Cakes by Ron

We first learned of cakes by Ron at our venues food and wine tasting event. There were two cake vendor options but in the end, decided to go with cakes by Ron due to the quality and care that I observed in person and while doing my research. We scheduled a cake consultation with Nathan and could not be happier with that experience. He was very friendly, attentive and asked questions not only about the cake but he took the time to get to know us as well. Honestly, Brian and I could have sat there for hours talking with him! Turns out they have provided cake and cupcakes for our company’s opening night parties! What a small world! He listened to our vision and helped make the design come to life. Not to mention, sampling the different flavors that we were wanting for our wedding was also a bonus because they were so delicious! Flash forward to the week before our wedding and I had to zip over to the shop to drop off a color swatch of a specific color we wanted for part of the cake. We met with Ron and he was so nice and went over the details one last time before we headed out. The day of our wedding at LBKC resort, the cake arrived on time and when I finally was able to see it, I was so excited at how perfect it was. We originally had planned a 4 tier cake with our anticipated guest count, however when our final guest count number came in we were only contracted for 3 tiers. Each tier planned was its own flavor combination, so we were not wanting to lose any of the flavor combo’s, but instead paid for the 4th tier so we could still have everything as originally planned. They were so kind and understanding of our visions and we were just so happy to make it all work! Cakes by Ron is the best cake vendor around and we are so thankful to have had the opportunity to work with the family owned business and to have their tasty amazing cake at our wedding. Best cake hands down and we will always remember it from our special day.

Cakes by Ron provided our wedding cake and cupcakes and they were so amazing! The staff is friendly and the dessert was so delicious and beautiful! You definitely get what you pay for with Cakes by Ron.

We had Cakes By Ron make our wedding cake for our wedding here in Sarasota. I was the informal bride, so I just popped in and bought some cupcakes, and they were DELICIOUS (And I'm VERY picky about cake too!) After looking at the flavor options and a few emails later, I had a call to place the order and that was it. SO easy! My florist was familiar with them, and was just able to drop off the flowers 2 days in advance, and I didn't have to do a thing. The cake arrived in plenty of time on the wedding day and was delicious and fresh. (I HIGHLY recommend the strawberry cake!) The guests absolutely LOVED the cake and it turned out exactly how we wanted. Wedding cakes can be bleh, but this was a cake I would buy over and over (in smaller quantities of course). Based off of reviews and reputation, we had thought that we’d have nothing but a good experience with Cakes by Ron; however, this unfortunately was not the case. Our tasting went well and we were excited about everything we had decided on. We ordered a 3 layer ivory and white wedding cake as well as 175 cupcakes. On the day of our wedding, we were surprised with how everything turned out. The cake was the wrong color and was tipping over at the top. Our wedding party jokingly took to calling it the Leaning Tower of Pisa, which was hilarious, but not at all what we had hoped for. We ended up having to cut it at the beginning of the evening so it wouldn’t fall over. When we cut into it, the groom and I noticed that the texture of the bottom layer was a bit odd, but as it tasted good (I’ll at least give them that!), we didn’t think too much about it. The venue staff later let us know that the bottom layer of the cake was essentially unable to be served as the slices were crumbling and falling apart. The largest part of this not cheap cake was unusable. As for the cupcakes, I didn’t try them, but my Maid of Honor who was at our tasting said they were fine, but smaller and didn’t taste as good as at the tasting. We were also surprised that the frosting on the strawberry ones was neon pink instead of the more natural, pale frosting at the tasting. There was no indication that what we received would be different from what we ordered. Lastly, if my planner had not let me know that I was responsible for providing my own serving trays, I wouldn’t have known. Admittedly, this is a small point, but indicative of the level of communication from Ron’s. Any of these things individually would not have bothered us, but put together, we’re pretty unhappy. All in all, I can’t recommend them. The level of quality for the price was horrible. We know based on their instagram and other reviews that they are more than capable of doing what was ordered and we’ll never know why they dropped the ball so badly for us.

From start to finish, we loved Cakes by Ron. The tasting process was amazing and all of their flavors are delicious. I'm gluten free as are a few other guests, so when trying those, you couldn't even taste the difference. Delivery was seamless to the venue (I even had to ask if it arrived since they were so quick) and it was perfect.

Our cake was spectacular! No cake is the same, they have a vision and design for all aesthetics. Their flavors are delicious! Our guests wanted more!

Cakes by Ron did an AMAZING job with my wedding cake. They recreated the intricate cake with painted oranges on it I was dreaming of, and the fondant even tasted great! We went with their red velvet and confetti flavors, and could not be happier with the taste, the look, and the professionalism.

Cakes by Ron was amazing to work with. Everyone commented on how amazing the cake was. we did a partial naked cake with lemon and raspberry with key lime cups and raspberry cheescake cups and everyone loved it! I HIGHLY recommend using Cakes by Ron if you're in or near the Sarasota area!

We booked our wedding with Lido Beach Resort, which offered a cake with Cakes by Ron included in the package. We met in person at Cakes by Ron and they had us try several types of cakes and frostings that we were looking at. Holy cow, all of them were amazing and it was extremely hard to choose! We settled on fresh, tropical flavors and every layer was different. Each layer was so delicious and so many people were blown away by how delicious it was! We also asked for certain things on our cake, and they absolutely delivered. Our cake was a huge hit at the wedding! Thanks Cakes by Ron!

