About this vendor
The Brazilian Room derives its name from its rich hardwood paneling (Jacaranda, Imbuya, Brazilian Chestnut and Mahogany) that was once part of the 1939 Golden Gate International Exhibition’s Brazilian Pavilion on Treasure Island in the San Francisco Bay that showcased the commerce and culture of the country of Brazil. When the exposition ended, the Brazil Building was presented to the newly formed East Bay Regional Park District (established 1934) as a gift of friendship from the Brazilian government.

Amazing venue! My sister was married here a couple years ago and we loved the natural wood, hillside setting, and overall historic nature of the building. Absolutely beautiful.
A gem of a wedding venue!
We're wedding florists (Flowers Valley) and we had a fantastic experience working in the Brazilian Room. The staff is attentive and helpful, making the setup process seamless. The venue’s ambiance adds an extra touch of elegance to any event. Highly recommend!
We couldn't have picked a better venue for our September wedding & reception. Our views were phenomenal, the indoor space was elegant without being stuffy, and even in a light fog the pictures came out looking great. We feel very lucky to have found a space on a weekend nine months out, so book early!
Beautiful and affordable venue!
We had the most perfect, magical wedding day at the Brazilian Room. It was affordable for what we wanted, and just magical. The views were absolutely spectacular, and all of our guests commented on how gorgeous the venue was. We picked our caterer from the Brazilian Room's list of approved caterer and had a fantastic experience with them (Classic Culinaire), and everything went perfectly on the day of the wedding. We loved it!
This venue is absolutely beautiful! Even though it rained on our wedding day and we had to have our ceremony inside, the room still was a the perfect setting. The room speaks for itself and is only made more beautiful with simple uplighting and flowers. Our guests were impressed by the venue and everyone felt it was absolutely perfect and cozy! Plus, we LOVED the price we paid for rental, as we got married during the week! Thank you Brazialian Room for great memories!
I've photographed hundreds of weddings and Berkeley Brazilian Room is my FAVORITE. The backdrop is amazing!!! You hardly have to do any more decorating because the venue is already so gorgeous. And it's isolated so it feels private and intimate.

The most perfect venue! We stumbled across the Brazil room and instantly fell in love. Not only is it in a beautiful and romantic location, but the money you pay will go to the parks department which is fantastic. We could not have picked a better place to get married and we know that our guests loved our location as well. It was easy to book, didn't break the bank, and everything was just as we imagined. Really had a wonderful time there!
The Brazilian Room is a BEAUTIFUL venue. If you live in the bay area and are looking for a conveniently located venue that's also affordable with indoor/outdoor settings, look no further! My husband and I got married at the Brazilian Room in May 2018 and absolutely loved it. With 120 guests, it was the PERFECT size and never felt too big or too small. We rented the venue from 5p-midnight and had our ceremony on the patio at 6:30p, the lighting was gorgeous! The large lawn and view of the trees and hills in Tilden Regional Park were absolutely gorgeous. It was very chilly the evening of our wedding (May in the bay area...) and we had to have all of our guests be indoors for cocktail hour instead of the patio but it totally worked out because the building is spacious and the aesthetics (glass windows, wooden ceiling & beams, large fireplace) are just beautiful. You have to go with one of their recommended caterers but ultimately this turned out to be a good thing since they know the venue so well. We hired Serves You Right Catering and they did a great job, as did Quantum Party Productions for our DJ/lighting and Amy Carr Photography for our photography. Finding the venue can be a little tricky and cell service was limited but we gave people maps/directions via our website and had the phone number of a taxi company that we had confirmed would pick up there available for guests. It was really nice being out of, while also not far from, the city. Highly recommend the Brazilian Room.
This venue was so amazing and exactly what I had dreamed of in a wedding venue. We had a day time brunch wedding and the venue has stunning views for a day time wedding! We were able to have the ceremony outside and the reception inside with an outdoor "cocktail" hour. One of the big selling points for me was this venue is located in an East Bay Regional Park so not only is it gorgeous but you are supporting a great institution.
A big plus for future brides considering this venue is it comes with tables and chairs for 150. I did not want to hassle with renting these so was thankful they came with the venue. They also have extras you can rent from them such as a speaker and microphone for toasts.
The only downside to this venue I can see is that they want you to use one of their preferred caterers. There are 3 different vendor nights where you can try out all the caterers they work with which is very helpful. We picked Red Door catering and could not have been happier with a local Oakland caterer. They made chicken and waffles for our day time brunch wedding! You can pick your own photographers, musicians, officiants, wedding planners, and other vendors. Having caterers that knew the venue so well and had worked so many weddings there ended up being very helpful in the end. They even helped to set up all of our decorations!
