When Dean and I first started looking at elopement photographers, we knew we wanted someone familiar with the Michigan and who’s style and editing we liked. We found that and more with Julie. Julie helped us navigate how to make our day exactly how we envisioned it and we’re so happy to say that the result was exactly that! She was always available for questions and provided insightful advice. I had shared my Pinterest vision board with Julie and I really appreciated how seriously she took the types of photos I like best, she showed this by asking questions about what I liked about the different photos and came into our wedding day with those things top of mind. While we came into our elopement trip with a detailed plan, we decided to pivot to a different hike than what we had originally planned and Julie was not only supportive and receptive but found us the PERFECT alternative. On the day of our wedding, Julie was quick to work getting all the crucial shots without us feeling rushed or stressed. She was highly organized and prepared and we had an absolute blast adventuring around and taking photos at picturesque spots on the shores of Lake Superior Not only was our wedding everything we ever dreamed of, but the pictures came out AMAZING. We love the photos all so much and will cherish them for the rest of our lives.

We couldn’t be more in love with our wedding photos! IN. LOVE. From start to finish, Julie was an absolute joy to work with. We did our engagement session with her as well. We are usually uncomfortable with photos but she is so goofy and easy to mesh with that we felt comfortable from the start. She captured every special moment, from the big ones to the little details we might have missed, all with such warmth and creativity. Julie’s ability to put everyone at ease made for natural, beautiful photos that perfectly reflect everyone’s emotions throughout the day. I cannot say enough positive things about Julie. I came across her work years ago before I even started dating my now husband, and have known since then I wanted her to photograph my wedding one day. As soon as I became engaged, she was the first vendor I called. The first thing you’ll notice about Julie is her professionalism with every little thing she does. She’s very communicative. Always follows everything up in an e-mail and provides more information than I probably even need. On the day of our wedding, several of our guests commented on how PRO she was at organizing everybody. She had a list and knew all the family members names, and organized the photography in a way that made it go smoothly. Her wedding day timeline that she created weeks beforehand made me feel very at ease that everything would be handled on my wedding day, and it was! A couple weeks after our wedding, we received our photos back and I was blown away. I knew I would love them but I didn’t even expect to have SO MANY that I loved. Our gallery consisted of over 350 photos for our elopement and I couldn’t even narrow down my favorites to under 100. I would recommend her services over and over again to anybody.

Photography was our number one priority and Julie did not disappoint! She made our engagement session fun and helped us loosen up and be ourselves. Julie is OUTSTANDING! I cannot recommend her enough! She has a bright and energetic, yet calming presence. She was focused on making sure we had a memorable day full of love and laughter. She let us have our private moments with each other and our parents while capturing from afar (something I wasn’t expecting). She had a clipboard with everything we had discussed prior to the big day and kept on schedule. I also must mention we actually had to fire our first photographer who was extremely unprofessional and unresponsive. I was frantic trying to find a new photographer and Julie completely put me at ease. She is incredibly responsive and assured me she would not treat us as the previous photographer had. The universe was looking out for us because I can’t imagine anyone else but Julie capturing our special day. A really special thing I appreciated about Julie was the detailed questionnaire we completed closer to the wedding. It asked many questions including things I hadn’t thought about yet. She also asked about family dynamics and used the information to capture truly special moments. For example, my mother passed away and I wanted shots of myself holding a photo of her. Julie took it to the next level when she shot from angles that included that photo of my mother in the background while I was getting ready. I cherish these photos and the heart that went into capturing our special day. We already decided we will be using her for future photos as we grow our family. No matter the event, hire Julie as your photographer and you won’t be disappointed!

