pain point for me. When I requested samples, I was met with surprise that I would want to taste cake before ordering and I was then presented with a take home pile of cake scraps (although some say this is common). When prepared to order, I again ran into issues with communicating and gaining confirmation. Because of my catering "package", I had limited options for the cake design. But I selected something simple (white background, mix of metallic gold and lilac swirls with a navy ribbon). Couple days before the wedding, I call to confirm and he can't find the order for a solid 5 minutes, but then finally confirm. Wedding day: delivered and no issue. From a distance, the cake looks fine. Up close, it looks like I pipped on bumpy swirls in standard bold purple and yellow colors (no metallic gold), and the seams of the ribbon were frayed with loose threads. Taste: Taste was fine - it's cake. I had 3 tiers, all white cake, 2 tiers with chocolate raspberry mousse filling and one layer with vanilla raspberry mousse filling (due to someone with a chocolate allergy). The mousse is supposed to be a whipped combination of their chocolate mousse and raspberry jam. Instead, each tier of the cake had both vanilla and chocolate, with a giant solid lump of raspberry in the middle, and almost no mixed mousse in the cake. End result: It was cake and it tasted good and no one noticed. It was dark and no one could clearly see the design. Dealing with the Bakery was irritating and inefficient. Overall, it affected no one but me that spent hours looking through inspiration and constructing a design to have it botched at the end.

The team at Bovella's made the most amazing cake for our wedding. They listened to all of our requests and not only did it look fantastic, but it tasted fantastic as well! The cake looked stunning in photos and you could tell all the extra detail and effort they put into their work. Not to mention, after following their instructions for preserving and freezing the top tier, the cake actually tasted just as amazing on our first anniversary! Highly recommend - they are the best!

Bovella's Pastry Shoppe did a phenomenal job on our wedding cake and groom's cake!! Both were PERFECT! We wanted a naked cake decorated with flowers and a Dallas Cowboy Groom's cake! It was a tall order to fill and they met the mark. Their staff is wonderful! We will definitely recommend them in the future!

Our wedding venue uses this bakery for their cakes, so we were a bit worried about not choosing a bakery on our own but figured it was one less thing to worry about and we just went with it and we are SO GLAD that we did! Our cake tasting was fantastic, professional, and while everything tasted perfect we made a clear choice with a white cake, with lemon filling and vanilla custard. We chose a fondant cake with blush ruffles on the bottom layer, quilted on one layer with pearls and the top layer plain. I could not have imagined how wonderful it would turn out. The cake was perfect, absolutely stunning and it tasted FANTASTIC! I have always heard how fondant can taste funny and mess up a cake but it was necessary for the design we wanted but we had no issues. Fondant and all, it was so delicious! Would recommend this bakery 100%.

Our wedding venue works closely with Bovella's so we used them for our cake. The tasting was fun and very laid back. The decorator was open to our design ideas and the finished product was beautiful and delicious! Definitely recommend them.

Our wedding cake on February 6, 2016 was the best cake either of us have ever had. It was elegant, tasty, and beautifully decorated. Bovellas did exactly what we asked for our cake!! Even though it wasn't an option given to us at the tasting. Funfetti with lemon filling and vanilla icing. AMAZING.

Bovella's has made my cake for every event since my christening, so I knew they'd be making my wedding cake too. They never disappoint. It was an Italian rum cake with extra rum, decorated traditionally all in white as I wanted (they can do trendy too), with our own Royal Doulton figurine on top. We didn't save the top layer (who wants stale frozen cake?) - instead Bovella's promised us a free small cake on the house on our first anniversary! We also ordered trays of Italian cookies to put on every table, so that our guests would have something to nibble during the hours between entree and cake.

We used Bovella's because that is who Clarks Landing uses for their cakes. Everyone at Bovella's was so nice. We went there for the cake tasting and it was so hard to choose because everything was so delicious! We picked our flavors and showed them a picture of the cake we wanted. The cake came out beautiful and it was delicious!

Our wedding cake was divine and looked adorable. We worked with Bobby, and he made the tasting so much fun. And oh my goodness there was so much cake and frosting and filling to try! The whole process was a breeze--Bovella's has a contract with our venue (The Grand Summit).