The staff at this venue were so helpful throughout the entire planning process. They let my father come up multiple times to test the audio system and plan out where everything would be set up the month before the wedding.
I would recommend this venue to all couples that want a beautiful setting to wow their guests that will not break the bank.
We had our wedding here in August and it was amazing! The views were spectacular and the perfect backdrop for the ceremony. It felt like being in the mountains while being only 15 minutes from civilization. Loved it!!!
We just got married here and it was perfect! The high ceilings inside, the beautiful patio outside, the incredible view...
It seems very clean and well-kept.
We got married in a Wednesday which made a huge price difference.
Since this is a state park location there is a lot of restrictions but nothing so bad to keep us from choosing this place.
All our guests loved it!
We got a deal by renting this place during the day on a Monday. We had people coming in from out of town that were going to stay for an entire week anyway, so it worked out great. Beautiful, amazing place to take photos. We loved it!
This place is amazing. It's perfect in size it's quant and the view is spectacular . What I love is that there are windows on both sides from floor to ceiling and hardwood floors and beams and a huge fireplace. Price is right too !
You can meet different vendors on Tuesdays
Pretty venue, we just didn't want our guests to have to drive down to Berkeley after drinking!
This place is amazing for the price!
The Brazilian Room is a beautiful location. There is plenty of space for 100 guests, a live 5 piece band, buffet, and photo booth. We did not need a lot to decorate the location because the view is beautiful. It was easy to book because of a cancelation on Labor Day. We received the full deposit back.
Gorgeous location in Tilden Park! The venue is the perfect spot for our wedding as it fits all our criteria. Concrete patio (no heels sinking into grass) and a beautiful view makes it ideal for us to hold an outdoor ceremony. On-site kitchen allows the food to be prepared fresh by the caterer. Tables and chairs are provided, so there is no need to rent them from other places. Rustic building gives our indoor reception a cozy vibe and floor-to-ceiling windows let our guests enjoy the view outside without freezing in the chilly evening air. The venue is beautiful as it is, so there is minimal need for decorations which equate to more savings! Southwest passage leading up to the venue can be windy, so charter a bus to transport guests if possible or advise them to take the 24 highway to Fish Ranch Road for the back road up to the Brazilian Room. Like other reviewers mentioned, this place tends to book up very quickly. We also noticed that for weekend weddings, you have to book the venue for the whole day or commit to either the 7-hours day or evening slots. Because we held a Thursday wedding, we were able to reserve the place for 8 hours which was just enough time for us to hold a short ceremony and a reception. Having a 7-hour slot may be a bit of a time crunch, as setup and cleanup can take at least 2.5 hours, leaving you with 4.5 hours for your actual event.
My guest raved about the venue. It was gorgeous. The staff was very helpful and easy to work with.
Very beautiful, private venue!
We had received so many compliments on the location, and how beautiful everything was.
The individual who helped us book the room was very helpful, and a great resource!
Anyone planning a wedding in the Bay Area can contest to how difficult it is to find a venue that is affordable and breathtaking at the same time. Brazilian room satisfied both of those criteria. It is located in the middle of the Tilden Park surrounded by natural beauty perfect for an intimate wedding.
There are 2 drawbacks: you would really need to plan early since it does get booked up super early. Also they do have lots of rules you'd need to follow, it is a park after all (on the bright side, the caterer knows all about it so they would make sure everyone can enjoy the wedding and none of the rules are broken)
Beautiful hiddden treasure. Afordable and perfect for the bride dreaming if a garden wedding.
It is always gorgeous every time I come here and it was perfect on our wedding day. However, I didn't like how I had to provide my own equipment for the sideshow and music. And their catering policy is strict...otherwise, excellent place!
This venue is gorgeous. The backdrop of the trees for an outdoor wedding is breathtaking. We were so lucky to have a beautiful day in June! If you book this venue, you must book over a year in advance for a weekend. We got the last weekend day in the Summer of 2012 and I booked in May 2011 and it had to be a Sunday. There are a list of caterers you must go with so the price of going through the parks districts is somewhat deceptive because the catering is not cheap. We went with AG Ferarri because I wanted Italian. The only real issue I had other than that is that it is treaterous getting up there and I was worried about people drinking and driving but it all worked out. 3 stars for service because it's a park district so little help from them. However, your caterer gets the keys and takes over the day. Another plus, pay $75 extra and plug in your laptop or ipod to their sound system and save on a dj. This worked out great for us because we had less than 70 people and almost no dancers.
