My fiancé and I were very excited to plan our wedding at Cliff Bell’s. We had previously been in contact with Michael, the Director of Operations, after having initial discussions ...
in 2024 about a potential wedding in 2025. We ultimately decided to wait until 2026, and when we reconnected, communication was initially prompt, with responses within 1–2 business day.
During our in-person meeting, our time with Michael was limited, and the tour was primarily led by Calvin, the General Manager. There appeared to be some tension between the two, though we did not place much importance on it at the time. At the conclusion of the meeting, Micheal provided the cost breakdowns and next steps and were encouraged to take time to consider moving forward.
After the meeting, we stayed for a drink and spoke with Calvin for about 30 minutes. He was welcoming, attentive, and made us feel genuinely valued, which left us very excited about the possibility of hosting our wedding at this venue. We also felt comfortable with the bartender and she provided that she was excited for us.
Unfortunately, that meeting marked the last communication we received from Michael for approximately a month and a half. Despite multiple follow-up emails and phone calls—during which we were repeatedly told that Michael would be in contact—we received no response. After reaching out once more, we finally received an email that simply stated, “We have decided to pass on your event.”
There was no explanation, no acknowledgment of the prolonged lack of communication, and no professionalism shown in the handling of what is a significant and emotional decision for a couple planning a wedding.
While businesses are not obligated to accept every event, leaving potential customers without any response for weeks and then delivering a blunt rejection without context is unacceptable. At minimum, clear and timely communication should be expected. For such a large financial event, it seems absolutely strange to simply provide no reason for the event being declined.
In reality , we don’t want our wedding overseen by an operations team that doesn’t honor and respect people’s wishes or time the same way we do. In addition we don’t want to subject our family to this type of service.
***edited to add***: We spoke with the owner, Paul, on 1/9/26. While he offered an apology, it felt disingenuous at best. He attributed their lack of communication and difficulty managing events to “post-COVID” challenges and “the holiday season,” yet confirmed they would continue hosting weddings and events, just not ours. Given the inconsistencies and the outcome of these conversations, we were left with the unsettling impression that Cliff Bell’s may only be interested in hosting white couples.
Overall, I loved having my wedding at Cliff Bell's. I was looking for a venue to fit 100-150 guests, include catering and bar on-site (so I have two less things to coordinate), and...
that had a vibe different than a banquet hall. This venue hit all of those and more! They also have all the tables and linens you need, a stage to get married on (if you choose), audio equipment, decor that doesn't need anything more added, ability to bring in your own cake/desserts and hookups with local jazz acts that can set your day apart. It was so convenient and beautifully executed. The only downfall would be the sometimes spotty communication, but they always eventually got back to us and were happy to just meet up to nail down logistics. I have to say the thing that topped everything was the food during the wedding. I have heard from so many guests that this was the best Filet Mignon they've ever had, which is impressive since the kitchen made nearly 80 of them total. I loved that they were even willing to accomodate my vegan guests who said the dish was amazing. Great experience overall and I'm so happy with our choice to get married and have our reception here.
Having our wedding at Cliff Bell's was one of the best decisions I made in the course of wedding planning. Their staff (especially Carolyn, Director of Events and Marketing), were ...
helpful and responsive throughout the entire planning process. They put up with and answered all of my off-the-wall questions and ensured that the event went flawlessly. I doubt I would have had time to get anything to eat or drink during all the greetings, but the staff of Cliff Bell's ensured I was able to try all of the hors d'oeuvres and repeatedly fetched me drinks from the bar. The food itself was the best wedding food I've ever had--delicious spring rolls, savory grits, and even a signature cocktail that we selected to capture our theme. They were also very cognizant of my worry regarding food allergies and limitations, so that every one of our guests was able to leave full after a delicious meal. (Every one of our vegetarians who attended sought me out to tell me it was the best wedding they ever attended since they could not only eat, but enjoy, the food!) Additionally, there was no problem bringing in our own cakes and desserts, and no add-on fees for things like cake cutting.
Honestly, I can't recommend Cliff Bell's enough. I feel like every bride thinks her wedding was perfect, and with Cliff Bell's help, I am no exception.
This is typically a restaurant, not a banquet hall, so the ambiance reflects that. The event planners are excited and eager to work with you to create the exact event you want-- d...
own to floor layout, food selection, bar package, and so on. This was the star of our wedding-- everyone raved about it. The servers and bartenders were wonderful as well. Cliff Bell's comes with my top recommendation.
