We at Convergence have been choreographing first dances for over 30 years and have found that there are many ways to create that special and unique first dance.
The most popular option is a series of private lessons. This is easy and goes straight to the matter as you can schedule all of them at your convenience and work exactly the way you want to. These lessons are also available online for those who travel for work or couples that are not always in the same city as we are.
The second option is a combination of group and private lessons. It is the most cost-effective and relaxing way to prepare for that special moment and when time permits it is a fun date night. Getting married is such a special event but preparing for it can sometimes be stressful. Take a date night, relax, enjoy each other.
Either option can help you create something totally unique and memorable. We would love to have a small part in that. See you on the dance floor!

- Oritza RodriguezInstructorOritza has danced all of her life and very lucky for us, has danced her way to Saint Louis and Convergence! She is from Cuba and has just recently immigrated to St Louis. Having been classically trained in Ballet, Modern and Folkloric dance, Oritza has a profound understanding of how the body is capable of moving. She danced for 6 years at the Tropicana Club in Havana Cuba, and has taught and performed in China as well as in Russia. She is super friendly and excited to be working with students in all styles of dance.
- Robert McKenneyInstructorRobert McKenney started dancing competitive ballroom at the age of 10 with his mother, Roxanne Maier. After a brief hiatus, he returned to casual social dancing at the age of 14 by dancing Salsa rueda de casino and never looked back. Trips to Argentina to study with masters, competing with students in ballroom, or just teaching people how to improvise and have fun in their local dance community became his passion. He loves sharing the joy of movement and music with people no matter what their goals. He believes dance is a tool to connect to music, ourselves, and one another in a unique way. Robert dances professional Latin with his partner, Hanna Pierce. He has travelled extensively over the last decade to Argentina to study with top teachers like Luciana Valle, Pablo Inza, Gustavo Naveira, and Giselle Anne. He regularly trains with top coaches in ballroom, such as Igor Pilipenchuk, Kimberly Mitchell, and Marton Cawson. He aspires to share his joy of the connection, puzzle, and music of dance with everyone he meets.
- Roxanne MaierInstructor/OwnerRoxanne Maier is an accomplished coach, choreographer and certified GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® instructor. Through her experiences as a former professional competitive ballroom and Latin dancer, choreographer, business owner and movement educator, she has comprehensive pedagogical knowledge of Ballroom and Latin dance as well as deep understanding of classical dance. Her knowledge of how two bodies work in tandem also translates well to how one works with Gyrotonic equipment. Roxanne is a certified Gyrotonic Level 1 trainer, Level 2 trainer and certified Gyrokinesis instructor. Ms. Maier owns and operates her own dance studio and Gyrotonic exercise studio with her chiropractor husband in St. Louis. When not moving in the studio she loves to read, play with her pony sized dogs and be creative in the kitchen.
- Deepika GomesInstructorDeepika found her love of dance on the social dance floor with salsa and bachata, and there was nostopping that adventure from there. She went on to train and compete in Ballroom Competitions (inIndia and the U.S.) and finds immense joy in sharing her art, be it with performances or education. Shehas taught various dance styles over the last 5 years, that include Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Jive, Salsa,Bachata, Merengue, and Swing. She endeavors to find joy in movement, and connection, and seeks toshare her passion with all those she meets. Deepika is an architect by profession, enjoys acro-yoga, andloves spending time with her two gorgeous cats – Professor Mewriarty and Ser Jaime Lannispurr.
- Liz SchwarzkopfInstructorLiz Schwarzkopf started dancing at the age of 5, beginning with ballet, tap, jazz, and modern. She got hooked on Lindy hop in college at Creighton University where she danced with the Omaha Jitterbugs. It was there that she fell in love with the music and was inspired to learn other social swing and blues styles. She later danced with Cyclone Ballroom at Iowa State and learned Argentine tango, salsa, and various ballroom dances, as well. She has also competed and performed with the STL Live Wires. Liz has studied and trained in the art of tango for the last 6 years and has studied with many of the master teachers and dancers of this generations. She has participated in tango intensives in Argentina and is a beautifully expressive dancer. Liz has since become fluent in all of todays most populars social dance forms and is a great teacher. She loves helping others move confidently and rhythmically and enjoys spreading the joy of dance. When not dancing, Liz works as a scientist at a biotech startup and can be found baking, knitting, playing with her dogs, and climbing beautiful rocks.

uctor, and final dance! We came into this with, by no exaggeration, NO abilities to dance, we just wanted something that was better than a 7th grade dance! We were blown away with what our instructor, Janny was able to do! She was so helpful, kind, and encouraging! She helped us every step of the way including final song choice (we narrowed to a few but she helped us select the one that would be best to dance to), meeting us at our experience level by trying a few different dances, but settling on what we were most comfortable with and looked the best doing. She did a great job with skill progression and gave a homework to do each week (which was also fun, we used both the classes and practice as little date night experiences). By the time we came back to our fifth and final class, we had a dance that looked like the real deal. We felt so good about it and had the best time at our wedding! We really surprised our guests and many people stated how great our dance was. I cannot recommend Convergence and Janny enough if you are looking for dance studio and instructor. From two people with four left feet, we loved everything about it and our final dance! Thanks Janny!

