Daniel did a great job with our wedding. It started out with a thorough consultation where we discussed our expectations, budget, location, and - importantly - his expectations. He answered all of our questions and showed us sample images that weren’t on common websites. Before the wedding (weeks in advance) he gave us a sheet to fill out our requests, provide points of contact for the wedding day, confirm addresses, etc. On the day the wedding, he arrived on time (early, actually) and well-prepared. He was a great photographer and, well, social engineer to help “wrangle” family members, bridesmaids and groomsmen, and everyone else. He knows the flow of weddings well and what is realistic given timeframes, location limitations, etc. He has a great, sarcastic sense of humor and he was willing to accommodate special requests from us while keeping our expectations realistic so he can deliver on what we asked I highly recommend him.
Love this guy! He did a fabulous job. And worked with our crazy schedule. this was for a same sex wedding. And he was just wonderful!
Daniel was recommended to us. Combined with all of the great reviews, we believed that he was the photographer for our us. Unfortunately, we were extremely dissatisfied with his effort and service. He was unprofessional, abrasive and rude. We did not get what we paid for. When we first met with Daniel, he seemed friendly, knowledgeable and the work he displayed was beautiful. After deciding to hire him, he provided a poorly written one sided contract that offered no protection to us. When my fiancé, an attorney, attempted to negotiate the contract, Daniel seemed insulted and did not want to budge. We were so shocked at the hostile response to normal business negotiations that we wanted to find a new photographer. However, we really liked his work and didn’t want to start the whole process again. So we finally settled. Daniel designed our save the dates. I am not sure if it is his ego or he just doesn’t like criticism but he pushed back on many of the changes we wanted. In the end we just gave up and again settle. At the wedding, Daniel was very aggressive and rude at times. Many of the guests were not pleased with his behavior. It did not help people relax and feel comfortable which showed in many of the photographs. Additionally, for many of the formal pictures the groups were not organized or spaced correctly. He also failed to take photos that are typical wedding shots such as my shoes and the place card table. When questioned about certain pictures being missing, he lied. Finally, after confirming a date and time to meet Daniel for our album creation, we drove an hour to find that he double booked. His response was for us to find something to do for 3 hours. Not all was negative. He was extremely responsive to email and arrived early to the engagement session and the wedding. Our album is beautiful and we received it extremely fast. We do have some great shots, but not enough to justify the unpleasant ordeal. We would not recommend Daniel.
We really enjoyed working with Daniel for our wedding.
He was friendly and fun. My wedding party liked him and felt comfortable with him. We got him through a bridal show discount which was awesome. The engagement session pics came out great...now we just have to wait for the wedding pics to come out.
Excellent time working with Daniel. Just happened to meet him at a bridal show and his dynamic personality sold me. He is very enthusiastic and personable that he makes everyone comfortable and ready for a good time. His pictures are spectacular. I can't stop looking through them all. He does great work and captured some beautiful shots.
When choosing a wedding photographer, it's important to hire someone that your personalities mesh with. We interviewed several different photographers and as soon as we met Daniel we knew he was the right fit for us. He has a fun personality and he is a very knowledgeable and talented photographer. We had never hired a photographer before so we were not sure the questions to ask, or what we needed to know. Daniel took over and was so helpful and informative about what it would be like on our wedding day, and what we needed to consider in hiring a photographer. He is very good at what he does, and he obviously enjoys it.
We had an engagement session with him and that's when we realized what a professional he really is. He made those awkward kissy poses seem natural for us and he really captured quality photographs. We were extremely happy with our engagement pictures and knew that our wedding pictures would be even better......and they were!
Daniel is very prompt, in fact whenever we had an appointment with him, he was always there early, waiting for us. A nice perk with Daniel's package is that he will visit your wedding venue with you before your wedding to scope out good spots for photos. This was important for us and it really helped on the wedding day to make the most of our time. We enjoyed our time with him and he even made the time to sit down and chat, and share a bottle of wine with us at the vineyard to get to know us.