Our cake from Bovella's was included with our reception package with The Berkeley Plaza. I am so very happy it was. Even though I grew up in Union, I had never heard of Bovella's before. We went there one night to check it out and as soon as I walked in I knew this place was heaven. Growing up Italian, the amazing smells of the cookies and cakes made me feel like a little kid. We did a tasting with Bobby, who was our cake baker and decorated and he is just such a sweet man and so incredibly talented. Our cake was not only delicious but so beautiful. And Bobby did everything he could to make sure it was exactly what I wanted. He even texted me the day before the wedding (after asking if I would be okay with that, which I really appreciated) to make sure that he the right idea of what I wanted my cake to look like and confirm he had all of the items I dropped off (ribbon, pearl brooch, etc). Also, on top of the cake, they provided pastries for the table at the reception and every single one of them were amazing and soooooo delicious. Amazing old school family bakery. I definitely recommend.

Never before had choosing a cake for a wedding been so simple and so satisfying! Bouvella was the perfect choice. My parents had tried their cakes before and liked them - light, airy, perfect for a summer wedding. Ralph graciously arranged two tastings- one for my family and another one for me (when I was visiting from west coast). Hard to choose among the many delicious and creative flavors... Ultimately went with Ralph's seasoned suggestions and did a red velvet layer, vanilla w fruit preserves and chocolate with hazelnut layer. Day of the wedding cake looked stunning and was beautifully decorated. By the way, priced cannot be beat- this was the most reasonable rate in north central Nj.

Our cake was included with our reception. We were skeptical at first because we had never heard of the bakery (it is located about 2 hours away from the reception vendor). We drove to the bakery to do the cake tasting and we were not disappointed. The bakery itself is lovely and enticing. I would recommend going to a cake tasting just to see the bakery and town. We had a good time. The staff was very nice and very accommodating and they designed the cake very close to what I wanted....I was pretty particular and had brought in a few pictures. The cake itself was delicious and we had loads of compliments...many frequent wedding go-ers said it was the best cake they've had. We had vanilla cake with chocolate buttercream and raspberry filling with vanilla buttercream icing. Simply amazing....not too sweet, just perfect.

Our reception venue, Clark's Landing Yacht Club in Delran, includes a wedding cake from Bovella's as part of the overall reception package. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed taking a trip out to Bovella's to sample all of the cake and filling options. We sat with Bovella's wedding cake baker and he explained to us the entire process. He allowed us to design our own cake, including the exterior, colors, cake flavors and filling. The entire process was so easy and enjoyable. Bovella's delivered our cake the day of our wedding and handled all set up. Bovella's also provided two additional small cakes for my husband and I to take home the night of our wedding: a small cake for the two of us to eat immediately following the reception (night-of, but we ended up enjoying it the night between our reception and honeymoon) and a small Bride & Groom cake to freeze for our anniversary. The cake tasted amazing and everyone raved about it!

I have a severe dairy allergy and had a hard time finding a cake! Bovellas was my savior! The cake looked beautiful and tasted amazing!

Our cake was included in the package with our vendor, Clarks Landing in Delran, NJ. We moved to California a few months before the wedding and had to plan the rest of our logistics three hours away in another time zone. Because they're up in Westfield, and our venue and home base in NJ was down in South Jersey, it was easy to forget about all the cake logistics. However, Ralph at Bovella's was extremely understanding and accommodating - they sent a tasting plate down to the venue one weekend when we were back in NJ, which was much closer to us than the bakery. They took our (east coast) late night calls when we forgot about the time difference, and checked with us multiple times to make sure everything was perfect. We sent over several different pictures of cakes that we liked, and what we liked about them, and trusted the rest to Bovella's. With all the last minute details we had to take care of, everything else about the cake sort of slipped our mind once we got back to NJ. When we saw the cake on our wedding day, it was more beautiful than we could have even imagined. It had three different flavored fillings, and everyone was raving about how delicious it was. Our cake was included in our wedding package through The Westwood, and was provided by Bovella's. At the tasting we were rovided with a plate containing each type of filling and frosting. Some were an extra cost from what is built into the package. We went with chocolate cake, white butter cream and chocolate fudge, an extra charge. In terms of decoration, we had white fondant, an extra charge, 3 round tiers with blue ribbon at the bottom of each tier, and piped silver icing double hearts throughout and silver beads underneath each ribbon. It was absolutely beautiful, coordinated with our colors perfectly, and most important, was delicious!