All I can say is why didn’t I eat more cake at the wedding?! Absolutely delicious. I’m gluten free and we did a top tier GF, with 2 regular cakes, absolutely delicious. Drop off at the venue was seamless, the cake was beautiful with sugar flower. From the cake testing to the wedding absolutely the reason why they’re one of the best of SRQ year after year.

We are so glad we got our wedding cake from Cakes by Ron! The cake was not only beautiful and exactly the design we asked for, but it was delicious!! We got a different flavor for each tier, and they were all perfect. Our guests ate the whole cake - and it was a big cake, so they must have loved it! The planning process was so easy. They did an amazing job with my cake. Not only did they design it perfectly so it looked gorgeous, covered in handmade sugar flowers, but it was absolutely delicious. We had three tiers, with salted caramel, cookies and creme, and lemon cake with raspberry filling, and I was told by multiple people that it was the best wedding cake they had ever eaten. They were also incredibly understanding when I could not decide between real flowers and sugar flowers. I would highly recommend hiring them for your wedding!

We originally tasted cakes by Ron at our food tasting through the resort we had our wedding at and literally one bite into the chocolate and I didn’t need to look anywhere else for our cake, not to mention the display cakes he had were absolutely stunning! When we finally went in for our consultation, we met with Nathan and he worked with my pictures from Pinterest of the vision I had and drew up the most beautiful cake ever. When we finally saw the cake at the wedding, I was just blown away, it was SO GORGEOUS and tasted AMAZING!!!!! I only wish I could have eaten more of it!! I would highly recommend Cakes by Ron! It’s one thing to make a beautiful cake, but one that tastes just as good as it looks, that’s talent!!!!

The most amazing cake I ever could have imagined and tasted!! The team at Cakes by Ron are a true talent, they will bring your vision to reality. I met them through my wedding planner, Jennifer Matteo. My husband and I got to meet with them in July, prior to our wedding, for what was probably one of the best part of wedding planning- cake tasting!! Cuz who doesn't like tasting delicious samples of cakes. Everything we had during our sampling was delicious but honestly the final product was incredible. We decided on 4 different flavors! So glad we did because every bite was like a new dessert offering to our guest. We haven't gotten our pictures back yet but will share when we do- the design of our flowers were out of this world and the color's were exactly what we wanted. From the moment you step foot in their Sarasota store you willl see their "art work" but when it's your own your heart skips a beat. I can't wait to order future cakes from them to celebrate memorable occasions! I have a coworker who just got engaged and was at our wedding and wants to order their cake from Cakes by Ron (for a guy to say this you know it must be good :)) Thank you Cakes by Ron! We chose a semi-naked cake that was made of salted caramel and a butter cream frosting. It was amazing! Nathan was great to work with and our cake withstood high temperatures and a 40 minute commute to the wedding. We definitely recommend Cakes by Ron!

Ron’s cakes are the best in the business! Not only was our wedding cake delicious but it was absolutely gorgeous. Ron and his staff made every last detail perfect. They are very reliable and delivered our cake on time. There are also several different flavors and frosting to choose from.

Coming from out of state for our wedding we couldn’t ask for a better bakery for our wedding cupcakes. I was in town for one week to marathon plan/line up vendors and our photographer suggest Cakes by Ron. Off I went to Ron’s to try their cupcakes. OMG yummy! So I asked about setting up a cake tasting/consulting appointment later in the week. To my surprise they got me in right then and there. Nathan was nothing but accommodating and full of suggestions. As a first time bride I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Whenever i spoke to one of our vendors and they asked who’s doing your “cake/cupcakes” i always got “oh yeah Cakes by Ron is the best choice.” I couldn’t agree more. On our wedding day a family member picked them up and delivered to our reception site. Sarasota Sunset was a HUGE hit.

We did a sweetheart cake and cupcakes with Cakes by Ron for our wedding at Longboat Key Club. We worked with Nathan, Ron's son, and he was absolutely wonderful. He was patient with our taste testing and selecting several different flavors (and when I called a few days later to make an order change), really helpful in walking us through the process, and very professional. They called twice the week of the wedding to confirm all of the details of our order and delivered everything on time. Our guests raved about how great the cupcakes were, I honestly don't think I've ever had a better tasting cake or cupcake anywhere. Thank you!

We're so thrilled we got to work with Cakes By Ron for our wedding day. Our cake was DELISH (alternating tiers of funfetti and banana, yum!!) and so, so beautiful. Nathan and the CBR team made my cake vision come to life perfectly, executing a gorgeously simple, four-tiered semi-naked cake, which my florist topped with a few fresh blooms. It was beautiful!! And soooo yummy. CBR also made our wedding favors — chocolate chip cookie sandwiches with buttercream — which were really delicious, and so cute. They wrapped them for us and used the customized stickers we printed as well. CBR was incredibly easy to work with, and very accommodating. They even let us have a last-minute second cake tasting because we were second guessing our flavor choices — at no charge! It's a very nice team working there. I'm so excited to eat the top tier on our anniversary :) Can't wait! It's THAT good.

