He will make you feel comfortable in front of a camera, which shows in the final product. For our engagement session, he traveled out of state and arrived an hour early just to scout shooting locations. On our wedding day, Derek and his team not only stuck to our time-crunched schedule but also came up with some amazing suggestions of places/poses to shoot that I would have never thought of myself. We were thrilled when we checked social media the very next morning and Derek had already posted a "sneak peak." We received the rest of our photos three weeks later, and we couldn't be happier with the results. Derek captured every moment perfectly- from the formal family photos in the church to the candid shots on the dance floor. We have gotten so many compliments about them from our friends and family. Highly, highly recommend! You will not be disappointed!

Derek and his assistant (I think his name was Jason, I feel bad that I don't remember exactly) arrived at the wedding and just got to work! He didn't need someone to tell him what to do nor did he stand around waiting for someone to tell him what to take pictures of. When my husband and In first met with him, we basically just said said yeah we need some pictures. Derek pulled out some of his other work and gave us all kinds of ideas! He even took time to drive my husband and I to a new lighting exhibit downtown to take pictures and went as far as to lay down on the street just to get a good picture. Yes, this guy cares so much about his work he is willing to lie down on the city streets of Pittsburgh. Really nice guy and just an overall amazing photographer. You can tell he is passionate about his work and doesn't look at his events as just another paycheck. Also, it isn't like he left our wedding and we haven't communicated with him since. Even before finishing all our photos, he posted a few on his instagram! Most photographers leave your event and tell you that they'll let you know when your photos are ready, but not Derek. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! I promise you will not be disappointed.

On the day of, Derek and his second photographer Jason were well prepared with the list of pictures we wanted. They truly helped to keep everything going smoothly and running on our desired timeline. Derek and Jason worked seemlessly together, and fed off each others excitement for different pictures - we absolutely cannot wait to see our pictures, despite historically not feeling particularly photogenic! tos the day my husband proposed to me and after seeing the photographs I knew that we were going to be using Chase Images again. We booked another photo session with Derek for our Engagement photos. Derek is so easy going and willing to meet us anywhere we wanted to go. We got our Engagement photos done in Mellon Park and it was great because Derek had shot there before so he knew what time would be good for us and he knew the areas that would look the best. We loved our photos so much that we hired him again for our wedding! He captured our wedding day beautifully. We got married at Saint Mary of the Mount and he took amazing shots in the church, outside the church, and on the outlook. Chase Images did an overall wonderful job and now my husband and I are having trouble narrowing down all the photos we want to put on our walls! I would highly recommend to anyone getting married around Pittsburgh to hire Chase Images!

odate our timeline and wishes throughout the day. Super flexible, very polite, and well-dressed for the occasion! Additionally, we found our finished gallery to be consistent and well-edited. Our venue was unique—not an upscale joint by any means… but the images that Derek turned around made our perfect day look like a high-end affair that belonged in a magazine! The pricing is absolutely comparible with professional photographers in our geographical region and we felt we got a fair value for the pricetag. I do have a few remarks that we found in our experience with Derek: You’ll need to evaluate whether or not Derek’s stated timeline will work for you when you’re thinking about your finished images. You’ll get a sneak peek image, and then the contract says 4-6 weeks for a finished gallery. Ours took 7 or 8 weeks. With regard to timing, Derek does not only do wedding photography, he enjoys photographing abandoned properties and cityscapes as well, so you may see some of those peppered in with his social media posts prior to receiving your edited images, as was the case with us, which didn’t make us feel like a priority. If you’re not in a major hurry for your gallery, this isn’t a big issue. Derek’s second shooter on our big day was a gentleman named Chris, who is also super talented! You’ll be lucky with any second shooter Derek chooses to work with, as you can clearly see from his portfolio that all of his second shooters fit SEAMLESSLY into his photography/editing style. Due to the all-male-shooting-duo, however, we didn’t get any feedback regarding aesthetic details while we were shooting --in some images I feel like my face could have used a blotting sheet, in other posed images I didn’t feel as though we hit the right angle/pose for a flattered silhouette. These are obviously nitpicky items to me, who has experience shooting and editing, and certainly were not an overwhelming issue, and did not affect the majority of our shots. Aside from the timeliness of the gallery and my picking apart a couple technical items like poses, we found no issues with Chase photography and I would certainly recommend them to any bride in the area who wants beautiful, timeless images. Our gallery perfectly captured our happiness and we will cherish our images for as long as we live. Derek is great to work with and I hope he continues to photograph weddings for many years to come.

