We chose Stepne Manor for the venue for our wedding, and we could not be more glad that we did. Natalie, the property manager, was so communicative and professional. She allowed us to visit several times to walk through with vendors and plan our details of the day. Having the venue for the weekend was so convenient as our entire wedding party was able to stay and we had peace of mind knowing we could organize and set up as early as we needed to. We chose to host both the rehearsal dinner and the reception on the property. We were able to get ready in the house and there is enough floors and rooms that the bridesmaids and groomsman had their own separate areas. It was an incredible atmosphere for a summer wedding. There is so much space and potential for any kind of wedding you want! We were able to have lawn games during our cocktail hour, a place for our guests to sleep who were unable to drive home, and it is so far from the road that your event has complete privacy. I wish we could do it all over again! I cannot say enough good things about this place. All of the guests could not stop talking about how cool, historic, and accommodating this venue is! Can't wait to host more events here. Thanks, Natalie!
We made the best decision by having our wedding at Brittland. We selected this venue because of the natural beauty and stunning views. We also loved the idea of spending the whole weekend on the property to enjoy more time with family and friends throughout our wedding weekend. We are thrilled and blessed to have had the opportunity to have our wedding at Brittland. Our immediate family and bridal party was able to stay at the manor house and river lodge with us the entire weekend, and everyone was so comfortable. We truly made Brittland our second home! Natalie was so helpful throughout the entire planning process up to the very day of our wedding. We cannot thank her enough! Another plus is there is a caretaker close by that is quick to respond with anything that you may need. Thank you Natalie and everyone who helped us have an incredible weekend! We hope to have the opportunity to stay at Brittland again in the future!
We had our wedding at Brittland Manor and we absolutely loved it. The location was stunning with beautiful views of the river and surrounding farm. The long road leading to the manor transports you away from the everyday world to your private wedding oasis. Being able to spend a weekend on the property gave us plenty of time to relax and prepare before our big day. Having family and the bridal party be able to stay onsite made it feel like a destination wedding where we had time to get settled instead of just a venue that churns out 3 weddings a weekend.
The manor itself is expansive and has all the character and charm you would expect from a old mansion. Everything is well maintained and we didn't have any issues with the property or rooms. The River lodge was a great place for me to crash with my groomsmen and get ready while staying apart from the pre-wife until she became the wife.
Natalie was wonderful throughout the entire process and kept us on track in making sure we had all of our vendors and documentation prepped. She was always punctual for all of our meetings and very responsive, answering all of our questions (even when we were asking the same question several times).
We had such a great time we're already dreaming of throwing a future anniversary party there. It really exceeded all of our expectations and we highly recommend it.
We cannot say enough about how absolutely incredible Brittland Manor is! We were so fortunate to celebrate all of our wedding festivities there- the rehearsal dinner on Friday, the ceremony/reception on Saturday and the post-wedding brunch on Sunday. Brittland Manor & the River Lodge were big enough to house our immediate families and bridal party + significant others, which made it SO fun to spend the entire weekend together! We made so many special memories that we will cherish for a lifetime. The property is absolutely breathtaking and the views overlooking the Chester River are stunning! We got married on a gorgeous fall day in October and to watch the sunset during our cocktail hour and dance under the stars in the beautiful white tent was just magical. Our guests were just as blown away and are still talking about how incredible Brittland Manor is! We cannot finish this review without mentioning Natalie, who was an absolute joy and pleasure to work with! She was SO accommodating and willing to assist with whatever we needed. She was super flexible with how we wanted to set-up for the events and once she knew we were situated after arriving, she gave us our privacy, but was available if we had any questions! We highly recommend Brittland Manor and if you choose to book this venue, you will not regret it! :)
loved this venue!
We had our wedding at Brittland on June 9, 2018. We absolutely loved it, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a wedding weekend experience.
We loved that we were able to have 30 of our friends and family stay with us on the property. Additionally, we chose Brittland because we could host the rehearsal / welcome bbq and a farewell brunch both on site.
Natalie the Property Manager was great to work with. She answered all our questions, and allowed us to visit several times prior to the event.
Brittland Estate is nothing short of absolutely breath-taking! From start to finish, we had an incredible experience working with the vendors and planning our wedding.
Our guests are still raving about how it was one of the most beautiful and FUN weddings they have ever been to. We took a steamboat cruise that picked us up from the Brittland dock. We hosted a Welcome BBQ Dinner Party by the water. We hosted a White + Gold Pool party a game day. We had a church ceremony and followed with a STUNNING tented reception next to the Manor. The options to host different parties and the ability to get creative is endless. It is extremely rare to have this optionality all on one property!
