Megan Williams and the Event Staff EARNED this 5 star review! We planned our wedding to be at this venue before the Pandemic of 2020 started and were at a complete panic. This was ...
the time when people were asked to stay at home, people were getting laid off, I mean you know. We actually didn't start working with Megan, we had a different coordinator. One thing lead to another and we started working with a couple different people at the hotel. We understood, times were CRAZY but planning a wedding is already stressful enough as if the pandemic wasn't just the icing on the cake. Well as soon as we got in the hands of Megan, WOW the seas were parted and we just walked straight through this pandemic. She was so responsive to our emails, made sure we had a full understanding of what we could do and how we can plan with all this stuff going on and really just put us at complete ease. There were some hiccups on the day of the event, but this hotel staff worked so diligently to make sure our dream was not going to change. They treated us like royalty when we were there and so many of our guests were just blown away by the venue and how everything turned out. It couldn't have been a better night and you CAN NOT go wrong with that view from the Starlight Ballroom!!!!

Although Crowne Plaza was not my first choice for my reception, they went above and beyond throughout the whole planning process. I had sent multiple messages and called several ti...
mes to my first choice over the course of 2 weeks with no response, and Sharene (at Crowne Plaza) was amazing at answering my million questions and very timely in her responses. I was planning my KC wedding from Denver so communication was very important to me. Sharene is probably the nicest person ever. We had our reception on the top floor and our guests loved the views and the atmosphere. The food is amazing as well and there is plenty of it so your guests will not go hungry. Andrew, the banquet manager, was so incredibly nice and helpful. Natalie and Faviola took care of me and my husband's needs throughout the night. We honestly could not have asked for more. The staff were all so pleasant and great to work with. There were problems and situations I didn't even know about, but they took care of it without me even realizing it. It was a magical night, and I couldn't have asked for anything more!

I walked in to the Crowne Plaza after having had an underwhelming appointment at the Aladdin nearby. I was greeted and given a tour almost immediately! I was very pleased that ther...
e was someone from the sales team on location and available to do so. Lauren McKee sat down with me and went over different packages, plans, menus, etc. She followed up in a timely manner, but I never felt pressured or bombarded - very respectful in letting me take my time to plan.
Sharene contacted me immediately after I was introduced through Lauren. She gave me all of her contact info as well as a menu packages pdf. She let me know she would be helping me plan and then helped me block off rooms for my out of town guests. Lastly, when it came to planning the menu for my bridal party during the day of the wedding, she let me mix some of the packages together to accommodate my wishes--never any hesitation, I felt like she was saying "anything you want!" Thanks for all of your help, Sharene, you were wonderful!
We had a king suite; it was very clean with great views of the city. It was nice to have a sitting area (with a desk, couches, tv, and mini bar/sink area) that was separate from the bedroom. This allowed my husband to use our suite for the groomsmen to hang out and get dressed before the wedding. Housekeeping came and reset the room so we came back to a clean suite after the reception.
I chose to use a meeting room as the space for my bridal party and I to get ready the day of the wedding. The fee was waived when we utilized their catering during the event. The view of the city was stunning from the 26th floor meeting room! Definitely exceeded my expectations. My only complaint with my entire experience at KC Crowne Plaza, was that one of the two air conditioner units would not turn on in the meeting room. We notified staff and maintenance was called but never came. It got a little stuffy but we were able to prop both doors to the space open so it helped.
I was a bride on September 9, 2016 and used a conference room on the 26th floor as my "get ready room." Andrew was the attendant for our room for the day and he was fabulous! He was very polite, prompt, and exceeded our expectations! He sincerely congratulated me on my big day and he even brought one of my bridesmaids a pillow and blanket!
The caterers split up our order and delivered half to my husband in our room for the groomsmen, while the rest was sent to me and my bridesmaids in our meeting room. We were brought ice and juice and water at the very beginning, which was nice, and the food was delivered at the designated time later in the day.
I would highly recommend Crowne Plaza Downtown KC!

