My experience getting married at Camp Kiwanee was bittersweet. The venue itself is undeniably beautiful, offering a picturesque backdrop for our special day. However, the communication from the staff left much to be desired. From initially booking the venue to coordinating final payments and rehearsal details, we consistently had to take the initiative to reach out to them. Renae, who assisted with our rehearsal and decorations, did a good job, but it felt like we were left to figure things out on our own without an event coordinator. Thankfully, the catering company we hired had a coordinator who helped immensely on the wedding day. Overall, while Camp Kiwanee provided a stunning setting for our wedding, the lack of proactive communication and support from the venue made the planning process more stressful than it should have been.
We absolutely loved getting married at Camp Kiwanee — their mix of rustic and scenic was exactly what we wanted on our day, and we loved renting out the campground overnight for our afterparty. We also loved the amount of green space with the event spaces all being either in-door or covered. Renae and team were very down-to-earth and responsive to our many questions, plus very helpful when we did venue visits (I would recommend couples who get married here have car access for some on-site time). Guests are still raving about the event even though it was months ago, and we are so excited to continue to visit Kiwanee throughout our married life together!
Camp Kiwanee was the most beautiful, fun, perfect venue for our wedding. We were looking for a very low key, easy place where we could just throw a party and Camp Kiwanee was the perfect location for that. We worked closely with Renae who was so responsive and informative about the whole wedding planning process. The ceremony site overlooking the lake is beyond gorgeous and despite downpouring rain it was a beautiful day.
This venue was an absolute nightmare to deal with. The lack of communication was unbelievable. Multiple phone calls and emails were left unread. Over the course of the year leading up to our wedding I had to reach out to them numerous times to which they wouldn't reply. I would have to drive 2 hours to them to accomplish anything. The day of the wedding finally comes around and the manager left early so our venue was locked for the entire day until our ceremony started. Then....they had zero landscaping done...no flowers planted just old dead summer flowers in the middle of October. We went out and bought pumpkins, mum's, and cornstalks to make it look a little more presentable. We even planted mums!!!! Our cabins, bridal cabin, and bathrooms were disgusting. No one has cleaned them....a toilet was overflowing that no one addressed. The bridal cabin was the worst....mouse feces everywhere, dirt, and it smelled like body odor and dirty feet with debris all over the ground. They didn't even leave us toilet paper. THEN they claimed we didn't give them a security deposit (we did) and refused to give us it back. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this venue to anyone. The lack of communication alone was appalling but they lack hospitality and cheat you out of money. Stay away!
An absolute magical place to have a wedding! Our guests can't stop talking about what a beautiful, unique, and special venue we chose. (Good job, us!) Our ceremony was on the porch overlooking the pond, cocktail hour was outside, and the reception was in the gorgeous lodge -- and then about half our guests opted to spend the night with us in the cabins in the South End campground which was even more fun than the wedding itself! The caretakers who were on site the night of the wedding were super accommodating and helpful, and both events coordinators (first Lan, and then Dori) were amazing. We also had to change our wedding date THREE times thanks to the pandemic, and everyone at Kiwanee was nothing but helpful and kind and patient. Seriously, you cannot go wrong with having a wedding at Camp Kiwanee!
We were/are super excited about the actual venue. But the communication has been extremely poor/nonexistant to the point that I wouldn't recommend anyone book this venue. We asked for a floor plan showing table arrangements a year ago when we booked. Never got one, which we just attributed to covid. We're now less than two months out from our wedding date and have sent 6 emails over the past several weeks and haven't gotten a single response. Still no floor plan, no details about where bride and groom can get ready, not even anything asking us to pay the rest of the fee which was allegedly due at 60 days out.
I've called and left messages several times with no call back. We're usually pretty laid back but getting very upset at this point due to the lack of communication.
The moment I stepped into Camp Kiwanee I was struck by the nostalgic and beautiful feel the entire space had. Think Dirty Dancing vibes! Lan, the administrative assistant for the camp was incredible to work with from start to finish. She is responsive, warm, and happy to help you through the entire wedding process with whatever questions or concerns you have. The venue lets you bring in any outside catering which is a huge money saver, and also includes beautiful white garden chairs and round tables, things that can really add up as "extras" to rent at other venues. We didn't have to do much for decor because the gorgeous building and scenery did the work for us. Having the beauty of an outdoorsy wedding with the luxury of AC and indoors for the reception was incredible for our summer wedding! We also stayed at the on site bridal cottage the night before and the night of the wedding, which was great! Can not say enough good things about this venue!
Our wedding was amazing. Thanks to Lan and the amazing communication. The venue is breath taking. We hosted 160 ppl at our wedding and rented southend camp area for about 50 guests. Our guests loved the rustic accommodations for sleeping over. I would highly recommend using this venue for your next event. I will be doing business again with the Town of Hanson recreation dept.