On our wedding day, Daniel was a true professional and made us feel very comfortable. After your ceremony is a special time to just be together by yourselves for pictures and Daniel captured our love in those photos. Not only was Daniel great when dealing with us, but he excelled in dealing with all the different personalities in our wedding party. He was able to control the group, even after a night of drinking, and captured great pictures. Daniel has special tricks he uses in order to make people do things or act certain ways to make the pictures look like they're candid. We also received compliments from the owner of our venue about how great Daniel was to work with.
As far as price....you get what you pay for. Photography was not something we wanted to skimp on, because these pictures will last forever. Daniel offers competitive prices and really does an amazing job, taking his time with you and knowing what your personalities are like. Our engagement and wedding pictures were so good, our friends were jealous. We would recommend Daniel to anyone and we are grateful he was our wedding photographer!
Daniel did our engagement pictures as well as our wedding. He was punctual(early, actually), professional and really made our wedding. He made us feel natural and it showed in our pictures. :)Everyone loved our pictures!!!
Daniel is not the cheapest guy out there, but he is worth every penny! Our engagement photos are beautiful. Daniel is easy to work with - he even put my photo-phobe fiance/husband at ease.
There are not enough words to describe Daniel McGarrity of Daniel McGarrity Photography. From the moment my husband and I first met Daniel, when he insisted on meeting at our house or another nearby location, rather than some stuffy office, Daniel made us feel comfortable. He assured us that every shot that we would want would be captured. Little did we know that that would involve outdoor pictures in the middle of a hurricane, but more on that later.
As friends advised us, it is imperative to choose a photographer that you truly enjoy being around, otherwise when you are tired, hungry, and stressed, the last thing that you will want to do is smile for your photographer. Daniel has an amazing rapport. Not only with us, but also our guests, and it shows in the pictures. So many of our guests came up to us after the wedding to say how wonderful Daniel was and that they wanted to hire him for their special occasions. Daniel is so engaging and managed to put even those who don’t enjoy having their picture taken (me included) at ease. There are no phony smiles in any of the pictures; everything is natural.
Daniel is also one of the most creative photographers we have ever met. Though he still gets the standard family pictures and some table shots if you want them, Daniel is a true artist. He knows how to pose his subjects and take advantage of various architectural features to take one-of-a-kind shots. For example, the shot of my husband and my leaning up together kissing in front of a long hallway full of columns was spectacular. As was the shot of us in the elevator at night leaving the reception.
Now, back to those outdoor shots in the middle of Hurricane Irene. We thought that Hurricane Irene’s surprise appearance had thrown our entire plan for outdoor pictures, well, out the door. But Daniel, who is quick on his feet and extremely creative, gave us a clear umbrella with an attached spotlight and asked us to walk out into the hotel courtyard. The resulting image of the two of us alone in the pitch black courtyard with a light shining down on us and slightly illuminated rain drops all around us was amazing. We didn’t get too wet and have one of the most beautiful pictures we could imagine.
We are so happy Daniel was able to celebrate our wedding with us and capture our special day with fun and unmatched creativity.
Huge thank you for photographing our special day. Everyone who attended has commented on how discreet, professional and accommodating you were. Our photography experience was lovely! I want to thank you once again for all you have done.
Daniel was great! He traveled up to Philadelphia for engagement pictures and then to Bluemont, VA for our wedding. We had many compliments from our guests and wedding party in regards to his personality and ability to direct. He listened to my requests and was very patient on the big day.
I cannot say enough great things about Daniel McGarrity; 5 stars are not enough! He is a fantastic photographer, who has such a wonderfully artistic eye. The pictures I've seen so far of our wedding are fantastic, and I cherish them so much.
