With tables, chairs, and decorations from a flea market and a handful of family recipes, The Cherry Laurel opened its doors in 1990 by two best friends. With their husbands and six kids between the two of them, Bonnie Wilson and Linda Ingram set forth to transform a dilapidated house into a cozy restaurant that beckoned their patrons' return. Offering homemade soups, salads, and sandwiches, The Cherry Laurel gave the citizens of Athens, Texas a casual and unique dining experience. In 1997, a local bakery owner announced her retirement, but her loyal customers didn't want to lose such a wonderful resource for birthday and wedding cakes. Upon contacting Bonnie and Linda, The Cherry Laurel Bakery came to be. Soon to follow their Catering boomed, and as they say, the rest is history.

Butter rum cake with butter rum icing is the best cake ever!! Cherry Laurel made a beautiful cake, listened to everything I was wanting & brought my ideas to life.

Stunning Cakes and Amazing Brunch I really cannot say enough about Linda and Bonnie… they are truly a couple of wonderful women and my family and I thoroughly enjoyed working with them on bride and groom cakes for our wedding, as well as brunch for the day after. We ordered a butter-rum cake with fresh strawberries in between the layers and a buttercream icing on top for the bride’s cake and we did individual cheesecakes with a shortbread bottom (instead of the usual graham cracker) and chocolate covered strawberries on top for the groom’s “cake”. Both of these were absolutely incredible! They bride’s cake was absolutely STUNNING and both of them were by far, the best cakes my (now) husband and I had ever tasted. The brunch the next day was so fresh and tasty- eggs, bacon, biscuits, cinnamon rolls, and fruit! It was really a pleasure working with these sweet ladies… I really can’t thank them enough for playing such a big part in making our fairytale wedding a reality!

We had them cater our sides for our wedding. While the food was absolutely delicious, communicating with them was incredibly difficult. I’m sure going to their restaurant is wonderful because the food is great and they are as sweet as can be. However, I don’t recommend having them cater a large event being that planning was difficult.

Unbelievably OUTSTANDING! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this bakery for wedding cakes! We had a naked butter rum and the ENTIRE cake was eaten (never seen that happen at a wedding). We also had carrot for the grooms cake that was out of this world good! THANK YOU BONNIE!!!!

The cake was absolutely perfect! I did not order the traditional style because I ended up saving $400. We bought 3 of the largest cake rounds and asked them to make the decorations beautiful like wedding cake. $120 later, we had the most beautiful and delicious tasting cake ever! Butterrum cake with buttercream icing...you just can't go wrong

the best cake i have ever had still eating it and dont care it is delicious and was beautiful, did the buttercream icing on butter rum cake and thought i was in heaven!!!

Cherry Laurel will design anything you desire! They also let you sample the cakes so you know what your guests will taste! Delicious! Even tasty after being in the freezer for a year but they include a complimentary 1 year anniversary cake!