Julie is an incredible photographer and organizational BEAST. My wife and I were feeling so overwhelmed when looking for a photographer for our wedding. When we came across Julie’s work, we fell in love with her photos of LGBTQ couples and knew we had to work with her. From start to finish, Julie was super organized and intentional about getting to understand us as a couple. She is a total goofball and absolute professional at the same time. Julie was FANTASTIC! She was friendly and made us feel so comfortable. Her and Brooke, our second shooter, got all of the amazing shots of our day and then some! I was a bit nervous all day with wanting to make sure everything went on time and smoothly and she was such a calming presence. I really hate asking for things or straying from a plan, so when I asked for extra or specific shots, and she enthusiastically said of course, it made me feel so at ease! On top of being amazing day of, we got our wedding photos TWO DAYS AFTER OUR WEDDING!! When we got the email I was literally speechless and shocked, I was thinking it was a sneak peak, but it was the WHOLE gallery! Working with Juie was fantastic. I initially chose Julie after reviewing the beautiful photos she had on her website and that were available online. Our engagement session was awesome and we loved that Julie just rolled with our goofy ideas. The day of our wedding Julie not only took gorgeous photographs, she became the all around wedding extraordinaire. Julie even helped out by running items from the bridal suite to the reception when we were beginning to fall behind on time. The space Julie picked for the first look was beautiful and the moment was wonderful. Julie and her team handled themselves in a graceful manner with a rather disruptive family member during the first look and family photographs. WOW Julie!!!! I was most excited about seeing the photos after our engagement and wedding days and she turned them around SO quickly. It’s like she didn’t even sleep!! She knew exactly the right angles and photos to take. Searched around the outside and inside of our hotel AND the venue for just the right shoot. Even took my wedding dress all around the hotel to get beautiful pictures. She made everyone feel like models with her prompts and fun nature. The pictures turned out exactly what I wanted. She really captured the love between my fiancé and I and the candid moments I wanted to see. I have received so many compliments on my photos already. I am so grateful we decided to hire Julie. I scrolled through ‘photographers near me’ for a very long time. As soon as I came across Catchfly Photography and saw her photos (and incredible reviews), I sent Julie an email & booked after our first phone call. Julie was… INCREDIBLE. Her entire process from the start is so detail oriented and thorough. Julie as a person was incredibly kind, outgoing, and easy to talk to. Julie as a photographer is extremely talented, dedicated, and will go above and beyond for your photos. Like she’ll fully put herself in a bush if it means a good picture. Julie was the best photographer we could have asked for. Right from the start she was super organized, had great communication, set expectations and got to know us. For our engagement session we had to reschedule twice and she made time for us as the seasons were changing and we wanted that warm weather feel. Fast forward to wedding day- she sent helpful reminders, was prompt and really helped us stay on time which was a nervous point for us. Her timeline was great and really helped the wedding go by smoothly. We always love a candid and I'm sure she captured them since I never noticed where she was snapping from, unless of course she wanted me to know. Julie originally photographed my sons wedding, so when we decided to renew our vows, I didn't even consider another photographer. Julie is so easy to work with, and I put her through her paces. We let her chose an area for an engagement session, and they turned out wonderful. I never would have thought of going where we did, but I'm so glad we did! I am not what you call patient, but I didn't have to wait long. Julie is so organized and helpful. Julie is so down to earth and easy to work with. I loved that she was so organized throughout our entire experience working with her. She sent emails periodically that kept us on track. Look: I don't write reviews often. But Julie is THAT GOOD. Seriously. She's been wonderful from Day 1. She did a phenomenal job on our engagement photos and was absolutely on top of it when it came time for the big day. I want to say that as a photographer I was VERY picky and worried about choosing the right photographer for our wedding. Every kind/amazing descriptor word in the book would not even begin to cover Julie's work. From my first phone call with Julie I knew we had hit the jackpot. Julie was so incredibly thorough when planning every detail in the best way. I felt so at ease throughout the whole process knowing she was on top of everything. Our engagement session was so fun and we felt so comfortable in front of Julie's camera. She is one of those people who you feel like you've known forever and she was AMAZING to work with. We couldn't have asked for a better photographer than Julie. She did our engagement photos and wedding photos and caught the two of us (and later, our guests) at the most natural moments—the exact kinds of photos she knew we wanted. And for the getting ready session, she wasn't afraid to move a couch and some chairs to guarantee the best lighting. She's like a scene stager, choreographer and photographer all in one! From the moment we exchanged our first emails to last night the evening of our wedding when she gave us hugs goodbye, Julie was an incredible photographer and just person to be surrounded by during our engagement and wedding. My now husband and I were blown away with her quick turn around with getting our engagement pictures back! Her communication was amazing, the timeline she created was perfect. I felt so comfortable and relaxed the day of the wedding just letting her take lead in what we needed to do. Julie was everywhere capturing all the big moments and little details. Additionally, she gave us an amazing recommendation for a videographer, someone she knows well and they worked together effortlessly. If Julie recommends someone, trust her!! They both went out of their way to set up the most beautiful couple portraits of the two of us out in the pouring rain! She may have gotten soaked with rain and also sweat inside from running around, but she did whatever she had to do to make our day incredible. Being the bride, there were a lot of moments I did not get to see first hand (our bridal party walking down the aisle, their grand entrances the audience during the ceremony) but I know with 100% certainty Julie captured all those moments and more than we will be able to relive together. Throughout the night I had people coming up to me telling me how amazing our photographer was, and all I could say was “I know!! She’s the best!” One of my relatives even asked if I knew her before or was friends with her because that’s just the vibe she gives off to her couples! The feeling of having known you for forever. My husband and I are still riding the high of our incredible day, and thanks to Julie, we will know how pictures to cherish and remember the day forever.

