About this vendor
Christ Episcopal Church is a one-of-a-kind wedding venue in Albemarle, NC. We are known as the beautiful rock church on Pee Dee Avenue, offering a spiritual, intimate, and memorable venue for your wedding. Our building is made of native bluestone slate, quarried locally in Davidson County, North Carolina, and is ideally situated on our campus. Our interior is cruciform with dark wooden floors, beams, and pews, and together with our stained glass windows, especially the triptych altar windows, one feels like a church in the English countryside. Our simple but distinct chandeliers provide an additional layer of character and intimacy to enhance your photographs and video recordings of your special day.
The cornerstone was laid on June 23rd, 1940, which signaled the first permanent home for The Episcopal Church in Stanly County. Previously, the congregation, first organized in 1896, had met in parishioners' homes and other area churches. You will be married in a church listed on the National Register of Historic Places with the United States Department of the Interior. Christ Church has been a pioneer in serving Albemarle, Stanly County and Montgomery County. We established a food pantry in a closet in Gehrig Parish House in 1975, now operated by Stanly County Christian Ministry.
Our church, including the Oxford side chapel in the north transept, can comfortably seat 125 guests. Our surrounding grounds offer many settings for outdoor photographs. The Gehrig Parish House offers a parlor for the bridal party downstairs. Groomsmen may use the library upstairs, which has a separate entrance so neither bride nor groom see one another until the wedding ceremony.
We have a large yard beside the church that can accommodate a tent for a reception if you choose. There is ample parking adjacent to the church, on the street, and in an upper parking lot.
Gehrig Parish House offers a hall that can accommodate your guests and features a completely furnished kitchen that you or your caterer may utilize. We have tablecloths that you may use.
Our location in the historic district allows you and your guests to explore shops, restaurants, and the beautiful countryside. There is a bed and breakfast directly across the street whose information we can provide on our preferred vendor list.
As part of his spiritual and priestly obligations, our rector, Father Chipper, would like to meet with the couple at least a month before the ceremony. This can be done in person, preferably, or virtually. He requests that the couple attend a worship service here at least once before their ceremony. He is also available to officiate at your ceremony if needed.