Clarks Landing Yacht Club in Delran, NJ sent us to Bovella's and I was very pleased to get exactly the cake I wanted based on a picture. We also had a delicious cake tasting - so many flavors! I only wish I could have taken home the leftovers from the wedding!

My cake was simply gorgeous. it was white and royal blue to match my dress, and they had made it exactly the way I showed from a picture. I had chocolate, lemon, and cheesecake on different tiers and each tasted great

Bovella's created the most beautiful, delicious wedding cake!! I was thrilled that they were able to design exactly what I had been looking for for my wedding. All I did was give them a picture, and they made it happen. Our wedding cake was vanilla with cream cheese, raspberry and cannoli filling. YUM!! We all really enjoyed it! I'd highly recommend the bakery for any other needs as well. They have delicious pies and cookies too!

As our cake was contracted through our caterer, we were skeptical of how good it would actually be. However when we did our tasting at Bovella's, we were absolutely blown away. All cakes are made from scratch, using natural fresh ingredients which is apparent in the taste. There were many excellent flavors to mix and match, we had quite the time deciding! We chose to do a chocolate and vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream and cream cheese filling. Out of all the food we had that night, people are still raving about how excellent the cake was! It was so good that we had no leftovers out of the three tiered cake. I'm definitely ordering a replica for our anniversary as my husband and I only had a small piece! Thanks to Ralph and the team at Bovella's for such an excellent cake!

Many of our guests loved the cake. We were given options as to how to decorate the cake and I had to purchase the rhinestone ribbon to give it extra glamour. I gave the initial requested amount and then was told more ribbon was needed so I supplied twice as much as was needed just in case. Of course, they kept the additional unused ribbon even though I requested that it be returned to me afterwards. I specifically wrote this message as well on all the packaging and ziplock bags as well. The Westwood gave them an additional order cancelling our original cake order so in the end we received the wrong cake. It was fresh and beautiful, but just not what we ordered. My husband does not eat strawberry and I don't eat banana. However, we got a cake of strawberry and banana.

They really out did themselves. Everyone loved the cake, The baker understood my vision and did it perfectly! The cost of the cake was included in my package at the Berkeley Plaza.

Bovellas is the bakery (optionally) contracted with our venue and we are glad we used them. They were willing to schedule a weekend tasting (which they normally don't do) and were able to make a cake identical to the picture we had sent them. Oue cake was DELICIOUS!

Bovella's was the preferred vendor of our reception venue - Twin Brooks Country Club in Watchung. However, they were a pleasure to collaborate with a we wanted something a bit more personalized than the stock cake options in their picture book. They listened and I think they captured exactly what we wanted for our cake decoration. And the cake was delicious!!

The ladies of La Belle are amazing! I went there for my dress, all of my bridal party dresses, my Mom's, and my Grandmother's dress! Every single dress that came out of that shop was beautiful! I would recommend going here for any occasion as I will be going back there for my next special occasion that I have.

Our venue offered a cake from them, but we were not happy with the selection. We went to bovellas and they offered a discount for using a venue that works with them, and his cake was beautiful. I told him exactly what I wanted and he made it better. What was better, I wanted an surprise grooms cake, but it had to be ice cream cake. I had to buy the cake from another place but Ralph happily put a design on. All I said was blue and orange knicks jersey. He blew me away when I saw it (and my husband) it was not just a jersey but basketballs and color scheme. He made my vision beautiful. I can't even describe how delicious their pastries and cakes are. They have a store front so just go in an buy it if you're not sure of their quality.

Bovella's Pastry Shoppe of Westfield, NJ was incredible. They were extremely professional and efficient with there services. They had delivered and worked with my reception hall before and there reputation held true. Our cake was breath taking. It was exactly what my husband and I wanted and it was incredibly delicious. Our guests are still raving about the cake!! It was a white and chocolate cake with canoli frosting! (yes, we are italian). But regardless it was a perfect blend of flavors. For our design we wanted a simple scroll with some ribbon as a liner around the three tiers however we wanted it to be done with real frosting not the trendy sugar coating they put on these days. And Bovella's was sure to meet each of our request and made a stunning looking cake with regular frosting!! I knew once we placed our cake order we were in good hands. I never had to check on them to see how things were going because the communicated the process to us on our first visit. I highly suggest using them if you can!!