Julie was absolutely fantastic from start to finish; communication was amazing before we even booked with her. She followed up with great attention to detail, going over the timelines of the wedding and making sure everything flowed well. The actual wedding day itself was spectacular. From her easy-to-use portal for communication, having the engagement session for a first introduction, then the wedding day made smooth by the timeline created to alleviate stress - it was all a professional yet personal journey which we could not be more happy with! Having the photos available on the portal was a great way to sort through and choose the pictures that were our favorites, and receiving them in such a timely manner as well. Julie has that fun, happy personality with a brilliant way of calming everyone down and reassuring if there are any bumps in the road. On the wedding day she went out of her way running through the hotel to look for my mom when we wanted her in the room for the singing of the marriage license, which showed just how awesome her heart is and how much she cares! I will never forget that, and if I can say anything else about Julie Palmer’s Catchfly Photography it would be that her photos are STUNNING. The lighting, the positioning, the attention to details. Everything was perfect, exactly what you look for on the big day, which is to be in good hands and know that you are cared for and she will make sure everything will be great! If you’re on the hunt for a photographer for your wedding, do not think twice, and GO WITH CATCHFLY PHOTOGRAPHY!!! Julie was AMAZING to work with, the whole *almost* 2 years leading up to our wedding. I had SO many questions for her, whether it was something about personal life, vendor/venue suggestions (I contemplated changing venues and eloping SEVERAL times during planning because I was just so over it all, IYKYK), to timeline questions prior to our final timeline meeting, she was always there to answer them. She kept us on track with our timeline the entire wedding day, and in fact, we were ahead of schedule the majority of the day! I also loved how Julie got to know us on a personal level, which made us feel way more comfortable during both our engagement session and wedding, rather than someone just showing up to take photos of “just another couple that booked with them”. Our second photographer, Brooke, was so great too! I asked that she come an hour early to help our day flow a bit better and she was more than willing to. She met up with my husband and his guys, before our first look, to do their photos and stuck with us through dinner. Overall, Julie and her team are the best photographers to work with and you need to book with her ASAP, before she doesn’t have your date available any longer. I cannot wait to receive our photos back and see how truly beautiful they turned out!!

