I very recently had my wedding at the Cheney Mansion and we had an amazing experience. What a beautiful place to host a wedding ceremony and reception. We were lucky with the weather and were able to use their outdoor spaces for both ceremony and reception. Our guests enjoyed exploring the indoor space which we used for dinner and the bar. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would recommend this wedding venue to anyone looking for a magical venue with lots of vintage charm.
As a native Oak Parker, I grew up going to the Cheney Mansion for family photos and daddy-daughter dances. While my husband and I were unable to have our wedding at the Mansion because of our larger wedding size, we were able to take STUNNING photos at Cheney before our wedding ceremony in Oak Park. The Cheney Mansion staff was so easy to work with in getting a photo permit for the day, and allowed us to use so many of the rooms and outside grounds for photos. The photos were beautiful, and we are so happy to have had this historic piece of Oak Park be a part of our big day! For anyone looking for a unique, classic place for wedding photos, Cheney is an excellent and easy choice!
We cannot recommend Cheney Mansion enough!!! Hilda was amazing to work with and treated us so kindly. We were an LGBTQ+ couple, and Cheney always made us feel welcome and accepted. We wanted two aisles so we both got to walk down, and Cheney happily accommodated that.
I fell in loved with the mansion, so classic and warm. It was the perfect choice for our intimate wedding! The coordinators Tricia and Santa were amazing! If I have to do it all over again I will choose Cheney Mansion Again! Thank you all for making our day perfect and sweet!
My experience with Cheney Mansion as our wedding venue was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we chose this picturesque location, it became clear that we had made a perfect choice. Cheney Mansion, along with their wonderful coordinator Susan, went above and beyond to make our special day unforgettable.
One of the standout aspects of Cheney Mansion was the beautiful property. The team's ability to bring our vision to life was truly remarkable. We used the greenhouse for our first look and the pictures were breathtaking. The garden is well tended and gorgeous, the getting ready rooms are spacious and bright, and the patio and solarium are just perfection.
Throughout the day, Susan, our point of contact, played an instrumental role in ensuring that everything ran smoothly. Susan's dedication and professionalism were evident from the beginning. She went above and beyond her duties, taking on tasks like fixing broken decor without hesitation and receiving dessert at the door. Her ability to welcome guests and make them feel at ease was truly remarkable. Susan also seamlessly communicated with our other vendors, ensuring that all aspects of our wedding were coordinated flawlessly.
Perhaps one of the most commendable aspects of Susan's work was her ability to help us stick to our timeline. Weddings are known for their tight schedules, and Susan managed it with finesse. She accommodated last-minute changes, like adjusting our plans due to the heat, with grace and efficiency. Her adaptability and problem-solving skills were invaluable in making our day perfect.
In conclusion, Cheney Mansion provided us with a wedding experience that exceeded our wildest dreams. Their kindness, professionalism, and creativity were second to none. Susan, in particular, deserves special recognition for her outstanding efforts in ensuring our day was flawless. If you're searching for a wedding venue that goes the extra mile to create a magical experience, look no further than Cheney Mansion. Thank you to the entire team, and a heartfelt thank you to Susan for her exceptional work and dedication. Our day wouldn't have been the same without you.
I can't say enough great things about Cheney! We had a small wedding, only about 50 people, and the size of the venue was perfect. We were able to use multiple locations on the property for our ceremony, pictures, dinner, and reception. Both outside and inside. We were also able to get in early to do some getting-ready and detail photos. The staff is very professional and is there for all the details before and during your big day. They ensured our vendors had what they needed, and the evening progressed smoothly. The only unfortunate side is there is only street parking, and the venue is not totally handicap accessible. It wasn't an issue for our wedding, but be wary for yours depending on the size and guests.
Cheney Mansion was the second venue we toured and we immediately fell in love. It was the perfect fit for our wedding and Tricia was amazing to work with.
Everyone was so helpful throughout the planning process and made sure our special day went smoothly.
We couldn’t be happier how everything came together. Admittedly, at first, I was worried about the amount of space for a seated dinner but it was perfect for our 65 guests.
Additionally, all of our guests could not stop saying amazing things about the space.
They do have a list of preferred caterers (which is common for venues) - I recommend maybe looking into the other preferred options available other than Premier.
I would happily recommend Cheney Mansion to everyone.
We are so glad we had our wedding and reception here! It was the first place we toured and we fell in love with the historic charm and cozy space. The professionalism of the employees here, especially Tricia and Sue, is unmatched. They are both so kind and helpful, answering all our questions and making sure everything went exactly the way we envisioned.
Things we loved about Cheney:
-you can have your ceremony inside or out!