Daniel was great to work with before the wedding - he is easy going, and he and my husband got along really well (TIP - ladies, you want your husbands-to-be to be comfortable with your photographer, the pictures will turn out best if he is!). We had such a fun time at our engagement session and got some excellent shots. Daniel created a sign-in book with the pictures from the shoot, which everyone loved!
Our wedding was beautiful and I am so happy to have such gorgeous pictures to help us relieve the day.
A bride and groom place an exorbitant amount of trust in their photographer on their wedding day to capture memories meant to last a lifetime. Given the unique circumstances of my brother’s wedding, the stakes were even higher than usual.
This past October was an emotional roller coaster for my family. While I was thrilled for my brother to be committing himself to his bride, my happiness for him was marred by fear and uncertainty. Just months before the wedding, he permanently lost vision in one of his eyes as a product of Type I Diabetes. As a result of complications from the surgery to save his other eye, we learned that he would not be able to see anything more than vague shapes on his wedding day.
With this, the task of photographer Daniel McGarrity became not merely to capture the moments of the event, but to do so in a way that when my brother regained his vision, that he would be able to visually experience his wedding day for the first time; to fill in the gaps of what he could only surmise was happening around him as he struggled to find his way in the darkness and shadows his vision provided. Over and above the usual wedding day hubbub of helping to cut out extraneous bridesmaid dress straps and providing double-sided tape, Daniel offered a level of compassion, sensibility, and understanding that was beyond comforting. Beyond skillfully directing hordes of relatives through the formal shots and the like, he approached our situation with a sense of humor and charm that helped everyone feel more at ease.
I can most simply describe the images from the wedding as stunning. The photographs read like a compilation of stolen moments, with candid shots of the ecstatic couple beaming at each other, and family and friends basking in their admiration of the newlyweds. Daniel creatively and artfully tells the story not only of the wedding day, but of the love that my brother Vince and his wife Stacey share.
Since the wedding, and in true happy ending fashion, Vince’s vision has improved tremendously. The sadness I felt in my heart for my brother and his condition dissipated as I pored over hundreds of images from their day, which clearly evidenced a beautiful, honest, and sincere love story.
I met Daniel at a Bridal Showcase - where there were dozens of photographers. He stood apart from all of them!! How? Instead of shoving an album in my face, he took the time to talk with me and my mother. He was incredibly nice and something about him, immediately made me think, "This is my photographer!" After my husband and I met with him, we signed right away! Our photos from the engagement shot and wedding day were BEAUTIFUL and perfect! As I looked at all the photos I was crying happy tears! Not only is he a wonderful photographer but he knows all the tricks of the trade. I would HIGHTLY recommend Daniel to everyone!!
Daniel is an amazing photographer. We liked him the first time we met him. I had two ceremonies, a Cambodian one and a "white dress" one before our reception. He came early in the morning and was with us through the night. He worked great with my photo crazed family. He got the shots that he needed and let them get the shots that they wanted as well. He took us to D.C. and got some really nice shots there as well. We are very happy with Daniel. We are going to met with him to purchase and album from him and from what we saw of the others, they seem really, really incredible. We can't wait to get our own.
Daniel was AMAZING from Day 1. I was pretty sure that he would be the one when he offered to meet me "any day or night" for an initial consultation. I am a busy busy working woman, living in Charlottesville, Virginia, and I needed flexibility in my vendors to pull this wedding off. I was SURE he would be the one when he sat down with me to review my crazy Bollywood Indian wedding...and knew more about the series of events than I did!
Our engagement shoot was easy, comfortable, and produced beautiful pictures that Daniel turned into the "talk-of-the-town guest book." The wedding weekend shoot was...well...i just don't have words (but I do have beautiful pictures)!
I have never heard so many Indian folks compliment "that nice white photographer" about everything: his charm, sincerity, knowledge and respect for indian customs, and of course, his obvious talent. He completely won over our families, and that's not easy to do!
I recommend Daniel to any bride: indian, white, black, latina, with only one hesitation...I'm selfish and am sad that he won't be my personal photography secret!