a beautiful choreographed first dance. We worked with both Roxanne and Robert-- Both awesome, fun people and extremely talented. I was so impressed with the way they explained things, their patience, and their talent. Outside of an awesome first dance at our wedding that we'll never forget and received so many compliments on, we had so much fun every week at our dance practices. They made this experience so fun and special from start to finish. We'd like to go back someday for some just-for-fun dance classes since we had such an amazing experience with them! Would recommend to anyone. They really work with what you want-- whether that's a few classes to learn some basics, or something more elaborate like a full choreographed dance.

ould take lessons and impress everyone with some choreography at the wedding. We weren’t very good at it, but it felt comfortable and it was a really fun experience. I feel like Robert made it really easy, and we learned so much in such a short amount of time. Everyone at the wedding was super impressed, and a lot of guests said it was the best wedding dance they’d seen. I also felt like it was really reasonably priced compared to the other places I looked into. Eric has asked to practice the dance even after the wedding, and it’s just a fun activity and memory to make together. Thanks Robert!

somewhat comfortable on the dance floor on our big day. And we honestly had a blast. Our instructor was super nice, kind about our frequent mistakes, and knew that we weren’t going for perfection. My husband actually had a great time, and it was a fun to learn a new skill together before the wedding day. We chose to do their 5 session package and it was perfect. We did a Rumba, which I didn’t ever think we’d able to do, and we had so much fun. It was simple with some extra flourishes, but we got so many compliments for our guests. And most importantly felt comfortable and confident when all the eyes were on us on the dance floor.

on with Garth that we bought a 10-class package. Even though my fiance was initially skeptical about dance lessons, Garth won him over and I am very thankful for that! Garth really taught us how to dance, rather than just choreographing a dance. This helped our dance look really natural on our wedding day and helped us breeze through a mishap with our DJ playing the wrong part of the song. When Garth was sick, Robert filled in as our instructor for our last 2 lessons and helped us clean up the dance, add some flair, and enhance the intro and final dip. So thankful to both instructors for helping us create these amazing memories. We still dance around our kitchen. Highly recommend Convergence for any couple getting married!

Week after week it felt like everything was coming to us easier and easier. We barely even practiced away. We would do some steps about 3 times a week while our food was cooking or just had 5 minutes to spare.

learn a waltz with dips/spins/leans. It was partially choreographed which was perfect for us because if we missed a certain step, we knew how to pick back up and finish where we needed to. We always looked forward to our lessons and it was such a fun way to connect and relax during the midst of wedding planning. Everyone has complimented us on how good our dance was! We really surprised/impressed our guests & we had so much fun together, which Robert always told us was all that mattered! He was incredibly professional, talented, and encouraging. He'll grow more "stern" as you get better as a dance student, just as he'll be more gracious when you're a beginner. He has his way of teaching, but will also adapt if you bring something specific to him that you want to learn to do.
If you learn anything, you’ll learn how important keeping someone out is and how effective dinosaur puppets are at helping you feel like a princess.

l time manual wheelchair user and it is no easy task to create a dance that works and doesn’t look cheesy. No cookie cutter dance routine would have worked for us. Hanna Pierce was our choreographer and brought together such a unique dance that fit our style. I am so grateful for finding this place and Hanna!

n entire dance routine to fit our needs! He listened to what type of first dance we were envisioning and what level of comfort we had in achieving more complex moves. He also was a great teacher. Each week we would slowly build concepts and by the end of our 10 lessons we were very comfortable with all the dance moves and it felt like second nature. Looking back on our wedding, our first dance was my husband and I’s favorite part of the entire day! Without Garth, that would not have been the case at all. 10/10 would highly recommend it!

t moving. Our instructor, Robert, was an incredible teacher and very kind. Robert helped us co-create choreography for our first dance that felt natural, fun and totally reflected our personalities. In addition, Robert taught us some combinations that we were able to use to dance to all of the other music on our playlist. Our weekly lessons became our date night and we really enjoyed practicing in our living room between lessons. Robert, Hannah and Roxanne each seem personally invested in our wedding and cheered us on as our dancing began to improve. Our flowers will wilt and my dress will be stored in the back of my closet, but dance skills are something we can carry with us through life! We are so grateful to Robert and the Convergence team for going above and beyond for us! And, we've already signed up for group salsa lessons when we get back from our honeymoon!

He was our greatest cheerleader through the good, the bad, and the ugly, and it was obvious that he really wanted to help us learn.