Camp Kiwanee was the perfect venue for us! It allowed us to personalize our wedding, but stay within a reasonable budget. Lan was so helpful, always quick and on top of everything! If you are looking for a rustic scene and looking to do some DIY, please check out Camp Kiwanee! They did a fantastic job!
Absolutely the perfect venue for my husband and I. Lan was so helpful in answering all of our questions, and there were a lot of them! The staff that was on site with us day of was amazing and made sure we had everything we needed. The venue was exactly what I wanted and I will always remember how beautiful and perfect it was. We rented the south end campground and had friends stay overnight with us, plus we were able to continue the party at the pavilion and make s’mores! If you’re looking for a rustic, affordable venue, look no further!
The venue is beautiful! Perfect for a rustic wedding. The staff there was always helpful with answers to all of my questions through every stage of planning. The cabins were great and camping was a lot of fun. There were also plenty of hotels that were only a 15-20 min drive for those that weren't up for roughing it. I would get married there all over again.
Camp Kiwanee was the perfect place for our wedding! From the start, working with Lan was easy and she was always responsive. The wedding day we also had amazing service with Bill gladly accommodating any and all requests (extra chairs, open the gate to the beach, etc). I would highly recommend Camp Kiwanee - beautiful setting and great venue to work with.
Our wedding at Camp Kiwanee was perfect! Lan was so helpful in the lead up to the day, and the staff was great in helping with set up before the event. The covered porch area was great for our ceremony; it was almost raining and it gave us one less thing to worry about. The reception space is perfect, and it was amazing to get ready, have the ceremony, the reception, and stay over all in the same location. We rented the south end campground for the night and it was great to have the party continue with many of our guests!
Having a wedding here definitely involves a bit more DIY than some other places, as they don't have a full service wedding coordinator. I hired a friend to serve as a day-of coordinator and I would absolutely recommend that, so you don't have to be meeting vendors and coordinating deliveries on the day. The bartending company they require you hire (Bartending Service of New England) was also great and super easy to work with!
Our wedding at Camp Kiwanee could not have been more amazing. Lan was fantastic and easy to work with, and the venue was stunning! We used the cabins for a low-key bonfire after the reception, and they were awesome since our guests had the option of not driving after the wedding! Overall, it was an amazing experience start to finish and I definitely recommend!
We absolutely LOVED having our wedding at Camp Kiwanee. The grounds, Needles Lodge, cabins, and view of Maquan Pond just can’t be beat. Lan, the coordinator, and all of the caretakers were very attentive to our needs and helped facilitate all of our wedding plans. Our wedding had a relaxed, rustic theme and our venue could not have suited it better.
Our guests were amazed by our venue and many even stayed overnight in the cabins. After our ceremony overlooking the pond and our reception we headed over to the camping area for a fire, s'mores, and more fun. The next morning we hosted a breakfast in the Pavilion.
Using this venue really made us feel like we had a wedding weekend rather than just a few hours of celebrating. I would recommend Camp Kiwanee to anyone looking for a non-traditional wedding venue.
My husband and I just got married here in August 2015, and absolutely loved this venue. It was the ONE and only venue we looked at because we just knew it was the place for us. The Needles lodge is a beautiful location for the ceremony (outside on the deck which overlooks the lake) and for the reception. The lodge has a very rustic and beautiful look to it, as it is all wood room with exposed wood beams (that they even decorate with lights for you).
Another unique and different feature is that the floor to ceiling windows recess down into the floor and open up to the outside, so it can accommodate more guests for your ceremony.
There are no caterer restrictions - so we were even able to rent a food truck for our caterer! You must go with their bar service- The Bartending Service of New England- but Bill is so accommodating and easy to work with! The staff at Camp K is great here as well-- Nicole (administrative asst) and Jim (caretaker) are very responsive and super helpful!
The only negative to this place is that right after your wedding ends, you only have 30 minutes to pack up your entire wedding, including belongings, decorations, etc. I felt very rushed and hectic trying to get everything/everyone out of there in time.
You have the option of renting the entire south end campground for the night of your wedding only, and that can accommodate up to 100 people. For us, this was perfect because we wanted to continue the party after our wedding. They have an electric cabin with an updated bathroom (where my husband and I stayed) and then little summer camp style cabins with cots where your guests can stay. We even went swimming in the lake late night!
This place is perfect for couples who are looking to have a relaxed, diy, rustic yet elegant and fun wedding!
We decided to book Camp Kiwanee without even seeing it in person but it was the best decision we made! The staff is incredibly responsive and helpful and the site is kept in good condition. All of our guests kept commenting about how beautiful the site was. Nicole and Jim do a great job and we are so happy to have had our big day at Camp Kiwanee!
We had our ceremony and reception here. The people there are so nice and the venue is gorgeous, complete with a lakeside view! It's old-timey and rustic at the same time. The price was unbelievably low for what we got ($1300 total), and that worked for us b/c we were going for a low budget wedding. But you would never know it. We couldn't get enough compliments on the place, and even though we did add decor, it would not have even been necessary, it was gorgeous on its own.
