My husband and I could not have asked for a better wedding weekend than what we had at Camp Sacajawea! Thanks to James and Steve, our weekend was amazing! Not only did we have the wedding there, but we also were able to host the rehearsal dinner and Sunday brunch there as well since when you book you get a 3-day block. All of our guests found this venue super unique and fun! We were also able to have many guests stay onsite in the cabins as well. The venue was beautiful and overall we are so happy we found this place to make our wedding so magical!

We had the BEST time for our wedding. We didn't have a color scheme or theme at all because the venue basically is its own theme. James has so much decor included and it's all gorgeous on its own even without bringing your own items. James was also so helpful, available, and so kind the whole way through. We loved that it was our venue the entire weekend and we took advantage of the grounds for our guests & photos & archery & ax throwing. We loved it all!!!
Oh, and by the way, our friend was our officiant for our ceremony. We asked James if he knew anyone that had a suit of armor costume at all and he came through and provided us with one we could borrow for the day. Our officiant wore it the whole night and was stoked!

Camp Sacajawea was exactly what we wanted for our wedding and everyone had a wonderful time. My most appreciated aspects were 1) how James was so accommodating to show us the venue multiple times before the event and kept in contact via email throughout planning, 2) the fact that there was so much decor for us to borrow, and 3) that James and his crew took care of putting out the cake, watermelon, drinks, and they prepared the bonfire. There were a couple things, however, that negatively impacted our time there and made me lament how much we paid. For one, on the day of, there were so many things that I had bought that James and his crew failed to put out and use (i.e., the cake stand, plates and metal/wood sticks for s'mores), meaning that I basically wasted money on those. Another was the cleanliness of the venue--I fully understand that a campground will have dust, dirt, and bugs, but there was so much throughout the main building that required us to do some serious cleaning ourselves beforehand or else our guests were going to have to see that. This leads to the third and biggest reason why I give 3 stars....the cabins had a BIG bug problem. My husband and his friends wanted to stay the night before the wedding, but when my husband so much as touched the bed, tons of little black bugs scurried about. This threw a wrench in many people's plans, and we had to find hotel accommodations elsewhere. All in all, our experience was beautiful, but these are things about which I cannot help but be disappointed.
Any questions?

Camp Sacajawea is the PLACE to have your wedding. Camp Sacajawea is truly a special place and that is because of the people who oversee it. James and Steve have far exceeded our expectations and we’re so helpful in planning, setting up, and being available during the wedding! Our guests were blown away with everything the wedding and campsite had to offer! We had axe throwing, archery, live music, outdoor yard games, and more! The Camp offers a large outdoor tent, plethora of decorations, furniture, microphone, and more complimentary for couples to utilize. I can’t not recommend this Campsite enough!!

I’m a little delayed… My husband and I are celebrating our one year anniversary but we still remember how amazing James and Camp Sacajawea were for our wedding day! We loved everything about Camp Sacajawea.
It’s hard to capture everything we loved but for starters - JAMES! James was so great to work with. He was always very responsive and flexible. He helped us way more than he needed to. Let me mention that this venue is more DIY style, so make sure you know what you’re looking for. With that said though, James did SO much to help. He set up everything (tent, tables, chairs, canoes with ice, so much more). He let us use basically anything that he had available - tablecloths, chair covers, silverware, plates, wine glasses, etc. He even gave us access to his decorations that were donated from other weddings. We even asked to have a bar outside and he found one that he built years ago, and he fixed it up so we could use it. Just overall a really great guy & we couldn’t have pulled off our last minute wedding without him.
THE VENUE -
We had full access to the entire property (including the lake), for the entire weekend! That was so unique and special to us - being able to freely wander and enjoy the beautiful property. There were so many ceremony options since the property is so huge. Our cocktail hour and reception were set up outside in an enormous tent. The tent was perfect - it had lighting, heat lamps, concrete, a dance floor - everything you could ever need. And we loved that we were still surrounded by nature during all of this. We also had access to their kayaks / canoes so the day after our wedding, a lot of our guests came back to fish, which they absolutely loved! We also had a few guests stay at the cabins on the property, which was fun for some of our lower maintenance guests. The cabins are definitely more camping style (don’t expect anything fancy). We made sure our guests knew what they were getting into. There is also axe throwing / archery on the property which was so much fun! James helped us coordinate with the instructor to have both activities available to our guests during cocktail hour… our guests thought that was so fun and cool.
Overall - 10/10 for our experience! I highly highly recommend this venue if you’re looking for a semi-DIY style wedding with a rustic charm, really unique amenities AND that doesn’t break the bank!!!

First off, I can't gush ENOUGH about how amazing James (the site owner) was from the very beginning- showing us around, answering a bunch of questions, and really working with us and our budget. My now husband and I met at Camp Sacajawea, so it meant the world to be able to rent it for our wedding. We're both LARPers and wanted to have a unique, medieval style affair and boy did this deliver.
It was a HUGE help to not have to worry about decor, renting tables, a kitchen and restrooms, and having a place for guests to crash overnight. James only asked us to explain what we needed and we ironed out exactly what we needed to bring. We rented Thursday- Sunday, and from the time that we set foot he was there if we needed it, and often was on top and taking care of things I never even considered, like turning canoes into coolers and directing guests. The place looked amazing thanks to the decorations that he already had up, and we felt like a king and queen sitting in the throne chairs at dinner in the banquet hall. Not once did I feel overwhelmed thanks to both him and the amazing team I had.
Also a huge plus, James graciously allowed us to bring our flower girl and ring bearer- our four legged kids! Truly, it was the most "us" wedding I could have imagined, and I hope other people get to have their happily ever after here

Wow! We had the most amazing weekend with our friends and family leading up to the wedding, and then the most fun and beautiful wedding we could have imagined. The lake was immaculate, the cabins were comfortable, and the main hall and tent were gorgeous. Most of all James was an incredibly patient, competent, and helpful host (and coordinator)!!

