Cakes by Karen

We called Cakes by Karen one week before my wedding and they made it happen! I was so nervous that because of the virus I wouldn’t be able to have a “real” wedding cake. The cake was exactly what I had imagined and I received many compliments from guests all night!

Cakes by Karen made our wedding cake in November of 2018. Oue wedding cake was beautiful and absolutely delicious! All of the staff at Cakes by Karen were wonderful to work with. I highly recommend using Cakes by Karen for all of your bakery needs. I know we can't wait to use them again!

Karen and her staff helped create our wedding cake on 10-27-18. We were able to come and enjoy such a yummy tasting for cake selections. I brought some ideas of our cake and she was able to describe what they use for certain details and pricing. Very accommodating and affordable. I dropped off my decorations/cake toppers with Karen to help picture what we might like. The first time we saw it at the reception was priceless!! Better than we could have ever expected, just perfect!!! Cake was delicious and we also had a gluten free cake that was scrumptious :) Thank you for your masterpiece and making our wedding the best!! I will start by saying that our wedding cake was delicious and beautiful! The cake was decorated exactly like the picture that I provided. The reason I am giving this vendor a 3-star instead of 5-star is because of size of the cake. I had no idea the cake would be so small! Needless to say we RAN OUT of cake! I'm not sure who to blame, our coordinator or the cake vendor. From day one our cake was supposed to serve 100-130 guests and I finalized the count of 130 with my coordinator 3 days before the wedding. I even went in to the bakery a month before the wedding and spoke with the owner about paying for an additional sheet cake just to make sure there was no way cake would be an issue at my wedding. She assured me that the cake I ordered would be enough and that I shouldn't need to order an extra cake. We ended up having to serve our anniversary layer just so that my parents table was able to get cake. Since the wedding, I keep finding out that more and more people didn't get any cake. This is extrememly embarrassing and disappointing because I was telling my family and friends how good Karen's cakes are. The vendor did agree to replace our anniversary layer at no charge if I took down the review that I originally wrote because it was a bit harsh. I do appreciate her replacing our anniversary layer, so I decided to give more detail in this review to be fair. If you decide to use this vendor, my advise would be to order an extra cake no matter what or get her to show you an example "to scale" of exact size that your cake will be based on your guest count. Do not just assume they will make a cake big enough to serve all of your guests.

I could not have asked for a better bakery! From the first cake tasting, I knew this bakery was the right choice. My wedding cake was decorated perfectly and it tasted amazing!

Their cake was amazing. I loved their chocolate cake with chocolate filling. They made a beautiful cake for my wedding.

Our bridal shower cake and wedding cake were talked about from ALL of our guests! The banana cake for the shower was to die for and our funfetti/white cake with strawberries for the wedding definitely exceeded our expectations :) Thanks Tammy and Cakes by Karen!

We had a hiccup with our venue & needed a cake quickly. Cakes by Karen was able to get us an amazing cake even though we had less than a month til the big day. They were great & the cake was so delicious!

Let me start by saying our wedding cake tasted amazing....but we were disappointed with the design of our cake. We gave them a picture from a magazine of what we expected our cake to looke like and we were told it would be no problem. It was supposed to have realistic looking peacock feathers randomly incorporated throughout the design but it didn't. The cake looked plain, the peacock feathers didn't look realistic at all, and they were not plafed how we has discussed so they looked like they didn't belong. I would recommend this bakery because the cake tasted amazing, but I would recommend a simple design.

Our wedding cake was beautiful. I am always hesitant to try the wedding cake they are usually dry and you can tell they have been made days before the event. This cake was so moist and delicious. It was more beautiful than I could have imagined.

I found a very detailed cake on Pinterest that I fell in love with. I had gone to multiple other bakers who basically tried not to laugh and then presented a modified version of the cake I wanted. When I went to Cakes by Karen they were not at all concerned about how intricate the cake was. They made it perfectly and it looked amazing. But, enough about how it looked.... it tasted AMAZING! My mother in law about fell off her chair when she tried it at the tasting. Her and I both had a piece of each flavor at the wedding (chocolate with chocolate mousse and vanilla with crème brulee filling). The actual store does not look like much, but the results speak for themselves!

My family has been going to Cakes by Karen's for years so there wasn't a question of where our wedding cake would come from. The cake was one of thing i couldn't wait for the day of the wedding because I knew it was going to be so good! The service is always good and the cakes are amazing! They are a great local gem and we would never go any where else.

Their cakes are the best and they are helpful. We went with Cakes by Karen because a friend recommended them. I generally researched every single vendor before I met with them and I was not having luck in the cake area. My FI and I went to a cake testing at another bakery and the cake was not good. We were also watching on how much we spent because we were having a big wedding. But Tammy at Cakes by Karen, was helpful and designed the cake we wanted after our tasting. I still use Cakes by Karen for my vegan cakes. All of their cakes are just so good!

