Laurie made a beautiful 3 tier cake for us. Flavors were great, design was just what I was looking for. We had a very special request for a Hello Kitty and Star Lord cake topper keepsake, and she was able to create it! Cake was delicious and we got many compliments on it. We saved the top tier and have been enjoying it for our anniversaries.
Very upset! Was insulted by Lauri's husband. Saying that I sent them NUMEROUS emails about cakes and never followed through and they refused to service me! If they call back in a timely manor I wouldn't had to find someone else for me and my family. Still waiting from an email back from a cake in 2015. They said my cake I wanted is to elaborate and the flavors I wanted. If they had call back in a timely manor. I wouldn't have to find someone else
Cake Alchemy created a beautifully designed 4 layer cake for our wedding, with each layer having its own unique flavor combination. While some wedding cakes can tend to be dry after staying out all day, the sponge from Cake Alchemy was anything but, and all four flavors were phenomenal. The buttercream fillings were also smooth and creamy and the flavor combinations recommended to us for the cake/filling pairings were delicious. I would certainly recommend Cake Alchemy to anyone looking for an amazing design and a truly delectable cake.
When I saw our cake on our wedding day, I was absolutely floored; it far exceeded every expectation I had. Lauri is an artist and an absolute pleasure to work with. When we met with her for a tasting, we described our vision for the cake. We explained that Ganesha (the elephant god) was important to us and was hidden in our wedding invitations. We planned to incorporate Indian culture and themes throughout our wedding, explaining that we had brought in pillows and table runners from India to warm the space.
After talking with her, she recommended incorporating our pillows into the cake by making each layer of the cake a pillow with Ganesha perched on top. We worked together to create stencils that could be used on the pillows that worked within our themes. We were excited about our cake, but could not believe the finished product. It was absolutely extraordinary, and was exceptionally tasty as well. It was work of art! It did not look like an ordinary wedding cake. In fact, it didn’t look like a cake at all. It looked so much like a stack of pillows that our wedding planner had to post a guard by the cake to stop guests from touching it.
All of our guests were overwhelmed by how beautiful our cake was. Guests and vendors are still talking about it weeks after the wedding. You won’t be disappointed if you go with Cake Alchemy!
We worked with Lauri on our recent wedding, and I have to say, the experience from start to finish was fantastic! We found Lauri on Yelp and other wedding cake review sites, and she definitely lived up to her glowing reviews!
- Tasting: Lauri allowed us to schedule it for the night before Thanksgiving (I'd called earlier in the day), when I panicked and suddenly realized we didn't like our caterer's pre-assigned cake option. She worked with our schedule (we were married in NYC and live in LA) to fit us in under extremely short notice. Not only that, she was very pleasant and already had samples waiting for us when we arrived. Her cake samples were awesome - moist and airy, with creamy but not over-buttery frosting (my favorite part of any cake). We found we liked flavors we never thought we would! We selected our flavors and tiers that night, but Lauri let us know we could certainly customize down the road.
- Design process: While we first thought we wanted simple cakes that matched our invitations, as time went on, my fiancé decided we should go more elaborate. He's from India and I'm from NYC, and he decided he it'd be cool to show our two cultures coming together. After many changes of our mind of our vision - of which Lauri was happy to work with each time and very friendly, even as the wedding drew quite close - we ultimately decided we'd like a mix of Indian heroes/figures and well-known structures, as well as the same for NYC. The Indian ones would go down one side of the cake (one for each of the three tiers), and the NYC ones would run parallel on the other side of the cake. With no more than this as direction, Lauri created an absolutely amazing sketched design. After one minor tweak, we went with it! For the groom's cake, my husband had gone back and forth on his theme, and ultimately wanted it to represent our new home together in Santa Monica. All we told her was to include the two of us and the Santa Monica Pier. After asking us for a few pictures of ourselves and sending her our wedding website (in which we had many shots of us at Stanford games in Stanford shirts), we were extremely pleased with her artwork.
- Cakes: Lauri wasn't pushy on payment upfront, allowing us to pay when we picked up the cakes with no deposit in advance. They certainly weren't the cheapest cakes, but they were so personally and intimately crafted, we felt it was worth the price tag. We used the groom's cake for our rehearsal dinner dessert, and I'm not kidding when I say everyone's jaws dropped. The resemblance to my husband and me was phenomenal, as was the full structure of the Santa Monica pier. It was the talk of the night. The following day at the wedding, she'd done an equally impressive job on the wedding cake. I don't usually post pictures, but these were too good not to post.
Thank you Lauri for being so easy to work with and for your fantastic pieces of art that you made - they were such special additions to our wedding!
Cake Alchemy (Lauri Ditunno) did a fantastic job!!! Our cake was truly a work of art. We fully designed our cake from the topper to the filling and it turned out perfect. The cake tasted great as well! Lauri has been on Food Network shows but is very grounded and fun to work with. There were ZERO issues. Lauri can even bake a small "trial" cake with the chosen cake and fillings. Our biggest regret is that we didn't get to eat as much cake as we wanted to because we were busy running around having a great time.
Lauri Ditunno, is a cake goddess, it's that simple. My Wedding cake was beyond incredible! Not only was it the most delicious, moist and perfectly sweet cake that I've ever tasted, but it was truly a piece of exquisite artwork. The color, the concept, texture, every detail was perfection and exactly what
I had asked for, yet so much more! In truth, I didn't think such a vision was actually possible. Did I mention the sugar flowers? I still can't figure out how she makes them because they look so real, fresh and alive! I had to eat one, just to be sure that they were actually sugar! I am in awe of Lauri's artistic abilities and am forever thankful to her for the most beautiful & tasty Wedding Cake imaginable. Any bride would be lucky to have a cake made by Lauri at Cake Alchemy!
