Another reviewer called this Boston’s hidden gem venue, and I couldn’t agree more! The grounds are absolutely stunning and the prices are very fair, it’s shocking that it isn’t mor...
e popular! We had our wedding here this past October and all of our guests were taken aback by how stunning the venue is! It’s been months and it’s still the number one thing our guests talk about — it was just so stunning and has classic New England vibes! The Italian Garden is the perfect backdrop for an elegant/fairytale ceremony and the carriage house is a great spot to keep the festivities going. If you need to rent a tent for your event, make sure you get that price upfront so you know what to expect! Working with Patrick was such a breeze, he’s so responsive, kind, and caring — I couldn’t have asked for a better venue coordinator! Truly a gem!
The Codman Estate is the hidden gem of the greater Boston area. Our guests said that they felt transformed out of Massachusetts with the lushness of the gardens and the almost secl...
uded feel you get in the Italian Garden. Having our ceremony there was out of a dream; intimate yet not small and gorgeous but with the focus still on us at the end of the aisle. The lily pads and the sound of the frogs added something special to the day.
We were so excited to get married here. The Italian Garden was a stunning ceremony location. We got married in late September and the garden was still blooming. This property was g...
reat for pictures between the lawn two gardens and carriage house. Patrick was great to work with and very helpful with vendor recommendation! We would highly recommend.
We had a lovely June 2022 wedding at the Codman House, and loved working with Patrick from Historic New England. He was very responsive, always cheerful & enthusiastic, and eager ...
to collaborate with our wedding coordinator to make sure everything was squared away. We appreciated the flexibility of the site (for rain contingency plans, a sprawling cocktail hour, and lawn games that drew as many guests as the dance floor did!). We didn't take advantage of all of the tables/chairs that they had in their inventory, and wish that we had had a better understanding of the true costs of Peak tent rental/setup (which was on us, not Codman), but overall it was still relatively economical for greater Boston. The actual day was beautiful!
Everything about our experience working with Codman Estate was wonderful.
The grounds were beautiful and provided many options for ceremony and family photos. The Carriage House ...
is gorgeous and comes with decorative lights that add to the celebratory vibe.
Before the wedding, Patrick helped us through every step, responded quickly to our messages, and made us feel genuinely supported. On our wedding day, Patrick and Maura handled every detail such as working with the caterers, coordinating the arrival of guests, and ensuring no one who was not part of our event entered the property.
We were a bit concerned about the limited catering list but found several great options, even though we required a fully celiac-safe menu. Additionally, this webpage says there is no onsite dressing room -- there is a room in the Carriage House that functioned perfectly as a dressing room for us.
We are so delighted we chose Codman Estate and you cannot beat this excellent price!
Patrick and the Codman Estate team was a dream to work with. It was the first venue we visited and kept comparing everywhere else to the beautiful grounds an scenery of the estate...
. It is so beautiful with countless photo opportunities to be had and the grounds have such a calm and peaceful energy. We loved the carriage house as soon as we saw it and had so much fun dancing the night away. Patrick is such a lovely and warm person, he was wonderful to work with and so helpful throughout the planning process. We were so happy to have him and his team there the day of the wedding as well. The Codman Estate was the perfect place to begin our marriage!
Our wedding was early August and we were very lucky to have a beautiful hot day. We rented a tent to set up next to the carriage house for shade and in case of rain.
I loved th...
at Bill Blanchfield, the functions manager, was experienced and understanding and that the place had gorgeous plantings and flowers so I spent nothing on decorating the ceremony site. We put some Gerber daisies on the tables, but nothing else was necessary. The site fee was very low in 2013- the market price for this gorgeous site should definitely be higher. They have a limited list of caterers and we used Capers. They were great. All in all, I couldn't have asked for anything more beautiful.
Codman was a great setting for our wedding! We did the ceremony i n the Italian Garden, cocktail hour in the meadow, dinner in the tent, and dancing in the carriage house. The folk...
s at Tastings were great to work with and made sure everything was perfect. At first I was concerned that the site had a caterer list but it worked out nicely as they all know the site very well and can speak from experience. Special thanks to Bill at Codman for answering all of my questions!!
We used the Codman Estate for our reception only. For our reception, the dance floor was inside the carriage house, which we connected a tent to for our sit-down dinner. While othe...
rs may not like the disconnect between the house and the tent, we actually loved it because people who didn't want to dance could sit inside the tent and just hang out. We also loved the grounds and were able to have lawn games at our wedding. The estate was beautiful. There was just a couple of drawbacks: when we were taking pictures in the Italian Garden, there were so many mosquitoes that were attacking us; also outside the carriage house where the tent was set up, there is gravel on the ground, which made it harder for some people (specifically woman in heels) to walk around on. Lastly, it was super easy to work with Bill, the venue manager. He always responded quickly to emails and made sure our day went perfectly.