My only advise would be to book hotel blocks and airbnb in advance since transportation and accommodations can be difficult. It is a popular wedding destination location!
Other than that, I would recommend Brittland Estate to everyone! A truly magical place to celebrate your marriage.
A++
Brittland was the PERFECT venue for our wedding. I know I'm biased as the bride, but it was truly outstanding. We had always envisioned an outdoor wedding with the ceremony on the water and a tented reception. We wanted our wedding to be a weekend event with all of our closest friends and family staying together or as close as possible. We visited a few different venues on the Eastern Shore, but ultimately saved the best for last. The moment we arrived at Brittland Manor we both knew it was the one, it had everything we wanted – water views, outdoor cocktail hour and reception space, the ability to fit both of our immediate families and all of the bridal party in the main house and river lodge, and not to mention the grounds were beautiful. It was exactly what we had dreamed of. We hosted all our events on site from the rehearsal dinner by the River Lodge, ceremony on the grass by the water, cocktail hour by the pool and garden, and the reception on the brick patio behind the Manor house. It was truly the most beautiful setting for a wedding. All of our guests were blown away by the venue.
We can’t thank Natalie and Rusty enough! Natalie was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. She let us get in the house a day earlier so we could get settled and set everything up before the bridal party began arriving Friday morning. The house has everything you could need – linens, towels, large coffee maker, and lots and lots of room. Rusty takes amazing care of the grounds – the gardens and lawns were impeccable. Having your wedding at Brittland is more than just an event, it's a one-of-a-kind full weekend experience. We can’t recommend it enough!
The Brittland was a perfect, perfect venue for our wedding. The setting is gorgeous and elegant. The spacious houses were comfortable for our immediate family and wedding party, who stayed on the property with us for the weekend; we felt like we were home (just a classier, more beautiful version). We loved being isolated enough that we didn't have to worry about loud, late-night guests throwing inpromptu dance parties or BBQs. Also, the nearby Chestertown accommodations and restaurants made for a lovely weekend away for guests who couldn't stay on the property. Last but not least, Natalie was responsive, helpful, and timely in her communications. She went above and beyond to coordinate with vendors and family alike, to ensure we had what we needed for the weekend. I couldn't imagine a better experience.
Best wedding venue I have ever been too! I know I'm biased being the bride, but it was truly outstanding. The house was perfect. We were able to fit both of our immediate families and all of the bridal party in the main house and river lodge! It was such a fun weekend. Perfect house to host your events. We had a pool party on Friday before rehearsal dinner, Saturday we had the ceremony in the garden followed by the reception, and then had a brunch on Sunday. We had an after party down by the river lodge that was unbelievable. Our friends still can't stop talking about it (5 months later). We were so fortunate with the weather, but even if it had rained, the house could easily open up and connect to the tent and been such a beautiful setting! The décor was great -- the feeling of old estate was just what we wanted. I'm sure we will have friends and family members check out our venue for their big days!
We also loved how accommodating Natalie was the entire weekend! She was so helpful. All linens and towels being provided were a huge help. She was able to answer all questions ahead of time. Plenty of outdoor lighting was key for the evening events as well. Such a perfect house, for an even more perfect day!
They have several properties, We stayed at Running Fox. We saw this place and after seeing it immediately wanted it. It is so beautiful! It's a 3-day/2-night rental and that can be extended for $500. We ended up doing that because we need 4 days. Everything was beautiful and our wedding photos were great!
*Just remember, this is just a property with a house. When we did our wedding there everything needed to be brought in. This was great for us because we wanted to have a unique wedding. They give you a list of vendors in the area but we ended up not using any of them and it was tough finding vendors that fit our budget especially because we live four hrs away from Chestertown in NYC.
Natalie showed us the property and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the whole thing. Just remember to keep her number handy. The power went out on the day of the wedding while we were getting ready (!) and we had to call her to fix it. Also bring bug spray if your wedding goes into the night. Our early August one did and some of our guests got eaten alive!
I recently got married at Brittland Estates in June of 2015. I cannot say enough about their wonderful and professional the management team! Besides the management, the venue is gorgeous! The grounds are exceptionally well kept, the setting is stunning, and the amenities are top-notch. The property has everything you could possibly want - from a pool, to a dock with boat access, fully stocked butlers kitchen, sophisticated libraries and antique dens, to swings and games for kids!