These cakes are insanely beautiful! If you want a wedding cake that will bring you to tears because it exceeds your imagination, Lauri will create it for you. Our cake was a fantasy of sugar spun flowers, ruffles and gold accents that was a show stopper. But the truly amazing thing is that it was beyond delicious. I can honestly say it was the best cake I've ever tasted and the varied layers were so pretty when sliced that our guests were taking pictures of their slice. Add to this, the fun factor of hanging with Lauri in her adorable shop to taste her cakes and fillings makes the decision to have a Cake Alchemy wedding cake the best choice a bride could make! Oh and did I mention she got the cake to us in perfect condition through a combination of hurricane and flooded roads that had other vendors complaining it just couldn't be done. I can't thank her enough!
The Bad: A wedding cake by Cake Alchemy was included with our wedding venue, so we didn't have much of an option. Communication with Lauri was slow, and her studio was a dark, filthy mess. Her binder of cake photos was so sticky, the pages had to be peeled from each other as we flipped through. We weren't sure if the glasses of water were for us or leftover by the previous appointment, they were so cloudy. It took 6 weeks for her to give us a sketch that was an exact copy of a cake from the internet, so we ended up giving her a diagram of exactly what we wanted because we did not want to spend any more time or energy on the cake, and to move on with wedding planning. It just didn't seem like Lauri had time for us during the busy summer months leading up to our September wedding. Perhaps it was because we are a package deal customer, but it was a frustrating experience.
The Good: DESPITE THE ABOVE, Lauri's cake was extremely delicious and her work with sugar flowers is impressive. Our design came to life exactly how we hoped, and our guests were in awe of it. Our cake was made up of two different flavours and both were moist and had wonderful flavour without being too sugary. Often wedding cake is stiff and dry, but this cake made you want seconds. If you already know exactly what you want, Lauri can definely make it for you and she will make it delicious.
Lauri is quirky and when we first walked into her shop we thought it might not be the right fit (she has elegant cakes in the window but has many tattoos, and we were certainly wrong to judge her based on something so stupid). We showed Lauri a few Pinterest photos, some photos of our flowers, and she just absolutely nailed what we wanted. We were pretty vague about it as we didn't feel SUPER strongly about anything, and she just created everything we could have hoped for. During the tasting she let us try additional icings that weren't part of the tasting and we ended up going with that. And funfetti wedding cakes?! Get outta town! She was stellar.
We used Cake Alchemy for our wedding cake and not only did it turn out exactly how we wanted it, it was delicious as well!! Lauri was a pleasure to work with, I would highly recommend using Cake Alchemy for your wedding!
Lauri from Cake Alchemy designed a beautiful chandelier wedding cake that looked and tasted amazing. I had a somewhat difficult time explaining exactly what design I wanted, but Lauri took my description and created an artistic masterpiece. I was worried that having fondant for the icing would compromise the taste of the cake, but Cake Alchemy uses a special fondant that is not overly sweet and perfectly complements any cake flavor. She even let me try some fondant during our initial consultation. My guests at my wedding told me over and over how wonderful the cake tasted! I can't thank her enough for the perfect cake.
Years before I was even engaged I saw Lauri and Cake Alchemy on a wedding tv show, and knew that she would make my wedding cake. When we saw her on the list of suggested vendors for our venue, I knew that this was fate. I met with Lauri to talk about what we wanted the cake to look like and she very quickly understood our theme. The cake sketch she did was absolutely perfect for what we wanted. She designed a birch colored cake that had topsy-turvy layers with purple flowers and a golden key/lock set. Oh and of course, it had her signature sugar bubbles. Even guests that said they weren’t really cake people, loved the taste of it. We were so pleased with our experience and would recommend her to anyone.
creative, quality, beauty - delicious!!!!
Working with Lori was great. She is very quick in getting back to you and listens to you. She truly outdid herself with the cake. The cake looked so beautiful that my husband and I did not want to cut into it. And the cake itself was just absolutely delicious. All my guests were going on and on of how moist and well, just yummy it was. I have my piece saved for our 1 year anniversary but i really would love to eat it now lol. Cake alchemy definitely is worth it.
My cake was absolutely amazing! We went to Lauri with a picture of a cake she had previously done that was slightly above our price range. She made some adjustments to the design to fit our budget and style and the cake came out beautiful.
We got a red velvet cake with cream cheese filling. It was perfect - very moist and not too sweet. The decorations on it were also beautiful. Everything about the process was painless. Thank you, Lauri!
We asked for a purple, topsy turvy chocolate cake and that's exactly what we got. Lauri was super nice and she is a great listener and had wonderful ideas. The cake was DELICIOUS, we didn't save our top tier because it was so good. We ate a slice of it a day until it was gone :( HA! worth it!!!!!!
Lauri made a fabulous groom's cake for us!! It was a surprise for my groom and I wanted a very specific make & model of car...his favorite. She did a truly amazing job. My new husband loved it and it was the hit of the party!! Can't recommend them more highly!!
Not sure what the problem was with the previous person but I would never look any other place other than Cake Alchemy. We met with Lauri and she was awesome, we are having an over the top wedding in NYC and they would be the only place to go. Look at there web site and try another place and you will be sorry you did. Please understand that the quality of work they offer will cost you but remember that you only have one wedding day (hopefully) and one chance at a perfect cake. Price is important but quality matters more.
My fiance and I went with grand expectations to our consulation with Cake Alchemy. After communicating with the assistant for a week we expected a cake sketch and different cake flavors. What we got was stale cake and no sketch. The cake designer had no idea where my wedding was to take place although her assistant already quoted me a delivery price. I received my sketch a week and a half later and it looked like a child drew it. There was no care taken whatsoever. We were so disappointed at their unprofessionalism that we would not recommend them to anyone and their cake was just so-so
