Bridal By SHL is a wedding gown boutique and design studio located in Kearney, MO. This team strives to give each soon-to-be-wed a careful, attentive shopping experience. From your first consultation to your last fitting, they will make sure you have a gown that makes you look and feel beautiful from the inside out. Owner and designer Liz has always loved art and discovered her love for bridal attire during a college internship. After earning her Bachelor's Degree in 2015, she opened her own fashion line in 2020. The name Bridal By SHL comes from the initials for Liz's fashion line, Single Handedly Liz, which recognizes how her disability never stopped her from honing her creative talent. She and her boutique manager Lexi now work diligently to help soon-to-be-weds discover their dream attire. Bridal By SHL will begin with an in-house appointment, where their stylist will help you find your dream gown. They will then schedule alterations and fittings to ensure your dress looks and feels its best. Wedding party dresses and fully-custom creations are also available to give you and your entourage a one-of-a-kind look.

I cannot recommend SHL more. Liz and her team had their work cut out for them on my dress. I am much bigger in the lower part than the upper part of my body, so my dress had to be ordered probably 3 sizes bigger in the chest. I then lost a sign...

ificant amount of weight requiring Liz and her team to take in my dress in the lower half quite a bit more. I was also very adamant that I feel super secure in the chest area that included adding quite a few pads and what not. Liz and her team PERFORMED. My dress fit like a GLOVE. It was the perfect amount of tight in the hips and secure on the chest. I was able to sit and dance and do everything I needed to do very comfortably. It also doesn't help that I was gone for a significant amount of time during the alterations period, but Liz worked her magic, and the dress was ready and perfect with several weeks to spare. The pricing for the alterations was also extremely good. Liz also made it clear that she will make sure I love the dress before I take it home and she was true to her word!

route, and turns out it was actually cheaper to go to custom route that it was to buy a dress off the rack and then alter it the way I want. Liz worked with me for almost a year before my wedding to design it and made it exactly how I wanted to have the dress fit! I have more of an athletic build, and wanted the straps to be more up on my shoulders, like a sports bra, compared to most of the dresses that are on the outside part of your shoulders , but I also still wanted a deep V-neck in the front and the back to show off my back, Liz did just this! She was absolutely perfect and I never had any hesitation with working with her. She also let me pick out all of the fabrics and every little detail that went into my dress, but I did ask her for her creative style as well on some things, because I am not the most knowledgeable when it comes to fashion , I have grown to become great friends with Liz and cannot thank her enough for being able to be real with me throughout this whole process and also to be a calming person to have on my side.

AMAZING to finally be in my dress and taking it home but so sad to not have a for sure reason to come back! Liz and team are more than I could have ever asked for. They were helpful, down to earth, kind, you name it. If you need a dress or anything just go. You won’t regret it, I promise. (Will add photos after the wedding)

Meet the Team

Liz Scarpino

Owner

I have always had a love for art. As a young kid, I was always drawing, or creating something with my hand(s). I decided I wanted to make a career out creating. In college I interned at Dornink, a bridal design studio where I started falling in love with the world of bridal design. I received a BS in Apparel Merchandising and Design from Iowa State University in 2015. I opened Single Handedly Liz in May 2020. Since then, I have been working full time as an alterations specialist and custom apparel designer. When I'm not at my shop, you can find me curled up with my dachshunds and a good book.