Having your wedding at Brittland is more than just an event, it's a one-of-a-kind full weekend experience for your family and friends!
I'll start with the good:
I would highly recommend seeing it in person. The reason being, when we looked up the manor house online the pictures online didn't do it justice. To be honest it was our least favorite choice from all the locations we saw online.
From the very first moment my mom and I arrived at Brittland to see it in person we new it was the perfect place for an outdoor wedding.
The view from the back of the manor house is simply breathtaking. I got married in October and the fall colors of the landscape were perfect for my rustic wedding. My photos were amazing with the fall scenery.
Between the manor house and river lodge we were able to fit 30 people. I had 7 bridesmaids and my husband had 8 groomsman. Between both houses we had immediate family and bridal party with significant others.
If you want a breath taking outdoor wedding your guests will talk about for years to come, Brittland is the place.
Now for the not so good things:
Just recently Brittland put in the rental contract that you have to rent all items from Eastern Shore Tents and Events. The agent we were working with at Brittland did not mention this detail. Yes, we should have really gone over the contract before we signed but unfortunately we missed that fine print. You have to rent all tents, tables, chairs, linens, dishes, dance floor, lights, etc from Eastern Shore Tents and Events. They have some really nice stuff at Eastern Shore but if you have a specific look in mind they might not have everything you're looking for.
The other issue was the price of Brittland. I had a friend get married there only one year before I got married there and the cost for her to rent the property was about $8,000 verses the $13,500 we paid. I know this because we had the same wedding planner and when we told her our cost to rent the property she was shocked. I don't know how often they raise the price but for that much of an increase in a year is a bit ridiculous.
All in all I had an amazing wedding there and I would absolutely recommend it if it's within your budget. Just read the contract with a fine toothed comb and visit Eastern Shore Tent and Events to view the rental options before you sign the dotted line.
We had our early October wedding at Stepne Manor. I couldn't have asked for a better set up. Natalie was so accommodating and lovely to work with. The house is beautiful and so are the grounds. Everything lent itself perfectly to my image of an old plantation romantic soiree. Our bridal party had such a wonderful time spending the whole weekend in the house together and we were even able to host a Sunday brunch there the following morning. All around wonderful!
The most BEAUTIFUL setting ever for a wedding. It could not have been a more perfect place to get married. All of the guests were blown away by the venue. The brick patio for the reception was perfect. Would not have done it any other way!!
The location was beautiful and had the perfect ambiance for a romantic summer wedding.
What a wonderful week-end! Having both places allowed us to have a different feel for the rehersal dinner at the Lodge vs the wedding day ceremony, cocktails & dinner at the Manor. Also, the Lodge is where the groomsmen all stayed. The Manor was so comfortable, spacious and allowed us to relax and spend time with family & friends. On the wedding day, none of us had to go anywhere. The vendors came to us for make-up and hair. No having to coordinate appointments, cars to transport the bridal party etc. It was so very convenient. There was lots of space for the bridemaids to spread out. Brittland was very clean & had more than enough supplies for all of us from towels, sheets, dishes, etc. We wished we had booked for a couple of extra days before and after the wedding.
Brittland Manor is a beautiful old estate on the Eastern shore of Maryland along the banks of the Chester River. When I drove onto the property, down the 1 mile long driveway, I knew this was the place I wanted to have my wedding. The setting is private, serene, calming, and just gorgeous. The grounds are well cared for and the flowers are always blooming.
The site is rented for a weekend (3 days & 2 nights) and when we arrived the morning before our wedding we didn't have to leave until the afternoon following our wedding. There was something so nice about unpacking and not having to get in my car again. My entire family, wedding party, and some of my now husband's family was able to stay on property, as it sleeps 38 people, so it was a weekend family affair/reunion. Everyone got to know each other better and it made the celebration that much more fun :)
Everyone told me before I got married that the wedding goes too quickly...but by making the entire 3 days a celebration, with friends and family stopping in for some pool time the day before the wedding and then for brunch the day after the wedding, we had more than just the 6 hour wedding. It was a lot of quality time with the people that mean the most to us. We were able to have the rehearsal dinner on-site as well as the ceremony and reception.
We played corn hole & croquet pool side and enjoyed a privately led sunrise yoga session the morning of the wedding on the river's edge. It is an enjoyable and relaxing piece of property and renting a golf cart, made it fun to get around the 500+ acres.