During the weeks preceding the wedding, he kept me on track as to what he needed; he made sure I was going to get what I wanted out of his photos! The day of, we made plans for him and his second shooter, and they stuck exactly to the timeline. They were incredibly prepared, and their equipment seemed to be top notch to me. They knew exactly what shots to get in the short amount of time they both had prior to going to the church for our ceremony. I cannot tell you how impressed I was with Derek and Jason all day long. I felt completely at ease and didn't have to worry about one thing. I'm a very picky person, and like I said before, Derek pays as much attention to detail as I do. He photographed every important moment (somehow, he's fast!) and from different angles. They're very creative in making opportunities for photos happen, which is not a quality that all photographers have. It is apparent that Derek is incredibly enthusiastic and loves photographing weddings especially. He takes his work seriously! I am extremely grateful to the both of them, as I have over 800 photos to enjoy for the rest of my life with my husband!

en notice his crew was even there which i loved and thought was very impressive. They captured so many special moments without me even noticing their presence which was great. We also did first look photos with my husband and I and my dad and I. These photos I will treasure for life and am so glad they recommended to do because i will never be able to go back in time to re-live those moments but i will have these pictures forever. What i loved most was that during the reception a few times, Derek pulled us out of the room because he saw a great opportunity for a picture because of the lighting. The fact that he was able to be taking pictures during the reception and cared about taking more outdoor photos meant a lot to me. At the very end of the night we took a few photos in the dark with a spot light behind us that turned out absolutely beautiful. At that point I was tired of smiling but I knew that whatever Derek had in mind was going to turn out amazing! I could not have imagined anyone else photographing my wedding. When I realized I forgot to ask him for some specific shots he went through his raw files and found me more images. He then sent us a really nice custom usb drive of our images that looks like a classy keepsake. I would definitely recommend him!!

I don't think it was more than two weeks before we had access to a professional gallery online. We knew after the engagement photos that Derek was definitely the photographer we wanted for our wedding. Derek brought an assistant to help shoot the wedding, Jason, and together they were a dynamic duo. We haven't yet seen the full gallery of photos, however, we have seen some teaser photos as well as all of the photos from our receiving line and they are AWESOME! My husband and I could not be more pleased with Derek's work. capture.He was on time every time we met before the wedding and on the wedding day.He and his assistant dressed appropriately for the occasion.He doesn't hide pricing from you, and what you see is what you get.His contract is simple and to the point.VERY IMPORTANT is that you and him jointly retain the copyright on the photos.Derek is essentially not charging you for the extra photographer. There are other photographers that include an "assistant" in their price, but most times, the assistant does nothing besides lug around equipment.The assistant he brought to our wedding provided some helpful ideas from a photographer's perspective because he does work independently as well. Also, Derek was willing to be flexible with the price based on the services provided.When it rained on our wedding day, he empathized with us and offered to do the inside reception photos.He also offered a free photo session at another time and location/s of our choice if we didn't want to go through with photography in the rain.He is very open to new ideas about poses and locations.He is even encouraging about thoughts you have, so if you are thinking of detailed ideas for your dream photography session, I am confident he is able and willing to make it happen the way you want. He is willing to go to as many locations as you want for the time you hired him. He also doesn't charge any travel fee if I am remembering right.He has a grasp on the equipment he uses, and the quality of the photographs is amazing.I observed him change out lenses and cameras multiple times throughout the day for different environments.He was able to get high quality photos inside the reception venue, which was a challenge.All of my family members and friends that took photos had them come out grainy and/or with really poor focus because the room had such a unique combination of natural bright light and warm artificial light.Derek was able to get great shots in the reception room, and I'm so glad because his photos are really the ones I have to remember that time by.I also believe he is a thorough editor.I was really thrilled with how he made the colors look and clarity look.He was creative when interacting with the large bridal party at Kooser Park. He had our online album and blog done within a month of the event. And, the photos are still available online for viewing and ordering. This was important for us because we didn't have the budget to order prints right after the wedding.There are ways that Derek goes above and beyond to be professional and take the day seriously.He used almost all of the time available to work.During dinner, he ate and then took pictures of the rings and venue.Derek sent us the USB of our photos with an unexpected gift-a matted and printed 8 by 10 of one of our photos and a thank you card for letting him be a part of our wedding.My only complaint focuses around him not speaking up about details that could have made the photos better.For instance, he photographed the gown before I put it on, and he didn't notice or didn't say anything about the fact that it was on a plastic hanger. I was too busy doing makeup to think about artful details like that, and I wish we would have switched it out for a wooden one.

My husband knew Derek from his non-wedding photography and when I checked out the Chase Images website, I saw that Derek puts just as much talent and passion into weddings as he does the rest of his work. Really, the Chase Images website and blog speak for themselves--a picture is truly worth a thousand words. We received several hundred digital images from our wedding on our Chase Images thumb drive, and every one was beautifully shot and subtly edited. Not only were the photos everything I could have hoped for, but working with Derek was a pleasure as well. He was both extremely professional and laid back. Our wedding party was running over an hour behind schedule, and Derek was able to blow through our photo shoots in half the time we had originally allotted to get us back on schedule--and the results were STUNNING! I am not terribly comfortable in front of the camera, but Derek told us exactly what to do for gorgeous photos. He was unobtrusive during the ceremony and reception, but got all the right shots. I couldn't have asked for a better photographer, or a better value--even after paying for travel expenses, Chase Images was significantly less expensive than similar vendors in Southeastern PA.