Pros:
-reasonable price
-gorgeous and unique location
-good outdoor and indoor spaces at the same location
-natural setting but accessible
-very photogenic
Cons:
-limited caterer options
-popular so need to reserve far (>1 year) in advance for popular dates
-limited occupancy (small to medium size events)
-some beuracratic paperwork to deal with
Would book again in a heartbeat.
This was perfect for us! Having the patio was wonderful as it allowed guests to move outside and cool off without feeling like they were leaving the party. The background is amazing of course.
Reservations are in 12 hour blocks and the facility allowed us to drop off drinks even before the caterer arrived. Very accomodating.
Easily the best reception site in the East Bay.
The Brazilian Room in Tilden Park is an absolutely beautiful place to get married. Although there was a lot of paperwork, it was all pretty straight forward. Only drawback of this location is that it books up fast. If you want your choice of dates and times, best to book a year in advance.
My husband and I chose to get married at the Brazilian Room first for the unbeatable price and second for the gorgeous, peaceful setting.
We were on a really tight budget, so we got married on a Thursday evening. The setting for our outdoor ceremony was serene and lovely. For the reception, the inside of the building was cozy and cute.
The Brazilian Room in Tilden Park was as wonderful as we heard it would be. The natural beauty was stunning, the price was reasonable, and the parks staff were always helpful. I had been worried about the restrooms being small, but it turned out to not be an issue at all. We had a Sunday brunch reception and everything went so smoothly that I couldn't believe it.
Beautiful venue. All in one. Outside wedding ceremony with a beautiful room for the reception.
One down fall is there is no AC - however, we lucked out and didn't need it.
Beautiful site and they were very accommodating of our needs. We originally planned an outdoor wedding at another site and were going to have our reception here; then it actually RAINED on our JUNE wedding! Made for some great photos and memories, but we had to change our venue at the last minute and had the ceremony indoors at the Brazil Room and they were very helpful.
They were always available on the phone and communicated well all the requirements and restrictions, of which there were quite a few. However, all were very reasonable and the setting was stunning even with few other decorations.
I personally loved that they have a list of approved caterers that you need to use. It narrowed down my choices and made my selection much easier. Greatly decreased stress and I knew I had a caterer that was very familiar with the setting and knew what was feasible to do for the space. However, if you have your heart set on another caterer not on the list I can see that this may not be the best choice.
Overall, the day was fantastic and beautiful, all my guests had a wonderful time, and I would choose this site again if I had to do it all over.
The East Bay Regional Park District offers a reasonable price and all costs and services are listed up front. The venue is gorgeous. Weekend weddings require the use of one of their approved caterers, but we found this to help things run smoothly, since they were so familiar with the venue. We fell in love with the place when we saw it, and love it still!
I am using the Brazilian building for my wedding next year and I am very pleased with their services. The gentleman I spoke with on the phone, Todd, (while trying to make reservations and choose my date) was patient and extremely knowledgeable.
The venue itself is gorgeous. Make your reservations early, Saturday nights go quick and Friday nights/Saturday days go surprisingly quick as well! At first I wasn't crazy about the catering restriction (you choose from a preferred list) but now I understand why they have it. Those caterers have worked at the Brazilian Room for years and know the ins and outs of that space.
I'm really excited about my upcoming wedding, the Brazilian room is absolutely stunning!
We recently had our wedding at the Brazilian Room, and we are very happy we did! It's very reasonably priced, especially for the bay area (7 hours for about $2,400, or less if you're a resident of the county). The setting is gorgeous, as you can see from the pictures, but go see it in person; it's even better! The building itself is really cool and makes for some great pictures. It's the perfect size for about 12 round 5' tables (you could squeeze 10 people to a table, but 8 or 9 is more comfortable). We had about 100 guests and it was perfect with plenty of room for a dance floor. We initially thought we were going to have more people, and the caterer let us know that 14 tables wouldn't allow for much of a dance floor, so keep that in mind.