I had thought I would go with a bakery I loved instead of the one the hotel caterer used. Turned out it was too far to deliver. The other nearby bakery was just overpriced and the frosting gritty. The wedding was at The Grand Summit and this turned out to be the bakery they would have used anyway! It was so good the groom and I decided to eat our top piece when we got back from our honeymoon and order a small one for our anniversary! We did not go for a very fancy design so have no comment on their ability to do "stunt cakes" but they made a beautiful white on white design and we used flowers on top. It photographed like a dream and tasted GREAT!

The cake was both delicious and beautiful. We had black and white cake layers, with chocolate and vanilla custard inside, whipped cream icing. YUM!! We went for a cake tasting before, and they did everything we asked! It was wonderful!

Our wedding cake was outstanding! We didn't really want a cake b/c wedding cakes are so often dry and lack flavor, but the venue provided a Bovellas cake with the package. So, we accepted the idea and went for the tasting. The tasting bites were not very good, so we told our guests to save their room for the venue's desserts rather than wedding cake. HOWEVER, the cake tasted AND looked amazing! The actual wedding cake was full of flavor, moist and delicious. Family and friends raved about it, and we enjoyed every bit of the leftovers (aside from the slice for our anniversary). I would definitely get a Bovella's wedding cake again.

Bovella's cake was included with my venue. The taste was great, everyone loved it. But i wasn't crazy about the way it was decorated- it kind of looked amateur. Also, they forgot to use one of the fillings I asked for! Either way, the cake looked alright and tasted very good. They were also nice to work with.

So we ordered our cake through Bovella's and the cake was not what we ordered! It was just a plain cake with no design and we were supposed to have flowers on top wrapping around the cake and there was nothing!! just cake! so upsetting! the cake tasted good but was not pretty to look at! One of my bridesmaids actually pulled flowers from my throw away bouquet to put on the cake just to livin it up some

Delicious! Ralph was great to work with, friendly, flexible, and quick. We showed up for our appointment. He handed us a binder of all the cakes they do, a tasting plate, and left us alone to discuss and decide what we wanted. Yummy! Careful though, I got a bit of a bellyache from eating so much frosting. We were able to piece together elements from a couple of the cakes in the binder to create our own. We had black and white cake layers, cannoli (spelling?) cream filling and whipped cream icing. Did I mention how good the cake tasted? Our guests raved about it too.

Since I had my wedding at Flanders Valley, the cake is included and comes from Bovella's. We first met at the shop to discuss what we wanted and sampled the cakes, fillings, and toppings. They were delicious. We went with the the cannoli filling. The day of, we couldn't believe how well our cake turned out. It was beautiful! Everything we wanted for our fall themed wedding!

Hands down... a delicious wedding cake! In fact, we had a piece of our cake top before our one year.... just in case it ended up going bad! :)

This bakery works with my vendor, so I did not have a choice but to use them. They wrote the incorrect initials on my cake. Not helpful at all during the process of picking the cake either. They were far so could not go in and hard to get in touch with.

I brought in a picture of my invitation to replicate for our cake. It was amazing how perfect it looked, and even better, how great it tasted. It was absolutely perfect, Ralph is a genius, highly recommend!

Bovella's did a great job with our wedding cake. It turned out exactly how we wanted and was delicious! We got white cake with chocolate and strawberry mousse. Everyone LOVED it! They were very helpful and even sent sample cakes down to us in South Jersey since they're a lot farther north. They even gave us an extra anniversary cake. Very nice to work with.

I ordered a three tier, square wedding cake with cannoli filling and whipped cream icing. The cake looked gorgeous, and Bovella's did a wonderful job matching the picture and description that I provided. The taste of the cake, however, left something to be desired. In general, most wedding cakes are not the best tasting desserts, but this was particularly sub-par. Maybe it was an off-day for the bakery (I have never ordered from here before), but if it had not been included with my package from my reception site, I would not have ordered from this location.

Ralph did a spectacular job on the cake completely blowing my expectation of how great it would come out. Not only was it DELICIOUS (lets face it, sometimes wedding cakes are not that good), it was a work of art. I came in with a photo of something that I liked in a magazine and he did an even better job. Definitely worth the fee - thank you Ralph and Bovella Bakery!

Though our wedding cake from Bovellas was absolutely delicious, I was a little bit disappointed in the monogram on the cake. The design itself on the cake was beautiful, as was the taste, but the monogram of our first initials and last name looked like it was not professionally done. That was the only thing I was disappointed in.

