Creative Cakes

My now husband was very sure we wanted Creative Cakes to do our wedding cake. We have used them before and its hard to find a baker that makes a cake that not only looks good but tastes amazing! And they fit the bill for all of the other birthday cakes we purchased. To put things in perspective we live in VIRGINIA and drive all the way to Silver Spring MD for this service. We went for the cake tasting and it went well I showed Randy a photo of what I wanted the cake to look like. She pointed out some flaws with the picture and assured us our cake would look better. She did mention that the flowers on the picture were sugar flowers which were more expensive and suggested their "box" flowers. Which she had an example of on one of the cakes after seeing them they were just as beautiful so we agreed. So on the day of the wedding when we did our room reveal for us first when I walked to the cake the look of disgust was clearly on my face because my husband immediately said "whats wrong". Not in the spirit of ruining such a beautiful moment I said nothing and forced a smile. The cake was HORRIBLE! It wasn't nearly as tall as the photo, and the "flowers" were PINWHEELS at best or maybe even swirls with ridges. I mean absolutely AWFUL! So being such a long standing client with them I emailed my concerns and was met with "I'm glad the cake taste good and have a happy marriage"...THATS IT! RUN RUN AND RUN FAR! I can't even stand to look at the photos of the cake from the wedding. You can see pictures of the comparison on the wedding wire where they let you post photos.

Our cake was lovely and tasted delicious! It arrived on time and as we had ordered it. We had three layers with different flavors. Be sure to visit their monthly tastings, you may be surprising by your favorite flavors!

Our butter rum wedding cake was a huge hit, not to mention absolutely gorgeous! It arrived on time in a box with instructions on how to freeze the top layer for our anniversary.

the cake was so perfect. we gave an example and color swatch, and the cake was more beautiful than we expected. everyone complimented us on the actual taste of the cake. i can't wait for one year to eat more!

I would like to thank Mrs. Anne for helping pick out the best wedding cake combination ever. Her professionalism was superb. She helped me to figure the best way to make sure that all my guest would be able to get a piece of delicious cake. Also I was very amazed on how the pastry chef was able to replicate the picture that I had given to them about how I wanted the cake to look, It was an 100% match. I can't wait to dig into my anniversary tier in 1 year. Thanks again!!

My only regret on my wedding day is that I did not eat more of our delicious cake! That's definitely a recommendation to all brides: try to slow down and enjoy the details you've worked so hard to plan! Our cake was absolutely gorgeous - a white, three-tiered cake with buttercream frosting. We chose a mandarin flavor for the bottom which was light and sweet (that's the layer we cut into and had our first taste), the middle layer was spice which my husband chose and didn't even get to try unfortunately, and the top layer that we're saving for our anniversary is almond. Everyone LOVED the cake, several guests even told us after the wedding that it was the best (and most moist) cake they had ever had and went back to seconds. I'm considering order a spice birthday cake for my husband from them, just so he can try his flavor!!

Ann at Creative Cakes was super easy to work with. They had tons of options to choose from for cake design. My husband picked the design and then together we picked flavors. We went with a different flavor for each of the 3 layers. Each layer more delicious then the previous! THe spice cake was a hit!

Our cake was amazing- two layers with white chiffon cake, white chocolate ganache and raspberry jam filling and one layer of double chocolate with fudge ganache all covered in Swiss meringue frosting. But the woman originally told me that the extra fillings and special frosting would be $1.00 per person extra but then when I actually went to pay she told me it was a $1.50. This was frustrating, but we were already getting a deal on the cake through our caterer so I didn't push it.

Our wedding cake came as part of our package at The Tower Club so we only looked at Creative Cakes but there was no need to look elsewhere. Their cakes are beautiful and tasty! We very much enjoyed our tasting and decided on chocolate, butter Rum and vanilla. We received so many complements on how moist and delicious our wedding cake was and we even noticed a few people going back for seconds. We also loved how our cake looked, they did a beautiful lace design to go with my wedding dress and didn’t charge us too much more for it. We were very pleased with how our wedding cake both looked and tasted as well as the price.

Delicious cake! Cake was there and ready to go when we got there and it looked perfect! The cake was super delicious. During the cake tasting, they were very straight and to the point. It went kind of fast with a rushing feel to the decision making which was probably good for me since I have trouble making decisions. They did give the option to make any changes up to two weeks before the wedding. Overall, great tasting, looked beautiful and were very helpful!

Creative Cakes provided a delicious, simply yet beautiful cake for my wedding. We originally wanted a red velvet cake but their butter rum was so delicious and flavorful that we decided to go with it. Ann was great at offering suggestions for the design so that it would flow well with the overall decor of my wedding. I would definitely recommend Creative Cakes for any special event.

Ann was great in helping us pick a cake that was beautiful and in line with our budget. My husband and I agree that the cake we had on our wedding day was absolutely delicious. Our guests felt the same that they requested a to-go-home dessert plate. Thank you Creative Cakes!

We went to one of Creative Cakes' open houses and were really impressed with how delicious all the cake flavors were. The one we selected, white chiffon with white chocolate mousse filling, was incredible. Our guests could not stop talking about how good it was.

Creative Cakes did an excellent job with my wedding cake. Not only was it delicious but it was exactly how I pictured it! I would definately use them again!