Brittland Manor was the perfect wedding and reception venue and truly made our BIG day & weekend one of the greatest of our lives!
My husband and I fell in love with this place as soon as we laid eyes on it. It had everything we wanted. It was right on the water with a beautiful open space for a tent with old trees and flowers scattered about. This venue was a gorgeous canvas in which to make our wedding. I loved how we had the place for the whole weekend. No rushing to put decorations up. We slept at the lodge the night before and after, which alleviated a lot of stress. I wouldn't have wanted any other place. That being said, we could have done without the broken glass strewn all over our ceremony site (we had a lot of small children coming who would be running around) and had to spend a couple hours picking it up. There was a rusty old razor blade in the toilet and the shower drain didn't work very well. Other than that though, it was perfect and I highly recommend it!!!
It was great to work with Natalie and Brittland Estates. They were easy to work with and highly prepared. They have well maintained properties that are well stocked. Brittland Manor provided the perfect location for the wedding ceremony and reception. It has beautiful views of the Chester River (really those views made me speechless). Our rehearsal dinner was held at The Riverlodge (another Brittland Estates property) which is perfect for smaller events (and is within walking distance from the Brittland Manor- it also sits on the chester river). Brittland Estates have wonderful wedding locations!
Originally, I was wanting to get married in a barn. That's my style. But, I stumbled across Brittland Manor online, paid a visit and the rest is history. It was the BEST setting for the wedding. Ofcourse, the weather played a HUGE part, but if it had done the unspeakable [rained], we would have certainly been able to keep everyone dry; having the tent and the house. It was so neat to have my immediate family and my husband's immediate family all stay there in the house from Friday to Sunday, while my husband and his friends stayed down at the River Lodge. It couldn't have been more perfect. Natalie was wonderful and incredibly helpful. Our weekend was ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. Thank you Brittland Manor!
My husband and I had looked at mulitple locations before making the decision to see all of the Brittland Estates properties. All of them are beautiful, but when driving down the path to Brittland manor, we knew it was it! We had our bridal parties and families stay with us at the Brittland Manor house and the River Lodge (which accommodated everyone comfortably) and we all enjoyed the entire property all weekend. Everyone raved about how beautiful it was and how perfect of a place it was for a wedding. It literally takes my breath away every time I go there! We will continue to visit for years to come and can't speak highly enough of how amazing it is. It truly is a hidden gem!
After weeks of research on a Rustic Outdoor wedding venue - Brittland Estates (Running Fox Farm and Stepne Manor) was a hidden gem! Natalie was AWESOME and so helpful to work with. The venue itself was gorgeous and made my wedding day perfect! GREAT rustic venue!
The Brittland Manor and River house properties provided a beautiful setting for our wedding. We had a spectacular riverside ceremony followed by festive celebration that lasted well into the night. The band was able to play at full volume without disturbing anyone, including an infant asleep inside the manor. We were also able to invite all of our friends and family without concerns about a headcount limit. All of the Brittland representatives were very helpful and a joy to work with, especially Natalie and the property's caretaker. Most of the local vendors are familiar with the property which simplified the task of coordination.
Several of our guests were so impressed with Brittland that they expressed interest in holding thier upcoming weddings in the same location. Considering all the benefits of holding an event at Brittland, we feel that it was a great value.
Brittland Estates was just perfect. I was having a hard time finding a place that I loved, and I knew as soon as I set foot on the property that this was where I was getting married. It was so nice to have the the wedding party able to stay all together on site. It was wonderful to only have to walk a few steps from the ceremony site to the reception. The location is absolutely beautiful. Natalie was so helpful, and always there to answer any questions we had. Really we just had the perfect wedding at Brittland Estates!
Celebrating our marriage at Brittland Estates was an amazing experience! Not only was our day like a fairy tale but the weekend was magical. With the ability for our wedding party and our immediate family to stay with us the whole weekend, gave everyone a new sense of "family bond". We laughed, cried, and grew closer as a family.
However, the best part was that no one came around to "kick you out" and forced you to leave. My husband and I looked at many places before we settled on Brittland and there was a time limit to 10 o'clock and after 10:30 they would charge you for over-time. That did not sit well with us, stressing about the time and how to politely to ask our guests to leave was certainly not going to be on our radar the night of our wedding. Because we had our wedding at Brittland this was not a stress, and our wedding ended naturally (at 4:30 in the morning)!
