Camp Laurelwood was the perfect setting for our rustic, casual, and fun, summer wedding weekend. We used the camp cabins as sleeping accommodations for ourselves and many of our friends and family, allowing everyone to stay close-by for our weekend-long celebration. The kosher kitchen at camp cooked every meal for the whole weekend (including the wedding reception) and worked with us to plan menus that accommodated many different dietary restrictions. We used the air conditioned rec hall, waterfront, pool and campfire for various activities throughout the weekend. Each location was picturesque, calm, quiet and fun, and the camp made it easy, providing everything we needed from life guards, to kayaks, to firewood and more. Craig, Chris, Abraham and the entire staff at Camp Laurelwood are the ultimate "can-do" team finding a way to implement every idea we had. Their problem solving was put to the test with a few last minute obstacles and they rose to the occasion, making everything go off without a hitch (and we didn't even know about it until after the wedding!) If you're looking for a casual, no frills, mainly outdoor venue with solid food, rustic accommodations and built-in activities/entertainment, this is your place!
We had our wedding ceremony and reception at Camp Laurelwood in September 2018 and we could not have picked a more perfect wedding venue!! The camp was wonderfully accommodating and helpful in helping us plan and organize our Camp wedding. We had about 180 people for the wedding and around 60 stayed the night in the cabins. We chose to have our ceremony in the Rec Hall room in front of the beautiful stone fireplace, an outdoor cocktail hour under the trees, and our reception dinner and dancing in the dining hall. There was plenty of room for tables for 180 people and tons of dance space! The camp already has pretty lights set up but we added more of our own and the room was beautiful. The camp staff were amazing and had everything set up the way we wanted for our ceremony and reception layout. Everything went so smoothly on wedding day. The camp provided the food for cocktail hour and dinner - we did a Prime Rib buffet with a carving station and the Prime Rib was delicious! The camp venue was woodsy and laid back, just our style, and everything looked beautiful! We had a Smore's Bar and a fire set up near the reception space and we were all up late roasting marshmallows and hanging out by the fire. The next day the camp did breakfast and a lunch cookout for our guests who slept over. We truly had the entire camp grounds to ourselves for the weekend. The cabins are rustic but as long as you prepare your guests staying over with what they should bring (sleeping bags, pillows, warm clothes etc.), everyone will be happy! We mailed out a packing list the week before so everyone knew what to bring for their camp overnight. We did a lot of DIY with the decorations and the camp staff were incredibly helpful with making sure our vision came to life. If are looking for an affordable, flexible, and unique wedding venue in Connecticut, Camp Laurelwood is a wonderful option! Their people are the best and so easy to work with. Highly recommend!