-it’s BYOB which means you can buy your own alcohol or order it from Binnys and the bartenders will serve it. Saves SO much money by not paying per person for an open bar
-the staff are incredibly nice and helpful. Having them took so much stress away!
-there is a bridal getting ready room AND a groom getting ready room. Other places we looked at had no space for the men.
-the rooms have their own personality and design!
-the history of the rooms and building
-so many gorgeous photo backdrops inside and out!!
-ballroom for dancing upstairs! So people who don’t want to dance can mingle downstairs
-great options for caterers!
-staff was super flexible and able to adjust things as needed
Overall, we would highly recommend Cheney. There was nothing we didn’t love about having our wedding there!!
We had our January 2022 winter wedding at Cheney Mansion. The venue is absolutely beautiful and was exactly what we were looking for in terms of a vintage setting. We originally planned our wedding for around 100 guests, ended up with about 65 (thanks Omicron variant), but to be honest 65 was probably the perfect number with a little more room to spare for an indoor wedding in this space. They can accommodate larger parties for a seated dinner indoor wedding, but your tables will end up being in different rooms (which for us wasn't a huge deal), but if you're looking for a really cozy intimate wedding 65-70 is probably the perfect amount. And I'd still recommend it for bigger groups too and they obviously can accommodate much more in the summer months using the outdoor space. Either way, it's a beautiful unique space, the staff were helpful, and we enjoyed working with their recommended catering vendor as well.
Cheney mansion was a wonderful venue for our wedding. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. The house is an historic mansion that has three floors full of many of the original furniture from the family that used to live there. Our guests had such a fun time wandering between the floors and hanging out in the antique rooms. The ground floors are empty and can be filled to your desire, however. For us, it comfortably fit our 100 guests.
The staff were also great to work with. We were hesitant to have an outdoor wedding, but they cultivated an indoor and outdoor plan with us and our caterers ahead of time and they were both prepared to make either happen on the day of the wedding. It was such a beautiful day, so we were able to have the ceremony and reception outside. It was more beautiful than I could have even imagined. The vibes of the house and the outdoor patio, especially at night, were amazing. We highly recommend this venue for a wedding!
The staff at Cheney are the absolute best in the business. The mansion itself is incredibly gorgeous -- we barely even had to decorate it! The location is perfect because it is right between downtown Chicago and O'Hare international airport. They are true professionals who made our wedding day nothing but enjoyable and stress-free. They communicated easily and readily with not only with us but also the many vendors servicing our reception. I really appreciated the flexibility and true kindness the staff showed before and during our reception. They anticipated and met our needs before we even had a chance to ask in many cases. They provided a completely viable Plan B in case of inclement weather, which put all my worries aside. The weather turned out beautifully, though, so we got to enjoy the immense and lush outdoor space. If you are looking for a beautiful venue, the best staff, and a stress-free planning process, go to Cheney!
We cannot say enough great things about Cheney Mansion. It is a one of a kind venue. Everyone at our wedding raved about the Mansion and really had a good time!
The Cheney Mansion was an amazing venue! The staff was super helpful and responsive throughout the planning process. Susan runs a great program there, and we would highly recommend this is a unique and one of a kind location.
When my then-fiance and I left Cheney after visiting and touring it for the first time, we said that the other venues we visited would have to be over-the-top amazing to beat out Cheney as our reception venue. Needless to say, they did not, and we held our reception at this gorgeous mansion in Oak Park.
Kakie was our contact from day one, giving us the tour initially and running the event day-of. She is warm, personable, extremely knowledgeable, and has so many cool stories about the house's history.
One of the main reasons we picked Cheney is because we had to do little to no decorating. Kakie told us that she likes to say the house is a "gorgeous old lady who dresses up well too" - you can put as much or as little effort into decorating as you'd like. We had a couple little things here and there, but mostly we relied on the charm of the house.
And the gardens. The gardens are gorgeous. I can't wait to see the pictures we took all over the grounds. And if your weather is nice, like ours was, your guests can play yard games- bocce ball, bags, croquet. (The mansion has a croquet set, but you can bring the others to play with).
Another plus- all tables and chairs are included, unless you end up needing more than what they have on property. The ones they had were plenty for us, a reception of 100 people. We needed one extra highboy, I think.
The only wrinkle in having a wedding over 80 people here is that only 8 tables of 10 will fit in the main space for dining. However, the other 2 we had were just off to the side in a room that connects and opens up to the big room. Where we placed our sweetheart table, that room could see us clearly. No one's feelings were hurt, and everyone had a great time.
This really was the perfect place to have our wedding reception. And if we weren't getting married in the Catholic Church, I would have had the ceremony at the mansion as well. Overall, I can't say enough about the look of the venue, but more than anything, the people running the show there are fantastic beyond words!