Natalie was great to work with! She responded to our questions and concerns quickly. She also saved a lost pillow and blanket that was left after our wedding. She was very accommodating with scheduling for tours. With my parents from New Jersey we needed multiple tours to make sure that everyone experienced the beauty of Brittland.
My husband, my family, friends, and I are so grateful that we were able to have our wedding at the most magical place on the Eastern Shore. You know you are in a good place when the famous Sultana sails down the river during cocktail hour!
Brittland Estates was absolutley incredible!! Natalie and team made the entire experience absolutley perfect. I rented out the main house for the entire weekend during May. The entire wedding party including parents stayed at the house. Everything was perfectly landscapped, perfectly placed and incredible. We were married out in the garden and held our cocktail hour by the pool with floating candles and peonies. Our reception was of course held under a giant tent on the patio and the entire evening was spectular. Because the house sits on hundreds of acres, we were able to continue the celebration into the early hours of the next day! Our families spent quality time together cooking breakfast and simply hanging out. It was perfect and I believe this was an ideal venue for our wedding.
My fiancé and I looked at approximately 30 ceremony and reception sites. We were looking for an affordable waterfront location with the sun setting over the water, which is somewhat hard to find in Maryland. The River Lodge fit this description perfectly. The cost to rent the lodge for the weekend and hold an event there was cheaper than any other option we looked into, and the view from either the little beach or dock is breathtaking. Our biggest problem in choosing The River Lodge was its availability. Although we would have preferred a September date, we ended up getting married in late October because this was one of the only openings left. There was an issue with the heat in the lodge upon our arrival the day before the wedding, but Natalie had the caretaker and a professional fix it within two hours. She also called later in the day to ensure that we were not experiencing further problems, but we appreciated that she otherwise left us alone. Our wedding took place near the little beach facing the river. The cocktail hour was near the grove of trees, and the reception was in a tent in the clearing near the electrical box. The only problem we experienced was the black walnuts on the ground. We removed them from the ceremony area and from underneath the tent, but one stained the bottom of my dress while we were taking pictures underneath the trees.
I had my summer 2010 wedding at Brittland Estates and it couldn't have been more perfect. We booked Brittland Manor and the River Lodge for 3 days so that our whole family could come and stay for a "weeding weekend," not just one day. The amount we spent to have 15 bedrooms for 3 days/2 nights PLUS the ceremony and reception all in one place, was half the price of a 4 hour ballroom rental in downtown Washington, DC. We saved a fortune and it was the most beautiful of the 15+ places we looked at.
The best part about it for us was that we could have a relaxing weekend on 300 acres and didn't have to worry about sharing the space with other guests, like you would at a hotel reception. We held our ceremony and reception outside in the garden. We stood under a beautiful large tree with our guests facing the river and scenery behind us.
Natalie, the rental manager, was helpful but not too intrusive. She gave us all the information we needed without overwhelming or pressuring us into add-on's.
Another perk - the town of Chestertown, MD is adorable and less than 5 minutes from Brittland Manor. We sent people in for lunch and shopping and everyone had a great time in this quaint town.
I cannot imagine a more perfect venue for a wedding. Because Brittland Manor is rented for the entire weekend, our full bridal party, along with immediate family, stayed in the 11 bedrooms from Friday morning until 5 pm on Sunday. (My college friends rented the adjoining River Lodge for the weekend.) The pool was perfect for the kids during the day, and it became a pool party for the adults in the evenings. More than any other wedding venue, Brittland Manor allows to you spend time with your guests and actually enjoy your own wedding.
The kitchen is made for hosting large events, and the caterer was thrilled. We held a crab feast rehearsal dinner on site on Friday night, and the wedding (with crab cakes, local vegetables, and a traditional Smith Island cake) on Saturday. Guests who stayed in the manor sent us a check in the amount that they would have paid to stay in a hotel, which offset the venue costs for me. When considering that the Brittland contract covers a rehearsal dinner venue, wedding venue, reception venue, lodging for 22 adults and countless kids, it’s actually a huge bargain. It's also perfect for a DIY bride like me, since I didn't have to deal with any "preferred vendors."
And - it’s just stunningly beautiful. Our guests could not believe how gorgeous the grounds were. Because of the river, the pool, the house, the grounds and our vendors, we continue to hear over and over: “It was the most fun wedding EVER.”
We had a great exeperience with Brittland Estates. Our wedding was at the Ridge Lodge and had our Rehearsal Dinner at Brittland Manor. Natalie is great to work with! Our guests had so many compliments on how beautiful the location of our wedding was. It was the perfect place!