Cakes by Karen did an amazing job with our wedding cake! It was exactly what we wanted as far as the decorating, and the cake was fantastic! The only complaint from the guests was that we ran out of the yummy cake!

I had them do my cake for my wedding and it turned out AMAZING!!! I loved it and they made it exactly the way I wanted it!!!

Cakes by Karen is first of all delicious! Second of all we wanted something really different for our cake and it came out exactly how we “pictured” it! They are so helpful! Love them!

Cakes by Karen made a good cake. It didn't blow my mind, but it was tasty. I visited their store and looked through all the books and they made me comfortable with coffee and cake samples. But when the time came to actually talk about prices for different styles, Karen made me feel a little rushed. I eventually just brought them a picture of a cake I found online and told them that I'd like that replicated, and they did a good job. It was very pretty, but a bit more expensive than I had hoped (but still cheaper than Calumet Bakery which was the other bakery we looked at). Overall, I was pleased with their service, though, and I'd recommend them to other brides.

Hi went with Cakes by Karen. Not only was the price very reasonable but the cake flavor and quality was outstanding. My cake was a big 'hit' at the wedding. For the same cake I wanted, another vendor wanted to charge me an extra $300 dollars then what Cakes by Karen could do and Cakes by Karen's cake tasted better. They went above and beyond for me.

Picking our Cake maker was a very simple task! Everyone has always recommended Cakes by Karen, & I will always use them in the future! We meet with them to do our tasting and didn't want to stop eating all the samples! I am not a cake eater & I they have turned me! They also ended up doing our shower cake as well! It turned out beautiful as well!! They are so nice, professional, & very reasonable! Our cake was a 4 tier with flowers that they had hand made cascading down the front and side of the cake! Everyone thought the flowers were real flowers and everyone raved about the cake! Our cake was so delicious! I recommened them to every bride! If you want delicious cake, well priced & amazing design... you should definately choose Cakes by Karen! We loved our cake!!! Thanks again!!!

My husband and I chose Cakes by Karen for our wedding cake after having a cake tasting there. We took in pictures of two cake designs that we wanted to combine for our wedding cake. They worked with us on the price to fit our dream cake into our budget. Our wedding cake was beautiful and delicious! We got lots of compliments on it. I would recommend Cakes by Karen to anyone in the northwest Indiana area! Only drawback is they don't accept credit or debit cards but that was easy to work around.

After we had ordered the cake, my husband and I had loved the cake for my sister's wedding. Which their cake was much more bigger in size. I will admit I was a bit worried as to what it would look like. However, that night when we saw it. It was cute, the perfect size, and it had the most beautiful sunflowers on the cake that I could imagine. I was very pleased with the cake, and the taste of the cake the day after seeing that I did not get any that night.

We ordered a 2 tier wedding cake for our wedding. When I showed up to the reception, I was disappointed at how small it was. I didn't think it would be as small as it was. We had the french vanilla flavor and it was great! High price for such a small cake

Beautiful wedding cake!! 4-tiered, yellow, with white sugar flowers; pound cake with white chocolate and raspberry filling... delicious!! Professional and reliable, would definitely use them again.

Loved Cakes by Karen! Our red velvet cupcake tower was delicious and everyone was raving about it!

My wedding cake was very important to me and Cakes by Karen did not fail to deliver a delicious cake. I loved the fact they offer a whipped cream type frosting that is safe to leave out at room temperature. People are still telling me how much they enjoyed our cake. The cake was promptly delivered and all set up long before my guests arrived. My only complaint would have to be that the decorations were not quite what I had pictured in my head. The cake was pretty and had most of the elements I had discussed but just wasn't what I was expecting. I would definately recommend using Cakes by Karen if flavor and consistency are high on your priority list, just have a very clear picture/explanation of what you want it to look like or you may end up slightly disappointed.

We got wedding cupcakes, great price. Showed a couple pictures and let them do the rest. Very happy. They also picked up the cake stand from the venue afterwards to make it so much easier on us. Very east to work with.

After hearing many great reviews from coworkers and friends, I scheduled a tasting with Cakes by Karen. I was in love with many of their delicious cake flavors, fillings, and icings! I came in with a simple cake design in mind, but after looking at their numerous cake books, I found a new design that fit perfectly with my wedding theme! The staff at Cakes by Karen were very friendly and accommodating. They were even up for working with me on an edible dessert favor ideas for my guests! My guests raved about the taste of my wedding cake. Score! I can't wait to enjoy the top layer on my first wedding anniversary and order more cakes from them in the future!

They had many sample pictures, they are energetic, and very yummy! I brought a picture of a cake myself and the cake was true to the picture, but much better than the picture! I'm pretty sure that they can do anything you ask!

The cake was absolutely beautiful and delicious! Everyone commented on how yummy the cake was. Delivered on time and as promised :)

These women are VERY talented! Our cake was not only delicious and moist, but very very beautiful. It was the perfect end to an already perfect day!