The only issue is that they have a million rules (some important, some silly) and they are completely inflexible. One of my vendors needed a bit of extra time to setup the sound system for the live music during the ceremony, so I asked if she could come in between 4:30 and 4:45 if I paid for an extra hour (my reservation started at 5:00 and the morning event there ends at 3:00, with clean-up completed by 4:00, so it seemed reasonable). They said no, and though I offered to pay for an extra hour they said they only allow an extra hour to be purchased after the morning ceremony, but not before an evening ceremony. I politely asked the reason (or at least I hope I was polite; I was a bit stressed at the moment) and they really couldn't tell me. So while some rules make sense, they seem to have some rules just for the sake of having rules. Silly Brazilian Room. My vendor ended up showing up early anyway and started setting up on the patio, which was allowed because that's public space. :) If you're really worried about having enough time, you can always rent the space for the entire day (the cost is about $4800 in that case).
While a few things were a bit annoying, they were very friendly, and it certainly didn't ruin the overall experience. Also, I just found out I will be receiving my full deposit back, so that's not something you'll need to worry about. This is a great venue with amazing scenery for pictures. Everyone really enjoyed the space. I highly recommend it!
Could not have picked a better venue for our wedding! The Brazilian Room was PERFECT in every aspect- visually stunning, roomy but not too large, lovely views, and plenty of FREE guest parking. We looked at almost 2 dozen venues and most definitely made the right decision. The East Bay Parks staff was helpful, friendly and PROMPTLY responded to my questions and concerns. Excellent value and one of the best locations in the San Franisco Bay Area!
The Brazilian Room is absolutely beautiful. We visited the site many times for wedding fairs and in consideration for our wedding, but didn't end up choosing the location because it was a tad small. They do numerous weddings here, so they really have it down, and it's really affordable compared to other locations.
The Brazil Room is a wonderful place to get married and have a reception. Beautiful location and the building itself is so charming! The flagstone courtyard outside is great for pictures with a backdrop of Tilden Parks green hills and trees! There is a kitchen there so the caterer will cook the food on site rather than re-warming pre-cooked food!Overall if your wedding is under 150 people this is a great choice!;150 people or less! My wedding was only 80 people which left lots of space for tables and dancing but I wouldn't want to cram more than 100 people if you still want room to dance.
The Brazilian Room is lovely and private. Could not imagine having our reception (and ceremony) anywhere else! Breathtaking backdrop of the trees in the Berkeley hills for our ceremony and pictures. Also, The actual room was enough room for 80 people to sit and eat and dance around!
Beautiful place (inside and out). Great price.;It can get very cold and foggy up in the hills. The road to the venue is rather steep and windy and is very dark at night. Lots of rules and restrictions. Book in advance!
The location was perfect: right outside the city but you would never know it...it was so green and beautiful, tranquil. The ceremony was set outside with a beautiful backdrop of mountains and the reception was inside and old elegant building.;It's a little difficult to get plus there are winding roads. I hired shuttles from the hotel and that alleviated the concern for drunk driving...just in case.
The view from the building was spectacular. The large glass windows looked out over the grassy hillside let in plenty of sunlight during the reception and made a beautiful backdrop for photos. I prefer the daytime slot because you could see the beautiful trees and flowers and the streets are a little narrow and windy which makes nighttime driving a little scary for nervous drivers. Our wedding was during the Fall so we didn't have to worry too much about the sun during the outdoor ceremony. If it was during the summer I would probably rent some umbrellas for the ceremony and post-ceremony cocktail hour. Everyone I talked to about the facility was pleasant and very helpful.;There are several restrictions and forms that you must sign in order to rent the place but you can still have a beautiful wedding.
The view is amazing the pictures reflected that amazingly! The room is bright and inviting with vaulted celings and a fireplace. It's inviting and cozy. The view driving up of the bay is unreal. The flagstone patio for the ceremony was so nice.;Parking is limited. There are other parking spots when the little one in front fills up but your guests will be walking a tad. There is really no place for the bride to get ready other than the restroom. And they have forms for everything!
it was beautiful. reception cerimony and pictures all in the same place. moutians in the background. lots of beautiful flowers and plants. building is bautiful as well
Our reception venue was located in Tilden Park, Berkeley, CA. The area is lush, green and lovely. The site, The Brazilian Room, features high wood beamed ceilings and abuts a vibrant green lawn perfect for photos and flower girl, ring bearer, usher races. The venue lends itself to the addition of personal touches, we added a hoopa to our festiities.;With regard to warning about the site, I would only say that during the daylight hours, the ambient lighting is beautiful and sufficient. However, if the couple in question chooses an evening celebration, please note that the area is very dark, with very few outside lights. This being the case it would be necessary for those planning the event to provide additonal lighting.
