About this vendor
Chief Hosa Lodge, designed by architect Jules Jacques Benois Benedict became the city’s first mountain lodge opening in 1918. Using timber and stone from the immediate area, Benedict designed the lodge to blend into the hillside. He named the lodge after a Southern Arapaho tribal leader who was given the honorary title ‘Hosa’ by the Ute tribe, which meant ‘peaceful and beautiful’.
Featuring sweeping views of the Continental Divide, along with its stone and log construction, the Chief Hosa Lodge is the ideal venue for a rustic Colorado wedding and is a National Historic Site.

In October, my daughter and her (now) husband decided they wanted to get married in December during our big family ski trip to Colorado. We were so excited she we found Chief Hosa Lodge! It was gorgeous, historic, rustic, available, and affordable! We ended up with almost 50 family members making the trip to Colorado and Chief Hosa Lodge was perfect!
I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because there was a miscommunication which added a lot of stress the morning of the wedding. About a month before the wedding, we changed our reservation times because we wanted to take pictures outside after the wedding before it got dark. This was not communicated to the on-site consult, so when we arrived, no one was there to let us in causing us to get a late start. The on-site consultant was very apologetic and allowed us to extend our reservation if needed. The on-site consultant was amazing the entire time! He even took a group photo for us since my niece was our photographer.
A beautiful location to have a DIY wedding! Prices are super reasonable and the staff is really helpful with making recommendations for other vendors. I was happy to have both indoor and outdoor options in case of bad weather, and some gorgeous views for photos. It's also easy to access for out of town guests, right off I-70.
We had our wedding here in early April and it was just so beautiful and wonderful! We got married on the windiest day in Colorado and had to change the outdoor ceremony to indoor. Mark, the facility coordinator, was just so helpful and kind throughout the whole process, especially with backup plans for the indoor ceremony. Truly made it very easy and helped make our day so special and smooth. The location is very convenient and the venue itself is very aesthetic!
We recently had our wedding at the Chief Hosa Lodge and it was a dream come true! We did the open house initially with Mark and he was so kind and reassuring and answered all of our questions so it made booking the space a no brainer. We did the walk through before the wedding with Dalton and he was so thorough with everything we might even potentially need. He answered the questions for my photographer and clearer very professionally and kind. The day of the wedding, we had Dalton help with set up and support. He was early and had tables and chairs already set up, it really set the tone for an stress-free day! Clean up at the end of the night was a breeze and the whole crew pitched it. Once we get our pictures back, I'll be sure to update this review because it was just magical! Thanks to the whole State Parks crew of Mark, Dalton and Thomas! I couldn't have asked for a better venue and better people to help support us making our dream come true!
Some details: We had about 65 people total including bartender, photographer, etc. We booked On The Rockies Bartending (we got all of our drinks from Costco) and Brother's BBQ for catering. A friend of ours was our photographer. We did not have a band or DJ but instead set up speakers with a playlist. We booked it for 2pm-11pm and saved the last hour for clean up. Ceremony was at 5 and we had plenty of time to get ready before show time.
Cheif Hosa is a beautiful venue, and Mark was so wonderful with helping us coordinate where to put tables, food, the bar, etc. We absolutely loved the rustic feel and the charm of the lodge!
The event coordinator was amazing! The space was perfect!
It was a dream getting married at Chief Hosa! Such a beautiful and historic venue - perfect for a rustic, mountain wedding. Affordable too, especially if you get married on a Thursday like we did - it was half the weekend price!
This venue is extremely outdated, and you will need to clean / dust before you can start setting up for your guests. Also, their staff will allow and ENCOURAGE potential customers to tour the venue while you are having your event! They stated, “It is okay to go see it and we can even enter the back door, so no one knows.” Imagine having a wedding reception and having complete strangers walk through your event with tape measures! DO NOT RENT HERE!!! Decorating is extremely limited here per their rental policy and Denver Parks and Recreation will never respond to you within a timely manor (email or voicemail).
Chief Hosa Lodge was a great place to get married! It's in a beautiful setting, is affordable, includes tables and chairs, and the staff was nice to work with.
We loved the venue. The views were breathtaking and the lodge itself was so beautiful! This venue fit our budget and it was very easy to work with James and the parks department. We were so happy with our experience at Chief Hosa Lodge!
We had our wedding early September, I was happy with the venue we used it for both our ceremony and our reception. It is located in a beautiful part of the Rockies. Only bad thing was that it was at times difficult to get in contact with the people to make payments.
All of our guests loved this rustic location for our fall wedding. It set the tone for our night with a roaring fire, exposed wooden beams and a buffalo head for that Colorado touch!
This is probably the most beautiful venue in Colorado; especially for a rustic mountain wedding. Our ceremony was at sunset overlooking the valley. I couldn't have picked a better place. HOWEVER dealing with Jim at the Denver Parks office was almost enough to make us change our location. He never returned emails or phone calls and forgot to put our rehearsal on the schedule. You decide if you are willing to take the risk.
We had our September wedding here and the staff was fantastic and the venue is so gorgeous! All of our guests thought that it was Perfect and it comfortably fit 70 Guests.
My husband and I went to several venues before choosing Chief Hosa. We loved it because it fit both of our personalities and vision perfectly. It is in a beautiful location in Golden, CO and is surrounded by trees and nature. The perfect background for our wedding ceremony and the lodge is perfect for the reception! It gives out of town guests the Colorado mountain feel without having to drive to Breck or Vail although we absolutely love Breck and Vail too. Logistically, this worked well. We had a rustic chic wedding and it was so much fun! The lodge itself was a good size for our 85 guests. It is a smaller venue so you probably don't want more than 100 people here. You could but it might be tight. Jim Johnson was great to work with. We had no issues only good things to say about Chief Hosa.
Chief Hosa is an amazing location to get married at. It was beautiful and unique, and the weather held our beautifully for our big day. My only complaint would be that they say it holds up to 125 and we had just over a 100 and it was definitely full. I don't see any way you could actually fit 125 people in there. We even had to move tables to make room for the dance floor. That being said, no one was bothered by it and we had the best time!
We held our reception here at Chief Hosa. It was absolutely beautiful and unique. Jim from the City of Denver was terrific to work with. Definitely will only hold 128 or so, and still a little tight with that many. But an incredible location.
Our caterer had a free tasting at Chief Hosa and I fell in love with it the moment we pulled in the parking lot. It's rustic, historic and cozy. Jim from Denver Parks and Rec was easy to work with. He explained all the policies and charges before we signed anything, so there were no surprises. On the day of the event, the road and parking lot we plowed (it had snowed 10in two days before), the sidewalk shoveled. Kim was our onsite coordinator and very approachable. There was one spot that needed more shoveling and she went right away and took care of it.
The location is gorgous! My husband wanted mountains and trees and Chief Hosa delivers. You don't even notice the interstate down the hill, making it very easy to access. My only complaints would be that the floor was really dirty (but could be from all the people coming and going setting up) and my husband mentioned the men's bathroom was dirty and hot.
I loved the space most of all. It's a classic 'Colorado' feel and it has so much history. It is cozy with fireplaces and allows for an outside ceremony and inside reception. The lodge also has a great back up inside 'Chapel' room in case of weather. It was absolutely perfect!