From the minute you get engaged, the wedding planning process becomes one of the most exciting but nerve-racking experiences you'll go through. If you are anything like me, it can be easy to get overwhelmed by all the different options there are. I stumbled upon Julie from The Knot's website, and I am SO glad I did. I loved how airy and natural her photos looked online (and the fact that she had full galleries for public viewing). One of my favorite things about her website was how detailed it was, seriously everything I could think of to ask she had already thought of and included. She also has guides to help you with your planning and was available for any questions or thoughts you had throughout the wedding planning process. Her communication via email, social media, and in-person are unmatched. Also, her timeline she sends out for the day of...*BEAUTIFUL*. My now husband and I are fairly awkward in front of the camera, but she always hyped us up and made us feel confident (this goes for the engagement session and wedding day). Julie was an absolute gem the day of the wedding, she gave so many good suggestions, kept us all laughing, kept us on a good timeline, and managed to make my intoxicated bridal party look put together in pictures. When picking vendors (especially one as important as a photographer) it can feel risky, as you are investing a lot of money. I hope this can ease your mind when I say she is worth every dollar and will give you the wedding gallery you dreamed of. We are forever grateful- you will be too!

So I can't begin to explain how wonderful it was to work with Julie. From day one, she was super organized and quick to respond to any and all of our questions. Both my (now) husband and I are super awkward people, and all our anxiety melted away at our engagement session. Julie was the first person I've ever met who was able to get us both to look natural and HAPPY in photos! We actually had FUN! Not to mention we received our pictures within HOURS of the session (and they were fantastic). Come wedding day, there were so many hiccups and delays with some of other vendors and Julie was incredibly organized, flexible and made us feel so relaxed - we got all the shots we asked for (plus so many more). She helped get us where we needed to go throughout the day and was such a calming presence for us. My absolute favorite thing she did was multiple times just quietly ushered me and my husband out of the crowd for a few moments to just be alone and really absorb in our day. I cried every time and honestly those were my favorite moments. I am so so thankful I had her by my side. Julie is worth absolutely every penny and you'd be crazy not to book her!!!!

If you are reading this review, the best thing you can do is go book Julie as your wedding photographer... ASAP! Julie was AMAZING!! I am so glad I stumbled across her page, and after talking with her, her personality sold her work even more! She is funny, organized, and thoughtful - among other things. We booked her two years out, since we knew right away that we had to have her as our photographer. From our engagement session all the way to the wedding, she was on top of everything. The place I had picked out for our engagement photos was one that supposedly you needed a permit for to shoot at. However, I had heard mixed opinions that the venue was/was not strict about this. Regardless, I asked Julie to take a chance and come with us there (and hope we wouldn't get kicked out, lol!). It all went to plan, and our photos were amazing and moody (it had just rained). I am so thankful she agreed to come with us that today, and we even got a sneak peek that night just a few hours later. As for our wedding, she traveled all the way up to Charlevoix with us. She was there at our venue the day before scouting out the area and picking the best areas for shots. There were some hiccups in timing between other vendors there that we had, but Julie rolled with it and made sure we got all of our shots in still. Her prompts that she had while taking our wedding shots were great, and had everyone laughing! Julie was in the process of selling and moving homes at the time we had our wedding, and we still got our photos just a few weeks later. I loved every single one of them, and was so thankful for her creative eye. We ordered an album from her, and can't wait to see what she put together in person when it gets here. I have only amazing things to say about Julie, and would recommend her to all of my family/friends!!