This was the perfect venue for our casual, but elegant outdoor wedding. We had been looking for a venue that would create a relaxed and intimate atmosphere, but still be elegant en...
ough for a wedding and not so rustic as a barn or cookie cutter as a hotel. And the Codman Estate was perfect! The beautiful grounds, especially the Italian garden, are lush and green and were great for pictures. The carriage house with a tent outside was the perfect size and atmosphere for dinner and dancing. The Codman staff were very helpful and easy to work with. It was affordable and the rental fee goes to a good cause, preserving the historic property. And it includes a one-year membership to Historic New England. Also, they let us use some string lights and paper lanterns they already had set up in the carriage house, to save a little money, which was great!
One thing you should know is that if you are having a summer wedding, like we did, the carriage house does not have A/C. They set up fans, which helps, but it got quite hot. But that didn't stop us from having fun! Just something to know.
Probably the most unresponsive staff out of all of the vendors I worked with for my wedding. Several voicemails and emails to sales reps go without an answer for days. Just a heads...
-up, the "event coordinator" on site the day of your wedding really doesn't do anything either.
It's affordable in comparison to hotels or other banquet halls, just be sure to budget for a tent (which can run a couple thousand dollars). You also save on the liquor since Gordon's in Waltham will work on consignment.
In the end, the place was ideal because we really, really lucked out with fantastic weather. It was 75 degrees, peak foliage, which made for great photos.
The Codman had everything we were looking for -- a gorgeous, secluded garden for the ceremony, lawn and flower garden for cocktails, barn and space for a tent for the reception. I ...
loved getting married here, and felt like we lived there for a day!
However, the coordination with the site coordinator was very difficult -- there were miscommunications between the Lyman estate and the Codman and it was unclear who I was actually working with. Needless to say, their disorganization caused a lot of extra stress in the weeks leading up to the wedding.
Despite the less than stellar management, though, I'm so glad we got married here!
We were married at the Codman Carriage House in late spring. The grounds are beautiful, and the Italian garden, which is where we held our ceremony, is spectacular. We wanted an ou...
tdoor garden ceremony and a reception site that was low-key but classy, and the Codman was perfect. Nancy Cahill, who unfortunately is no longer there, was extremely responsive and gave great suggestions on catering, msuic, and ceremony setup. It's a beautiful and convenient location, and the site rental fee is extremely reasonable compared to other venues that we saw (even including a tent). There are several caterers who have experience with the location to choose from, and you can bring in your own liquor, which is great.
Codman was wonderful in all ways. The Italian garden was beautiful for our end of July wedding, as was the meadow. After a lovely ceremony we had a cocktail hour in the meadow an...
d then into the tent for dinner. As we had several children coming, we provided outdoor toys for them and ended up having a wiffle game in the meadow, which the groom played with gusto! All of the workers at Codman are fabulous, specifically Nancy and Demi. Both were very helpful and on top of all vendors and what needed doing. Especially considering the cost of renting, Codman is a great value!
Codman Carriage House and Gardens is a beautiful outdoor venue. The italian garden is what sold me and its a perfect setting for a romantic outdoor garden ceremony. The venue is d...
efinitely do it yourself. The Carriage house needs alot of love and decor in order to spruce it up. So as long as you are creative, the space is great. The venue is very accommodating and friendly as long as you follow their rules of no taping or nailing decor. Be warned that its a very hands off event coordinator. Do not expect them to help with the flow or help planning in anyway. They basically just rent the space out and you do with it what u like. The event coordinator is there to make sure the doors are open and that you don't destroy the historic property and thats about it. Cost is very affordable for a wedding venue but be sure to include the cost of a outdoor tent if you plan to have more than 60 guests.
This venue had my guests ranting and raving throughout the whole night of our wedding. The grounds are so beautiful and the Italian Garden where we had our ceremony is by the most ...
amazing place for a ceremony. Our reception was held in a tent attached to the carriage house and definitely had a casual, laid back feel to it. We picked this venue because we could pretty much do anything we wanted and could bring in our own caterer. We could also bring our own alcohol so it cut down on costs of the open bar. My only complaint is that our day-of coordinator wasn't the same woman who worked with us during the whole planning process. The day-of coord wasn't as good as I thought she might be. If you want a casual outdoorsy wedding/event, this is the venue for you.
We had our ceremony in the Italian Garden - an oasis of flowers, water, and singing birds. Cocktail hour was hosted in the meadow, behind a stone wall. Our reception was held in ...
the carriage house with an adjoining tent. We received countless compliments on the location - everyone said it was just perfect. The venue was very easy to work with. On the day of the wedding there was a slight miscommunication between the site coordinator and others who worked at the location, but that was sorted out with minimal trouble. I would highly recommend this venue.