This is the perfect venue for having both the wedding ceremony and the reception. The two adjoining rooms; the spacious Starlight Ballroom and large meeting room (Salon D), allow ...
for a lot of flexibility in set up. We had the ceremony in the ballroom then had cocktails and hors d'oeuvres for an hour in Salon D while the ballroom was set up for the reception. We had 125 guests and had plenty of room. Salon D could also be set up for the ceremony then guests could move immediately to an already set up ballroom. The staff is very professional, warm and friendly, and always available, they were always smiling and helpful. We got rave reviews on the food from our guests, dinner was served hot and delicious. We also had hot sandwiches and chips served at about 10 pm which were much appreciated. The event planner Sharene is the best, we really enjoyed working with her in the planning stages. She was very accommodating and made sure the event flowed smoothly from start to finish. The view of Kansas City from both rooms is fantastic, a wonderful way to show off the city to out-of-towners. Barney Allis Plaza, Kauffman Center, and the Power & Light District are all within easy walking distance for outdoor pictures between the ceremony and reception. We walked to the Kauffman for a fabulous photo backdrop. Crowne Plaza is the perfect place for a downtown KC wedding event.

The reception space is on the 29th floor so it has an amazing view of downtown KC that our guests raved about. The food was also amazing. The downsides are the expense..Very pricey...
. Also, our coordinator and the staff were very disorganized and I did not feel very confident in the coordinator throughout the planning which created stress. They didn't get a lot of our details right on the day of.

My husband and I got married at Crowne Plaza last summer, and we are very happy with our choice. Libby did a fantastic job coordinating everything, and the staff the night off was ...
perfect.
Most of our wedding guests were from out of town, so this venue provided them with the perfect introduction to Kansas City -- the reception space had floor to ceiling windows on the 28th floor! I am happy to recommend Crowne Plaza.

I wish that I could give this hotel and staff the same favorable review but I cannot thus far. I sent in a RFP via the Knot with a prospective date for our wedding, every other ven...
dor tried to accommodate us from the Hilton to Argosy Casino regardless of the fact that our budget and wedding guest list is smaller than most. This is the only one that seemed unwilling to accommodate us although it is less well-known than many other potential venues. Like most brides to be I just wanted to be well informed about what's out there and it would have been much more gracious of the staff member assisting me to say, "we don't have that date available but here is the information so you can decide if you'd like to use us on another date". I even wrote a email saying the date was negotiable and could I receive the information anyway and received no response from the "catering sales manager" who I guess is responsible for such bookings. Finally I called and politely asked for the information I requested and was told there was a "12,000" dollar minimum for Sat. evenings. In my head I'm thinking ok well I won't have my wedding on a Saturday evening there are six other days in the week and I wanted an afternoon wedding anyway. Graciously I asked her to please send me the information so I the consumer can make a judgment about when and where I could afford to have my wedding. Yes I may not be a "Rockfeller" but I still am a consumer and deserve some respect. The attitude of this venue staff member has tainted my view of the Crowne Plaza I wouldn't book a wedding there or even a room for my dog. All these favorable reviews made me give this place a chance and the catering sales manager's snobbery destroyed that over the course of a email and an uncomfortable phone conversation. There are too many other places that are worthy of and would love to host your wedding no matter how small it is -don't waste your time with this "wannabee" Hilton hotel.
Update:
Although my husband to be and I chose another venue -we appreciate Ms. Huff's efforts to reach out and address my concerns. If this is the type of attentiveness my fellow reviewers received I can now understand their high ratings of this venue.

