Busboys and Poets

Hyattsville is the largest of all the Busboys locations (so far), and our 70 guests fit nicely in the lower level, with room for our photographers to move around. We held a ceremony surrounded by guests; if you prefer to be at one end of the room, you can probably fit more. We let Eli and her staff do most of the decorating, with simple but beautiful flowers, candles and white tablecloths. It looked great. We added our special touches in the hour before the ceremony began. (It helped that the natural colors of the room, blue and gold, fit well with our planned palette.) The stairs worked out great for our entrances, and the 5-piece band played comfortably from the stage. It's different, but we quite like that many of our indoor photos have the "rivers of justice" mural in the background. The room has great character. Our photographer took the group photos at a nearby picturesque church. While we were outside taking photos, the staff completely remade the room for our reception. Their professionalism in working to the schedule we'd typed up made the evening run smoothly. The details we'd been specific about, like the drawing of the chair-placement for the ceremony, they were careful to observe. Those we left in their hands, like the cupcake presentation, they pleasantly surprised us with. The in-house catering was delicious. We'd worked closely with Patrick, their Events Manager, meeting periodically with him for almost a year prior. He was patient, supportive and reliable. With his help, we put together a custom all-vegetarian menu that many of our omnivorous friends and family raved about. It was very convenient for everyone to have the ceremony and reception in the same place, with a trained wait staff, the bar, and the kitchen close at hand. And the final bill for the evening was less than one might have expected. It's a great location for a reception, and if you are looking for something a little different from the traditional wedding ceremony, we would highly recommend giving Busboys your consideration. It was a fantastic evening and literally my only regret is that we didn't book the room for longer.

nue. Yes, this is a typical Busboys restaurant. but the Hyattsville location has a large party room at the back that fit our 120 guests with room to spare. You only pay for the food. The space is free. They have a/v hookups and are very helpful with setting all of that up. We brought in our own table decorations. The events staff was sometimes hard to get ahold of when the event was a ways off, but as the big day approached they were accessible and very helpful. We got more than what we paid for. The event was great, and exactly what we wanted. We took pictures at the church across the street, as well as inside among the fun decor there. The staff was attentive and enthusiastic and very understanding re: timing. Our setup people got there early and it took some time to get folks out of the space afterward. They had no problems with that.