We set up a time to meet James in person to pick a date, he was extremely kind and helpful throughout, giving us a tour and showing us different options on backdrops, as well as locations throughout the grounds for different ceremony/reception/dinner locations. We ended up choosing to do our ceremony in front of a wooden structure that we decorated with wisteria, and we had our dinner and first dance under the tent before moving everything inside for our dancing. We got a food truck to cater, and hired outside bartenders to serve our guests. Everything was a la carte for our wedding. We set up the date for June with James, and we chose all our vendors separately which saved us a ton on costs. Booking the venue was super easy and it was extremely cost efficient. We opted for axe throwing and archery for our guests during cocktail hour and our guests adored it! We got some awesome shots of family and ourselves throwing and shooting :) the tented area was the perfect size for our 120 guests, and the inside area was great for dancing. We had rooms available to us upstairs in the main building for the wedding party, and we were allowed the day before for set up and have our pre-wedding dinner. James was with us every step of the way, including the day of and he did everything in his power to make our day as perfect as possible! Because the venue is so large, we had a ton of little areas for different pieces of our wedding, including a spot by the lake to use for our separate first look which was so perfect and intimate prior to the ceremony. We had no issues, and the DJ was able to use wires and equipment to set up our ceremony music as well as our cocktail hour music and reception as well as speeches. We brought our own decorations but James also provided us with various decor options as well. Wedding planning can be extremely stressful, and my husband and I chose to plan everything on our own. James made our planning much easier :)

We had a Ren Faire themed wedding, and Camp Sacajawea was absolutely the perfect site. They already had almost all the decorations we could have conceivably wanted, and as a Faire, we were spoiled for choice when it came to areas to hold the ceremony itself. We went with the wisteria-covered stage, but we also had the option of the joust fields, or a beautiful lakeside area. While the accommodations are a bit rustic (it's a former girl scout camp), being able to stay overnight and just get ready on site in the morning eliminated a ton of stress. We also were glad that we took the archery and axe throwing add-ons: our guests had a blast, and it took a lot of pressure off of us for the cocktail hour. The bar area was also incredibly beautiful: there aren't many places that really feel like walking into a personal fantasy tavern! We really felt like royalty having our first dance in the medieval themed feast hall. Everything went smoothly when it came to coordinating with the other vendors. As someone who loves a good fairy-tale wedding, this was the perfect place for a happily-ever-after.

Having our wedding at Camp Sacajawea in Sparta was an absolute dream! Working with James, the owner, was so easy and he just made the whole experience fantastic. We had the venue for an entire weekend which gave us time to set it up just the way we wanted. Our guests loved the unique vibes and we got tons of compliments! This is not your ordinary venue, and it fit my husband's and my personalities perfectly. James and his team were a dream to work with, he is super flexible, extremely kind, and put in a lot of work to make sure our day went smoothly.
I only wish they had more bathrooms, after cocktail hour we had a bit of a line forming, but everything worked out fine.
If you are looking for a truly rustic, unique venue, a place that you can really make into your own, definitely check out Camp Sacajawea!

The venue, previously a girl scout camp, has been updated to reflect a medieval asthetic that is charming and romantic.
Having a wedding during a pandemic in November came with its challenges but James, the owner, was extremely easy to work with and very accommodating.
The main dining area is perfect for a small to midsize reception. Full control of the kitchen area made my mother-in-law's day. Easy to hook up to the sound system so a dj or band is not necessary, an ipod or your phone could provide the music, but if you opted for a band or dj, there was definitely the space.
There was a bar area to serve drinks, complete with goblets, and there were also other role playing spaces, such as stone steps and huts that helped complete the fantasy.

If you're the sort of couple that likes to do things your way and you don't mind putting in the work to make things happen, this venue is great for you. The owner is extremely flexible with any requests for using different areas of the campgrounds, and will help you transform it into whatever you want it to be. Do be aware going into this that it's a rustic, mostly-outdoors area so bring sturdy shoes. If you've got the time and you're willing to put in some work, this venue can really shine. Some of our guests had been to this venue before our wedding, and they all said they hardly recognized the place after we arranged things to our liking and put up our decor.

Best venue you can ever ask for for your wedding. No words can describe how amazing and helpful James was. And how much thought he puts into making this your dream day. I’d give it a million stars if I can. Thank you soo so much!!

The site is large, and easy to accomodate large groups. The main hall seats 100 easily, and more if everyone can be a bit close, and there's a convenient serving area / bar separate from the kitchen, which is attached to the main hall. In the Spring & Summer, the grounds are great for wandering, and great for photos as well. It's rural / rustic, while being close enough to modern civilization for any needs you may have.

Beautiful outdoor venue with indoor dining option that was perfect for my Harry Potter themed wedding. Had beautiful background for photos with the forest and lake all right there. Would highly recommend for any outdoor wedding themed!

Awesome place, private clean and great views. It was a very special day for me and my wife. I would recommend this place to anyone.
I have owned Camp Sacajawea since November of 2011. In September of 2017, my wife and I got married at the first Sparta NJ Renaissance Festival that is now hosted yearly at our venue. I will be more than happy to assist with any decor preparations for a themed wedding hosted with us. I had my magical wedding and would be thrilled to help others with theirs.