I cannot praise Julie enough, my wife (I get to say that now!) and I had the most wonderful experience with her. Throughout our engagement Julie always made herself available to us if we had questions or wanted to touch base about either our engagement shoot or the actual wedding. Her expertise also allowed her to give us WONDERFUL advice when it came to setting a timeline and picking venues and times for photos. To top it all off our photos turned out amazing (I cannot wait to see the rest of them!) and we constantly get compliments on the amazing work Julie has done. Julie has been so attentive from day 1! We first met during our bad ass backing trip in pictured rocks where Julie met with us to take our engagement pics. I knew then she would be a dream to work with! Those pics turned out awesome and everyone loved the fun gif she created! Come wedding day she was so awesome at getting the best shots at all times. Even through the chaos and outbursts she always had me as number one priority! She took the best care of me and my needs! I cant wait to get our pics back because I know they will just be beautiful! I don’t even know where to start! My then fiancé (now wife) and I were searching for the most talented/ badass, non-racist, non-homophobic photographer online. We had SO MANY photographers follow us on IG and didn’t feel “safe” booking them. We came across Julie’s page and immediately became fans of her work. She had 🏳️‍🌈 and ✊🏽 So I immediately felt comfortable sending her a msg. We chatted for a bit and scheduled our consultation. She BLEW US AWAY!!!!. She left NOTHING out. We were both shocked at how organized she was. Her contract was so thorough and we both didn’t even care abt how much she cost! We HAD to work with her. Julie also loves to travel and agreed to do our engagement shoot in DC (where we live). At that point we felt that God put us together! Through out or engagement- Julie really came through with her referral for a videographer, Brandon. She also gave us so many great ideas for our wedding- totally went over and beyond. The day of our wedding was a bit crazy! But she was the boss and was able to get all of our shots- no problem. Julie is absolutely the most amazing human and we are so blessed to have worked with her. Everyone should book with her. As a bride- shit is stressful and having someone by your side like Julie is such a TREAT! You won’t regret it.

Julie was an absolute dream to work with. Not only did I love everyone single photo she delivered to me, she constantly went out of her way to make sure my family, friends, husband, and I were taken care of. When coffee got spilled on my wedding dress in an elevator, Julie used the hem her own dress to soak up the spill from mine and saved the day. Her work is so beautiful, but her talent truly speaks for itself. She is so organized and professional. I was so impressed with how quickly she would respond to my emails! Julie is AMAZING!!! Our day was honestly stress free and we owe that to her!! She does so much more then just taking photos. Julie gives the ultimate wedding experience and if your like me you may not know what you need for your big day until you’re watching her work. There were so many things I never would have thought about and she had it covered. Julie works magic when it comes to details, timeline planning, correspondence, creativity, and ability to make posed photos look so natural (pretty much everything)! We did not do an engagement session with her since we switched to her service late in our wedding planning and thank goodness we did but I know we would have loved them just as much as our wedding photos. Julie was so awesome to have as our photographer!! From booking last year up until our wedding 6.4.22 she has been super helpful. She's sweet and funny and able to get you to relax and have fun with your photos. She's so organized and amazing at directing a rowdy bunch of people and managing time. Our engagement photos with her turned out so beautiful. She checked in periodically with us throughout our year of planning and closer to our wedding she was so helpful with timeline planning.  The day of our actual wedding she was amazing! She was prepared for anything and ready to help in whatever way possible to make our day beautiful. She was so great with directions. I think my favorite thing about her was she was so organized and that just eased my mind the day of. We received our wedding photos 1 week out from our wedding! We were still on our honeymoon, so we waited to view them until we got home.. which was super difficult. She was so quick!! The pictures turned out beautiful. We've received so many compliments on all the photos. They're definitely something we'll cherish forever since they captured the entire day perfectly. Choosing your favorite pics will be the hardest thing for you to do! We highly recommend Julie for any photography needs!!

I would give Julie 10 stars if I could!! When I did my research for our wedding photographer, I knew I wanted someone who was talented at capturing all the angles of our wedding and also making our photos feel natural and not overly edited. She worked so hard our entire wedding day to ensure she captured all the important details of our special day! Not only did she get great shots of my husband and I, but she also got so many great CANDID shots of our wedding guests. This is so meaningful to us so now we have these lasting memories of who was there with us on our big day! Julie's unique photo and editing style is beautiful and vibrant and she has a knack at finding all the great photo angles to feel like you are reliving your day when you flip through your photos. Can I also mention how fast she got our photos back to us? It was such a blessing to have them so quickly to start sharing with friends and family! I feel so blessed to have had Julie as our wedding photographer and recommend her to everyone!

