Everyone at Castle Hall as fabulous. The staff anticipated all of our needs and exceeded our expectations in everything they did!! Also, our guests raved about how awesome the food was for days!
My husband and I got married on 12/15/2018, we held the ceremony elsewhere, but decided to hold our reception at the beautiful/simple/versatile Castle Hall. A week or so before our wedding, I got notice that I would no longer be working with the coordinator I had been working with, and instead would be working with Sara. I'm sure you could imagine my panic. There were numerous moving pieces to our reception, we had to move sound equipment, set up food in the Turret room, break down 5 tables halfway through the reception to make room for other activities and I had no idea if it could be done smoothly. Sara's organization, thoroughness, attention to detail, commitment to communicate with me and understand the itinerary completely blew me out of the water. One meeting with her and I could rest assured that she understood exactly what I wanted. There is absolutely nothing I would change about that night, and I cannot rave enough about how Sara and her team were SO professional, SO sweet, SO helpful, and beyond what I could've expected. I will stop ranting now, but you will not go wrong booking here and working with Sara!
We could not be happier with our choice to get married at Castle Hall in the GAR. (We did our ceremony and the reception there).
From the get-go, it was a perfect fit for us in every way.
It's a STUNNING building. It gives you vintage Detroit grandeur with clean, modern updates. Best of both worlds-- it is impressive/gorgeous but not overly distracting-- you can customize the vibe with your decor.
We got many compliments from our guests on the venue-- many have stated how memorable/enjoyable their experience was, which is a huge compliment. We got beautiful photos-- the GAR is very photogenic inside and out. (Plus if you get lucky like we did, you'll get a unreal sunset view, pouring through the windows over dinner!)
The event manager, MaryBeth, was attentive yet laid back. A perfect match for our style. She asks good questions and it's abundantly clear that she cares that you're happy. I loved the flexibility that the venue offers-- they're not some wedding factory with a rigid playbook-- you get to use the space how you want and select vendors that suit you. No stiff Wedding Package A/Package B, etc. This freedom allowed us to really personalize our wedding for us-- which was so important and appreciated!
I did splurge on a day-of coordinator (just to ease my mind), and our day-of coordinator plus MaryBeth were The. ULTIMATE. Dream. Team. I felt so well taken care-of by those two and everything went so smoothly. I knew I was in good hands-- I was able to be calm and present the day before and the day-of my wedding.
We had the best time at our wedding and I know the venue played a huge role in that. Highly recommend.
When I came across Castle Hall in my search for our wedding venue, I knew instantly that this was the one. The building is impressive and dramatic both inside and out, and the space was just the right size to fit our guest list -not to mention my favorite restaurant, Republic, on the first floor is available to cater events. Marybeth helped me throughout my planning process by answering all of my many questions, recommending vendors, and ordering rental items, and on the day of our wedding I was truly stress free knowing that we had covered every detail. The space, which was completely transformed during our cocktail hour, was absolutely perfect and beautiful for both our ceremony and reception. Marybeth and the entire staff at Castle Hall were extremely helpful and gracious throughout the evening, and ensured that I was 100% happy with everything. Needless to say, dinner was incredible, and our guests are still letting us know how much they loved the food and how perfectly the whole evening fit our style. I am so thankful to everyone at Castle Hall, and all of our vendors, that exceeded all expectations and brought the vision I had for our wedding day to life, and I truly got to enjoy every second of it. Thank you!!
Everything (and I mean everything) blew my expectations out of the water for this place. I cannot believe how incredible this day was. Despite the frustrations that come with wedding planning, I am so unbelievably happy that I chose Castle Hall Detroit for my wedding venue for the ceremony and reception. The place was unique, but familiar — sure, the space is very new as a wedding/event venue, but once they smooth over the details, it *will* be the place to get married at. I loved everything about getting married here, and I can’t believe how beautiful this place transformed to be. I knew when getting married that I was never one to do the church and boring, old reception hall route — this place had everything I ever wanted. Pair that with a kick ass caterer (Thomas’s Catering) and florist (Garden Fantasy on Main), the place just took my breath away. I’m sad my wedding day is over. I want to relive it over and over again. Thank you, Castle Hall Detroit, for helping me achieve this dream.
I don’t even know where to begin, start by saying that they completely ruined our wedding. I originally said I wasn’t going to write a review, but two weeks later after my wedding and still stewing about this. My fiancé planned our wedding there for nearly a year in one afternoon it was completely destroyed!!!!
To start off, myself and my bridal party walked into the hall & it felt like 100° AND IT WAS! We are married on September 15, 2018 & it was 85° outside that day. I had anticipated walking into a nice air-conditioned hall after exiting our Limo, but instead we all walked into a horrible humid hot bath of non moving air. The hall “given” wedding coordinator named Marybeth was a complete joke! Upon signing up Castle Hall Det you told her she would help coordinate everything once the wedding day was here— not only did she not do that, but she was dressed in the most hideous clothing with holes in her shirt and looked like she just rolled out of bed UNACCEPTABLE!
Not once did she apologize for the air conditioning being out I thought she would make it all better by giving us bottles of cheap champagne! My self and my bridal party were sweating profusely to the point where I was sweating all my make up off getting it all over my wedding dress!!!! It was completely unbearable in with one fan in the entire haul all of my guests were soaking wet EMBARRASSING!!!
The best part THEY KNEW THE AIR WAS BROKE THE DAY PRIOR TO OUR WEDDING— we had vendors there on Friday night setting up lighting that said the air was all done and it was unbearable—NO ONE THOUGHT TO CALL & TELL US THIS???? Also, while we are waiting to get married our wedding coordinator thought it was a great idea to stick myself and the girls in their produce cooler to cool off and my husband in the groomsmen in the meat cooler WTH? So imagine me going down lots of stairs, while holding the train of ny wedding dress in a very old & dirty building put in a produce cooler trying to cool off and spare any make up I might’ve had left!
And if things weren’t worse already, literally minutes before I walked on the aisle I had noticed that my girls & didn’t have our flowers— no one seemed to know what cooler they were put in when they were delivered. so within minutes of me walking down the aisle someone had finally found our flowers—our photographer never even got to take pictures of our flowers prior to the wedding —ARE YOU KIDDING ME? You cannot even make this stuff up!!!
My husband had went through all the work of hiring a four piece Courtet & many other wonderful surprises by decorating the hall so beautiful, which NONE I’ll these wonderful surprises could I enjoy because I was so mad I just wanted to get up to the altar get the wedding over with and get out of that place!!!!
I ended up speaking to the general manager Giovanni, he was very apologetic and did refund our money back for the hall, but there isnt enough money in the world to take what was supposed to be the best and first part of our wedding and make it okay—we’ll NEVER get to redo that part of our wedding and for that I will always hold a grudge against this hall. I would never recommend going to this Hall especially if Marybeth is still in charge as the vendor wedding coordinator!!