Delicious cake but they did not decorate it as I instructed. I'm not the kind of bride to let some icing ruin my day so I just went with it but am a bit disappointed...

We got married a month ago and when I found out the cake was coming from Bovella's I was excited. I loved the cake. I had a few special (non-traditional) requests for the cake and they met the requests and went above and beyond.

Beautiful Cake!!! Wonderful to deal with and lots of choices to choose from! I was unsure what I wanted my cake to look like, but Bobby helped make my wedding cake better than I could have imagined myself!!!

Bovella's provided our cake through the Berkeley Plaza. When Diane, our Maitre D, showed us the cake book, I quickly flipped through and informed her that I didn't like any of the designs. Shocked that a bride would go through the book so quickly, Diane asked if there was anything I liked about any of the cakes. After looking through, I "Frankestein"-ed a cake out of bits and pieces I liked from the others, not knowing how it would turn out. On the day of my wedding, I arrived to find my cake in the reception room. The cake took my breath away! It wasn't as I imagined, but better. All the little elements came together to become a beautiful cake. It was also very delicious to boot!

I loved my wedding cake. Bovellas made sure it was just right! We chose the vanilla w/ strawberry on on layer, then chocolate w/ raspberry alternating. I couldn't tell you which tier was better. Fandant on the outside matched to my wedding theme was beautiful. They also have wonderful pastries to take home :-)

We went to Bovella's because the cake is good there. We ordered a three tier buttercream cake and asked if they wanted the cake topper and fresh flowers delivered the day before. THEY instructed us to leave them at the venue so the cake would look as fresh as possible. On the wedding day, they left the cake and told the venue that they didn't know what to do with the cake top and flowers so they wouldn't do ANYTHING! I had to put my own cake together in front of all my guests in my wedding dress!!! When we confronted the owner RALPH, the guy actually said we were overreacting and that it's not that big a deal! He told me i'm upset over nothing and I should just drop it already! He insulted me and then yelled at my husband! All we wanted to achieve was a refund in our delivery charge and he treated us like garbage! WE WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANYTHING THERE AGAIN! Of all the business owners i've ever dealt with, i've never had one be so classless and money hungry in my life! What a waste! In the end the cake was a little dry and the buttercream exterior was NOT that nice!

I have lived in Westfield and shopped at Bovella's for 20 years. Our venue (TwinBrooks) includes a wedding cake from Bovella's, so I thought the cake would be the easy part of the planning, overall everything about the cake was incorrect. I went to Bovella's and spoke with Ralph and his staff a number of times, as I also ordered and paid extra for a grooms cake. Which to there credit was spot on and correctly made. Though the wedding cake, I provided a picture with specific notes, a off white/cream color cake with chocolate scrolling and chocolate cake with the 3 fillings that we choose during the tasting. Well I arrive at the reception, family pictures taken in the room and there is the cake a antique color, chocolate scolling cake, 'Whose cake is that"???? At that point to the day/night we call know there is nothing that you can do or really care. We cut the cake, chocolate ok atlease it is chocolate inside, I look around the room and see vanilla one filling, not sure what is going on. We take home the top tier, vanilla cake and chocolate mouse filling. Well that is not my wedding cake I ordered waited 20years to get married for, where is my chocolate cake with the 3 fillings I ordered??

My reception hall used this bakery so we didn't really have a choice. The cake was gorgeous and delicious. We got a three tiered square cake with the tiers criss crossed. The inside was vanilla and chocolate. It was really good.

Our wedding cake was included in the package for the venue we chose (The Berkeley Plaza in Berkeley Heights, NJ)...however, they were just as good as if we walked in there w/ no connections to order our cake. The baker in charge (I forget his name)...but he was very nice & took the suggestions we had for the design of our cake very well! Not only that, but the feedback we received about how GOOD the cake was in neverending (everyone said it was moist, not overly-sweet...just great all around)!! FYI - we had a vanilla cake with fresh raspberry & raspberry mousse filling...all I can say is MMM, MMM, MMMMM!!!

The cake was simply delicious. It was fresh and tasted amazing. I got tons of compliments on the cake and it was included in my package at my venue.

Our cake looked beautiful. I did not get to eat too much, but what I did taste was excellent. The tasting beforehand was very helpful as well.
