My husband and I live in Connecticut, but decided to get married in the mountains of Virginia where his family has spent vacations for the last 30 years. We got engaged at a viney...ard, and knew that we wanted to have our reception at a vineyard as well, but weren't sure where to start!
On a family vacation, Jeremy and I physically visited 20 vineyards looking for that special something. We wanted a beautiful setting, good wines, enough space for 150+ people, something close to reasonably priced hotels (every single guest was coming from at least 3 hours away), and near a Catholic Church. CrossKeys was everything we dreamed of and more.
I was nervous about planning a wedding 1,000 miles away, but Katie, Nikoo, Chef Mike, even Paul in the tasting room made it easier than I could ever imagine. Our guests raved about the food (and they are used to NYC dining), the wines, and the location. People have even asked my bridesmaids if the pictures had the background photo shopped in because they couldn't believe how perfect everything looked. We couldn't have been more thrilled with Katie's help coordinating with our outside vendors, keeping me calm and answering all of our questions. They were even willing to hand-pass donuts for us late night on the dance floor.
Chef Mike prepared one of the most delicious meals, that sadly a lot of guests couldn't finish because they gorged themselves on appetizers like scallops wrapped in bacon, and a special fig in phyllo with mascarpone that Mike was willing to make off menu for me. Our gluten free guest and several vegetarians loved their food, and our attentive waitress made sure I always had a glass of Meritage.
CrossKeys is a wonderful place to have your wedding reception, dancing under the lights, having the outdoor fireplaces lit to keep your guests warm if it's a chilly night, and just generally having a night to remember. We couldn't say enough about the experience, and look forward to many wine tastings over future visits!