I knew that I needed someone special who would help two introverted people feel comfortable on their big day. And Julie is that person!! For our engagement shoot, she came down to our hometown and we ran around to all of the places that were so special in our relationship. We immediately knew after our first time together with her that our wedding day was going to be special! Since we were getting married in the first week of May, we had planned a lot of the pictures to being inside due to weather. It just so happened that we had crystal clear skies and Julie ran around all morning finding us the perfect spots for outdoor pictures! At the end of the night, she said that she would have a surprise for us in a few days. Who would've thought that she delivered the WHOLE ALBUM TWO DAYS LATER!! I found Julie's website randomly on a Facebook group, and after looking at tons of photographers I knew I had to have her for my day. My husband and I are both introverts, and Julie brought this amazing energy for our engagement session and wedding day that made taking photos feel so natural and fun. We didn't have any idea what engagement and wedding photos entailed, and she guided us the entire way. She is extremely professional and knows what she's doing! She's super organized, super responsive, knows how to work seamlessly with videographers, and was an amazing person to have by my side all day on my wedding day. She has this natural ability to get these amazing shots during the important moments without you even knowing she's there. I think she also did the fastest turnaround in engagement session and wedding history by delivering our engagement photos the same evening we had our session, and our wedding photos in 2 days!! They were BEAUTIFUL, high quality and it was so amazing to relive the moments so quickly afterwards, especially since our honeymoon got delayed after testing positive for covid. Julie is so sweet and has continued to check up on us the weeks after our wedding. I will recommend Julie to absolutely everyone because she was just so amazing to work with from start to finish, and I hope we get to work with her again in the future!

It was exactly what I wanted and more! The little things, comes prepared for the 'detail shots', catches me and my grandma holding hands, fixing my flower girl's hair, me and my mom crying looking at each other. Julie was great! We had both our engagement and wedding pictures with her. She made sure to capture the pictures on the list we put together before the wedding. She actually took the time to come up with a timeline to make sure she captured everything we wanted. Julie adjusted to the COVID restrictions in place during that time. I have followed Julie since she started on her photography journey and knew 1000% she was who I wanted to be my photographer when I became engaged to the point that I saved for a year for the deposit. She is a fabulous photographer and was incredibly helpful despite all the curveballs thrown our way on the wedding day. She even jumped in to help blow dry my sister's hair while my sister was doing my makeup because we were running late! Despite me being late and us having to move the wedding inside due to rain she still got some beautiful shots. If I could give Julie six stars, that still wouldn’t be enough – she is the most talented, friendly, incredible photographer a person could possibly work with. I originally hired Julie to do “surprise” proposals pictures, and she – despite not knowing the area or having met either my now-wife or I in person – took incredible photos that perfectly captured the moment. From then on, we knew that Julie would be the person we’d be working with throughout our engagement and wedding for photos. She is infectiously friendly, one of the best communicators I have ever met in my life and has an incredible skill for capturing natural-looking photos rather than a bunch of overly-posed shots. Neither my wife nor I had much in mind in terms of how we wanted our photos to look or shots we “had” to get, but Julie helped guide us through a timeline (that she made!) of our wedding day to help us think about what we might want at different times to make sure we really got everything we wanted. Julie is also an incredible family member wrangler and kept everybody in line and where they were supposed to be throughout the often-challenging portraits section of the day. Not only did she perfectly capture both the most important moments and most important emotions of our wedding day, she did so with crystal-clear, perfectly edited photos (despite a bit of a dark venue!) and delivered them to us incredibly quickly. Julie also proved to be an invaluable vault of knowledge about other vendors – she recommended both our wedding DJ and hair/makeup artists and both of them absolutely exceeded any expectations we might have had about them. In sum, I literally cannot recommend Julie highly enough because we could not possibly be any happier with our experience with her. We will, without a doubt, be continuing to work with her for any future photo needs we may have because we really can’t imagine anyone doing a better job!
