Not pleased I have to write this review, but working with Stephanie for my wedding was not successful at all. It was by far the most stressful aspect of an otherwise fabulous day.
...
First and most disappointing--my bridal hair, a low chignon, fell out before the ceremony. The pins came loose, and no matter how hard I tried to push them back into place, the look gradually became more and more sloppy. The bun fell lower and looser every minute, large pieces of hair fell out, pins were visibly poking out of the bun, and the loose pieces in the front looked frizzy and messy. I had to pull it out, heat up the curling iron, and throw my hair into a pony tail 30min before walking down the aisle.
Additional points of consideration:
-my face makeup didn't match my chest and shoulders, which is very visible with my off-the-shoulder dress neckline
-we had agreed on an 8am start time at the hotel to allow enough time for my 3bridesmaids to have their hair makeup (4hair, 3makeup including myself), and Stephanie texted me at 7am to say she'd be there at 10am. I had to beg to get her there at 9am, and we finished an hour late. It set us behind for the entire day. She finished the last bridesmaid at 1:30pm.
-one of my bridesmaid's updo fell out within an hour!! before Stephanie even left!! So she had to go back and get it fixed, but even with the re-do, this bridesmaid had to take her "updo" out before the ceremony because it fell out again
-Stephanie constantly cancelled or misremembered when our trial was supposed to be. This should have been a red flag, but I'm usually pretty mellow about my personal beauty routine, so I wasn't super hardcore about this vendor. That was my mistake--I should have trusted my gut, swallowed the deposit and found someone more professional. I had originally tried to schedule my trial before a party in May, and she cancelled. So I tried to reschedule before my bachelorette in July, but she wrote the day down wrong, so I had to choose a Monday. When we finally did have the trial, it was at her parents' house, so there were dogs/cats/kids around. She took a photo of the trial look on her phone, which had pretty effective filter--she texted me the photo and it looked way different than what my face looked like in person. Made it hard to ask for tweaks for the day of...
-After the trial, I kept worrying about the volume of the chignon (it was pretty small and basic), so I asked if I could bring a weft of hair that she could pin in to improve the look of the chignon. She said yes, but it would be an extra $50 to install a clip-in. Not ideal, but I wanted the volume. I bought it, but on the day off, the clip-in weft was the first to fall out. She clearly didn't do a good job of incorporating it, even though I paid extra.
Ultimately, before I wrote this review, I expressed all these concerns to Stephanie privately and asked for a refund. I wanted to give her an opportunity to make it right before blasting her online. I believe in small businesses and creatives, and I wanted this to work. She responded by offering me a voucher for a free makeup application, and then when I declined, threatened me with litigation for slander.
I feel embarrassed that I asked my bridesmaids to trust her. I am disappointed that every photo of my wedding day will have my mismatched skin, and I am angry that I had to do my own hair because the look I asked for didn't make it to the ceremony.
Brides, beware. This isn't a vendor you should skimp on..
Stephanie did my makeup trail for my bridal shower, she was very accommodating. Her work is really good, very natural and she made adjustments to my liking as we went along. I love...
the eyelashes she uses, very natural. I had a good amount of critiques I emailed her afterwards. She addressed all my concerns the day of my wedding! I asked for a more dramatic look for my wedding. I have oily skin, and my makeup was flawless until we went home at 2am! My mother and mother in law looked so natural and just incredible! Stephanie is very sweet and can work with anyone!
Of all my wedding day vendors; Stephanie receives one of the highest (if not THE highest) praise for delivery. I knew I was taking a risk with her not having done a makeup trial. ...
I had exhausted this part of my budget on another vendor that I decided not to go with. Stephanie agreed instead to a phone call from me and answered all of my questions unwavering. Her recounting of her own expertise as well as quiet but confident demeanor was telling of her professionalism. On the day of my wedding, I ran down to let her and her hair stylist into the hotel after waking up. They carried a large amount of supplies on the bellhop dolly. I knew these girls were ready to work. From 7:00am - 2:30pm these ladies worked essentially nonstop perfecting the look of the 7 clients they had. Stephanie had actually forgotten to bring the touchup kit with her that day, but delivered them to the venue later on that afternoon. My MOH did not have her phone on her, so I know Stephanie had to wait a while… but I am glad she did. Again, I knew I was taking a risk signing her on for my wedding… but I was pleasantly surprised. My makeup lasted through the night, only needing minor touchups and my hair was flawless as well. She offers a great rate as well. I felt beautiful and listened to, and am extremely happy with her service.