At first I was reluctant to book my wedding reception at an upscale hotel. In my past experience these hotels tend to nickel and dime you for all of the extras. That was not the ca...
se at the Crowne Plaza. Sure there are things that cost extra and the food was a pricey but they were up front about the costs and charges. Charity, the catering manager, did an exceptional job making sure we got everything we wanted. She and her team were also really nice to work with us to stay within the budget we wanted as well. We wanted open bar but didn't want to go over a certain amount and they averaged out the drink prices for us and made it work. She comped a room for us since we had so many guests staying at the hotel and she got us transportation to the church before the wedding.
As I mentioned before the food was pricey, at least more than a different caterer may charge but they allow you to use all of the minimum towards food and beverage and technically don't charge a room rental fee. My family and I are very conservative people and are careful with our money. If we had chosen a different location we would have had to pay the caterer and the rental fee and we would have came out about the same or more going somewhere else. We were able to stay close to the minimum charge. They service charge is going to put you over the minimum but I don't think we could have done much better especially since we wanted to have our reception in downtown Kansas City close to our church.
The venue itself is fantastic. It has gorgeous views of the city and the center chandelier turned out amazing in our pictures. It is a great space for a smaller wedding but could hold over 200. We had about 120 people. Also, having Salon D available is nice as well so people can escape the music if they want.
The champagne they give you to toast with is the best champagne I have ever tasted in my life. However, after we cut the cake the server took the champagne away and I didn't get another glass. Make sure you tell them to put that at the head table after you toast with it! It was so good.
The food was good too. We had prime rib and the salmon. The salmon was terrific. All of the food was good. Everyone really liked the crab cakes for the appetizer. We also had chicken fingers and pizza at 10:30pm. The pizzas were just bagel bites and gone before I got any. The chicken fingers were really good just expensive.
Overall, I was very satisfied with the venue. Everyone enjoyed the food and the sights and had a good time. Charity and the staff were great to work with and do what they can to make your day spectacular.
The other great thing that I liked about the Crowne Plaza over any other venue in downtown KC is that there wasn't a time limit. We had the area from 5pm to Midnight. Many other venues I looked at had only a four hour window. I didn't like that idea at all. I was determine to keep our party going til midnight.

I saw the ballroom on the 28th floor and had to have my wedding there! We had our ceremony is a smaller room next door to the big ballroom. All of our guest were very appreciative ...
that everything was in the same location and was just a couple of blocks from the Power and Light District. It got a little confusing when they switch our event coordinator in the middle of our planning and some details were missed. But overall is was great for the price seeing how a lot of things were included in the total cost. Overall the hotel was beautiful including the rooms and ballroom and I am very happy to have chosen this venue.

e car, one of the bell hops was going to help me upstairs. While we were waiting for the elevator, he got a call on his cell phone from his boss telling him to leave me there and to go help a bigger party. Not a good way to start off our stay! We had rooms blocked off for our wedding so we had other family members staying there as well. They placed my dad in the room right across the hall from us!! Don't they know what happens on wedding nights! haha While it's funny now, it was awkward that night. Other than that, it was a nice hotel. I just figured since we had booked that many rooms with them for our wedding, that we would have gotten a little better service.

Where do I start? My fiance and I liked the actual room upstairs from the get go. It is very nice modern and has 360 degree panoramic views of downtown kansas city. But DON'T let ...
this fool you! Charity the Catering sales mgr is an idiot!!! From our very first initial meeting we had said we wanted an open bar and heavy hors d'oevres. She indicated that would be no problem and we agreed on a $6,000 food and bev minimum for 120 people. Long story short, up to a week before we still didnt have a menu and she was unsure if we could do it within our budget for the number of people. She basically took our money and then wanted another $1900 to make it happen. She emailed me repeatedly asking what we wanted for food and was just overall clueless! The night of the event was a disaster she tried to get more money from my husband because she said there were too many people there. Im sure they could get an accurate count! They ended up shutting down the bar early, and it was supposed to be open til at least midnight. On top of all of that, there was a highschool journalism convention in town at our hotel. The wait for the elevator was 20min at least everytime. The kids vandalized my guestbook and got into my reception. Not to mention the fact that we paid $1000 for a photographer and couldnt take photos anywhere in the hotel. Kids were harassing us. And the 20 rooms my guests booked were ugly and dirty! Not to mention they couldnt sleep for all the kids running up and down the halls!!! My experience there was horrific! And brides if your hoping for a suite, no such thing!!! They are ugly and dont look anything like a suite. The next morning we had to load everything from the night before by ourselves. We took 5 trips of boxes down the elevator waited 20 min or more each time. Then some banquet guy had the nerve to just hand me my cake with no wrapping on it. I guess he thought i would just hold it on my lap all the way home. I will never go there again, the place is a dump and the people that work there are idiots! They obviously dont care about the guests there. And it doesnt matter how much money you spend or how many rooms you book.