We recently booked Cakes By Ron for our wedding cakes and we are SO excited!! Nathan was super helpful, accommodating, and truly listened to what we wanted and drew up our vision right before our eyes. Not only was the service amazing- the cakes were even better! We took home several boxes of the cupcakes to tell all of our friends about Cakes By Ron. Thank you, especially to Nathan, for making this experience to relaxing, fun, end truly enjoyable! We can't wait to see our dream cakes come to life!

I cannot comment on the quality of service, responsiveness, professionalism or flexibility of the vendor because we did not deal with them directly. Our caterer is now working with Cakes by Ron to provide wedding cakes, so we were able to have our cake tasting done directly with the catering chef, with whom we also shared our vision for the design. The cake was absolutely delicious! We went with salted caramel and chocolate fudge flavors for the first and second tier's respectively, with a salted caramel cake topper to save for our first anniversary. Wedding cakes are expensive, even when the design is simple (such as ours), so I find it hard to give 5 stars for value, but from what I've heard, ours was reasonably priced for a 3-tier cake.

This is my first review ever, I have to give my honest opinion so no one else will have the same bad experience, . Ordered a "naked wedding cake" from Cakes by Ron for my daughter's wedding this past weekend. We were so disappointed and embarrassed, our guests referred to the cake as the "Leaning Tower of Pisa"! The bottom layer was lob sided, which caused the other 2 layers to tilt. To top it, they put the wrong filling in, the one we really did not like! My wedding planner told me that the delivery person plopped the cake down and hurried out. I called the owner and he had an excuse for everything!! He did not even apologize for the wrong filling, no apologies, did I say no apologies?!! I read all the great reviews before deciding on Cakes by Ron, therefore really shocked! Towards the end of the conversation I was very upset so the conversation did not end well. Be aware and very cautious, this bakery can not bake a naked cake, and although the cake itself was moist and delicious, it was outweighed by the layers and layers of wrong filling. My wedding planner will not use them in the future.

My husband and I used Cakes by Ron for our wedding this past February and we could not be more pleased! Ron was a pleasure to work with, our cake was beautiful and tasted even better! I will absolutely be using him for more celebrations!

Cakes by Ron is AMAZING! From the phenomenal cake tasting to their beautiful cakes, I highly recommend them. They worked with me on a simple design for the wedding cake and were very flexible with adapting my cupcake order based on our final guest count. And their gluten-free cakes are SO TASTY!

When I got engaged, I knew from the very beginning that Ron would do my wedding cake. His cakes are not just super tasty but also super gorgeous. When I met with him for our consultation, I honestly had no idea of what kind of design I wanted. He was so accomodating and was able to come up with a gorgeous design. He also made a super awesome groom's cake for my husband that he LOVED. He is still talking about how amazing it was. Thank you Ron for making my wedding so special.

3-11-16 Selby gardens. Ron is not only a master at unique cake decorating, his cakes are absolutely delicious. It can be a little difficult getting to him through his staff, but it was well worth it. After the success with the wedding cake, I ordered an extra large sheet cake for retirement party thinking I might be able to enjoy leftovers. Wrong assumption on my part. No Cake Left!

As always, our cake was absolutely delicious! We came across them at a wedding expo, and being a couple who doesn't love sweets, we were sold the second we savored every bite of the samples they had out. They were very helpful with us being an out of town couple by letting our caterer handle the tasting. That being said, there was a severe lack of communication. I had to return multiple phone calls and emails answering the same questions over and over. Also, the day of, our cake was missing the fresh fruit aspect of the decoration. Unfortunately, being the bride at a small venue, I wasn't really able to walk the grounds and chit chat/check with vendors while they were dropping off so I didn't catch the mistake until after the ceremony. Sure, its a small detail, but a detail that would have been appreciated. Luckily, what it looked like on the outside didn't affect how tasty it was!

Our cake was delicious and beautiful! Ron worked out a way for us to have the cake we wanted within our budget. Definitely one of the best cakes in town!

Our cake was great! Tasted great, looked great! My only regret is that we didn't get to try the amaretto with cannoli filling, as the waitstaff served that all to our guests!

We are from Chicago and had our wedding in Sarasota on October 11th, 2014. We had a great experience working on the phone and via email with Dawn at Cakes by Ron. Our wedding cake was delicious (all three flavors of it!) and we were pleased we had so many different choices to select from. Our cake had 3 tiers and each one was a different set of flavor and filling. We froze the top tier and are looking forward to enjoying it on our 1st anniversary next year!

Wow, fabulous job! I was quite nervous because I live in Indiana and was having a beach wedding in Florida. My wedding planner was the one who actually referred me to them and I am glad they did. They were very professional and caring. I was able to make an apt with them before our wedding just to come in and visit the store to help ease my nerves! They def made me feel better about their ability to come through on providing us with an exceptional cake. It was beautiful and delivered on time. There were no problems at all. They even gave us 4 HUGE cupcakes when we visited for tasting. Thank you so much for a great experience!