As part of our reception package we were able to get our cake from Creative Cakes. We were extremely happy with our cake! It was decorated so beautifully! Our top layer was mandarin orange and our bottom layer was spiced rum and it was DELICIOUS!!!! I will definitely be going back there to purchase cakes in the future! I would definitely recommend! :)

As a baker, I refused to compromise taste for beauty in my wedding cake. Luckily, I found Creative Cakes! They had helpful tips about how to adorn the cake into a beautiful masterpiece all the while retaining TASTE! My wedding cake was even more delicious than I imagined it would be from the cake tasting. I would highly recommend this vendor for your big day!

Creative Cakes was the company that was included in our package with the hotel. We chose to pay additional money to have a variety of flavors of cake and icing to appeal to all of our guests as well as have the design that we wanted vs the basic design that was provided. The coordinator was a little pushy and called multiple times the week before the wedding to confirm decisions/information that I had already provided. On the day of our wedding the cake was beautiful to the eye, but tasted slightly dry. I guess we can't argue because getting a cake from an alternative vendor would have been $1000-$1500 for the cake and an additional $3 PER SLICE cutting fee for using an outside vendor. Money we weren't willing to spend.

I'd recommend Creative Cakes to anyone looking for a gorgeous, custom cake for their wedding reception.

Simply put, we wanted a "Scrabble" cake. That is a lovely cake, that tasted good, and was adorned with Scrabble words and letters. I gave them nearly total creative license to create a great cake and that's exactly what they did. It looked perfect, unique and still tasted great. Delivery was right on time and our special requests were appropriately priced. Their cake was part of our package with Maggiano's but our adds were affordable.

My family and I went up for a Sunday event to try out the cakes first. They were great, but it was a huge event and not the place to sit down and discuss our wedding and cake with the owners. We made another appointment to cake taste and it was much more intimate and we felt like our questions were answered and we felt very special. Our cake was included in our wedding package from the Tower Club, which was a concern because we didn't have the option to pick our own bakery, however the cake was amazing! When we tasted the cakes, they were great, but weren't sure they were going to be as moist and delicious on our wedding day. I assure you it was, along with the next day and week after our wedding when we had leftovers to enjoy! I would highly recommend their cakes.

I was happy with the cake I received from Creative Cakes. It was delicious. However, when I placed the order for the cake, I was less than thrilled with the customer service skills coming from the owner herself. Nonetheless, the cake was still great.

We went with Creative Cakes from Silver Spring, MD because it was included in our package with our reception at the DC Navy Yard's Catering & Conference Center. Our original cake tasting was phenomenal. We were presented with so many options. We went with the Butter Rum Flavor cake. They matched the flowers on the cake to the color of my bridesmaid dresses. Everyone thought that the cake tasted fabulous. It even kept well when we froze it for a year.

Worth the money, very elegant cake!

A cake by Creative Cakes was included in the catering package at my venue. I checked out their website, and thought that their designs were generic, at best, and looked like something straight out of 1990. But I figured we should at least go do a tasting before judging them. So, I emailed the shop and inquired about setting up a tasting and received a rather rude, short response that we would have to come in on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, when they schedule public tastings. That would have been fine, except, a wedding cake is a fairly big deal and we really would have like one-on-one service when tasting and looking through their designs. I also read reviews of them on wedding wire and many of them were scary bad. So we decided to go elsewhere for the cake.

The owner is a great person to work with- We gave Creative Cakes a picture of what we wanted and the outcome was good.

This was one of three cake vendors we could choose from in our package, and it was an easy choice frankly. We went to a tasting at their store and the cake there was decent -- but the actual cake at our wedding was even better. It was moist and flavorful and gorgeous. We had the regular white frosting and fall leaves (fondant, not actual leaves) on top of that, with one layer of chocolate and another of mandarin orange. We ordered enough for 75 and there was definitely enough to go around. The vendor was very easy to work with, too.

We had to use Creative Cakes as part of our reception venue package. But we ended up being very impressed with them. Our cake was delicious and looked great. We went for the butter rum in the middle layer, and almond in the bottom and top layers, both with butter cream icing. Everyone raved that the cake was moist and delicious. The design was simple, as we wanted it - no fondant - just 3 layers of white butter cream frosting with soft purple accents. It looked and tasted great!

A wedding cake from Creative Cakes was included in our reception package. We met with Creative Cakes to try all the flavors and they were all delicious. I definitely recommend the orange cake! They walked us through all the different designs and flavors we could order and what came with our package and what would cost extra. We opted for one of their standard designs and provided our own ribbon for the tiers. We also paid an extra $25 to have a monogram (the same monogram used on other pieces at the wedding) put on all four sides. The cake came out gorgeous and was exactly what we wanted!

Our caterer, Matters of Taste, suggested Creative Cakes because they work together, and we really only looked here. The cake tasting was a fun process, and we chose their orange-flavored cake, which we were told was a staff favorite. Our guests loved it as well. The staff was enthusiastic about our design ideas, and were helpful when it came to trying to find a cake topper. But the one thing that was slightly frustrating was that despite our wanting a relatively simple design for our cake (one that was much simpler than many of their package cakes) we were charged an additional decoration fee. And it would have been easier to pay the entire sum to either Creative Cakes or our caterer, instead of paying one for the cake and the other for the added decorations. Those things aside, it was a delicious cake, one that we're looking forward to eating on our first anniversary.
