Brown Dog catered our 52 person wedding reception on August 2, 2025 and it was AMAZING! Bill was so easy to work with throughout the whole process, and he crafted a menu that suite...
d our preferences and was still unique. The food was delicious on the day--it is almost a week later and people are still talking to me about it! The whole Brown Dog team who was on-site that day was absolutely delightful and professional. I HIGHLY recommend!
Brown Dog Catering was hired by a family member for their wedding, The hot food was cold, there were several stations that had no food and no one working at them (for the entire n...
ight), we could hear Bill yelling at his helpers from the cooking tent and they ran out of food early in the night. Bill was rude to someone in the bridal party who asked when the food was coming out. It was very sad for the bride and groom to experience this at their wedding after they believed that Bill would provide the delicious food that he had promised them.
Bill and Brown Dog Catering were excellent to work with for our wedding. We had 26 guests and the team cooked most food right on site. They were kind to work with and easily moved ...
everything when we moved our wedding from last fall without asking for a single deposit. Bill offered suggestions, but essentially let us create our own menu. I was able to rent all Dinnerware (cups, plates, silverware) through them, which was significantly more affordable than Best Event. They were able to make diet accommodations for my dad, which was really important to me so that he could enjoy a delicious dinner too. During our dinner, their staff checked in to see if we needed anything and packed up all leftovers so we could enjoy the next day. We are so happy to work with Brown Dog and thankful for them!
We went with a somewhat non traditional brunch food menu, and Bill was everything I could have possibly wanted. He was there for every question (no matter how small) every time. An...
d most importantly, the food was spectacular. I’m still getting comments and compliments on it weeks later. Constantly on top of things, very reasonably priced, and just all around great to work with. I would highly recommend them to anyone.
Bill at Brown Dog Catering is very unique. He works with you on whatever food, appetizers you want to do and he makes it! He does have some ideas and suggestions from his archive,...
but he basically wants you to tell him what kind of food you like and he plans from there! Very reasonable pricing, prompt responses and communication. The food was AMAZING! We are Pittsburgh and Philly so we had chip chopped ham and philly cheesesteak sliders, buffalo chicken potato skins, mac n cheese in a bacon cup, then an amazing chicken in tomato cream sauce, a carving station, salad and roasted veggies and potatoes. Also stuffed peppers for our veggie friends! (our wedding was back in April and I feel like I am forgetting something!) Everything was great! (we did run out of the carving station but at the very end of the tables being released - but would still definitely recommend Bill and Brown Dog Catering! )
We had Bill and his team cater our wedding cocktail hour(s) and reception at C Barton McCann in October of 2017. We selected him because of recommendations by the previous McCann c...
oordinator as well as his willingness to go outside the box. My husband and I both love food and we love almost all cuisines so it was difficult for us to pick any old caterer that had very structured options. We had a phone meeting with Bill and then met him in person (about a year out) to discuss ideas and price estimates. Bill does not do tastings or contracts (unless the customer wants one). The contract we got is very basic but we wanted to know we had a caterer so we did the contract. We agreed on a heavy appetizer type reception with multiple stations that represented a few of our favorite places and their respective dishes. In all of our discussions we were assured that there would be tons of food and we even discussed how leftovers would be taken care of since we wanted to donate them. Unfortunately, the day of did disappoint when it came to the quantity of food served. The food that I did try was fabulous and I have no doubt that Bill is a talented chef but I think our stations were not a good match with Bill's style and his team’s expertise. We had empty, unstaffed stations after we were assured by Bill’s main helper that they were ready to serve right after the dances. I was embarrassed when I heard the DJ announce to everyone to get up and get food and the two stations behind me had no one there and no food on them. My husband and I were given plates so we didn't experience the stations but I feared the whole night that there wasn't enough to eat. The soup ran out before I got my plate. The pierogis were gone with a whole line of people waiting for them. Bill's helper was also very rude to my mom when she asked how they ran out of pierogis already and she said that 'You guys eat a lot.' I have never experienced a caterer running out of food quite like this. Again, it was embarrassing and I never want to skimp on food for my family and friends who all traveled many hours to be at our wedding.
Bill was also providing the water for our guests and that was also empty way before the evening concluded. We paid for and provided little wooden bowls for a pad Thai dish to be served in. We had discussed serving options multiple times with Bill and on the day of, the bowls were not used so that was a waste of money on our end. The cake cutting was also extremely unorganized. We didn't have plates or utensils for the bride or groom. At the end of the evening our leftover cake was left out in the kitchen. We had asked all the cake to be cut and placed in cake bags for our guests to take home (i provided the bags since this was something Bill had not heard of before). This was not done and we ended up tossing a sheet cake worth the next day. I guess I assumed this was something the caterers always took care of but be sure to discuss all these logistics and get it in writing.
I guess I just expected more from Bill and his team and it is a shame because like I said the food was very good and he made us a special dish which we really appreciated. I'd recommend a Bill for any foodie out there with a smaller and maybe more conventional style event. Just be sure to provide lots of detail and discuss quantities so you know what they are providing and to be sure there is enough for everyone to eat.

r preferences. I was a little nervous when we were told we would not be tasting the food prior to our wedding, but I had no reason to be. The food was wonderful - beautiful, delicious, and very reasonably priced!
Bill at Brown Dog Catering does a fantastic job. He traveled quite far for my wedding and we decided to have lots of small plate options instead of one or two large pieces. His foo...
d was not only delicious and not "wedding food," but he takes great care in the way he displays everything, trying to match it up with the style of your wedding. He is wonderful to work with, very casual and friendly until the day of the event, where he is professional and friendly!
