Deborah's Specialty Cakes is a bakery with a special love of creating exceptional bespoke wedding cakes. Based in Athens, GA, we happily serve the greater Northeast Georgia area. (We've delivered to South Carolina before, and as far as Tybee Island, GA.) We can't wait to work with you to craft a custom piece for you to delight in and devour. Whether you're after a classic white wedding cake or an on-trend statement cake, our talented baker and decorator can create something that will awe you and your guests!
Our family-owned, local bakery has been in business for over 30 years and has whipped up countless treats to delight the community. Our team takes a hands-on approach with every client and will work closely with you to design a cake that matches your vision. Along with the primary wedding cake, we offer cupcakes, cake pops, cookies, croquembouche, and dessert tables with an assortment of homemade brownies, blondies, pudding, or macaron for your wedding reception. Our wedding was not just beautiful it was delicious as well. We appreciate all that you have done from decorating beautifully and the delivery. I highly recommend Deborah Specialty Cakes to all my friends and family.
Amazing! Our wedding cake came out beautifully and all of our guests were raving about it! I had so many people texting me after the wedding asking about our baker and our cake. Emma was super communicative and flexible with the planning process. She helped me design my dream cake. My MIL also used Deborah's Specialty Cakes for our rehearsal dinner cupcakes and they were also delicious!
Debra is an absolute angel who also just happens to make the most delicious cakes!! She was so easy to work with and our cake was stunning on our wedding day! We had multiple different flavors that were all crowd pleasers. The salted caramel is my personal favorite! I highly recommend Debra to all brides!

Deborah's cakes were absolutely beautiful and very tasty! She worked with us on downsizing our wedding cake when our wedding was drastically down-sized due to COVID-19. She was prompt in delivering the wedding cake and groom's cake on the day of the wedding and she did a great job decorating our wedding cake with the flowers provided from the florist. It was stunning! The only reason why I'm giving 4 stars is because the tasting experience at her home was a little awkward instead of it being in a restaurant/bakery setting. Otherwise we had a great experience!

Overall amazing!
I would highly recommend her! She's the best baker you can find for any occasion. Her cakes are super fluffy and moist, the fillings are delicious and the sky is the limit, and the icings are not too too sweet and are overall well balanced!! Everything was super easy - the first response on my email was really quick and extremely detailed (she obviously took a lot of time and effort to answer all of my questions). She's such a warm-hearted person that we needed only one phonecall to talk about all important questions and everything was planned with great email communication in less than a week. Being creative with her was such a pleasure and even if you don't know at first how everything's gonna look like in the end or if you just have a rough idea at first, she will be there patiently, supportive, and helpful until you are absolutely happy with the end result. She was super flexible to offer us a cake tasting during these tough times and it was the most amazing cake tasting you could ever imagine. We just stayed at our wedding venue and she made it possible that we could stop by on our way home, got this wonderful variety of her cakes and fillings to get an idea of what she's offering and it was so wonderful to meet the person behind the scenes. She's gonna make our wedding cake and 3 three tires filled with unique and special cupcakes for our wedding. I'm so excited and happy that she's gonna be a part of the most important day of our lives. Thank you so much for everything!!

By far the best wedding cake I've ever tasted. Debra did a tasting in her home, which was just so welcoming and sweet. Multiple guests said it was the best cake they've ever tasted. Debra even stayed and served the cake as part of her pricing, which was very good for the amount of cake and service we received.
I couldn’t recommend Deborah enough. From our initial consultation all the way to the wedding day we have received nothing short of exemplary service and value. I can’t imagine the wedding with any other cake. If you’re looking for the best cake for your wedding, look no further. Deborah was hands down the best money we spent on the wedding. We will definitely steer any friends we come across to her!

Not only were we shocked at how delicious a cake could be, but we fell in love with Debra, too! From the first time I met her, Debra was friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to make us happy - she makes the best cakes I've ever eaten. She surprised us with a BEAUTIFUL wedding cake, but she also did the groom's cake (made to look like an exact replica of my husband's Orca cooler filled with Miller Lites - nailed it), the charm cake for our bridesmaids luncheon, and a birthday cake to present to my stepsister at our rehearsal dinner/party. I 100% guarantee you will NOT regret hiring Debra. WE LOVE HER (and her cake)!
Delicious cake!! All of our guests loved it! We provided eucalyptus branches for Deborah to use to decorate our cake and it turned out just BEAUTIFUL! Better than I could have imagined! Would absolutely recommend her to anyone for any occasion! She was easy to contact, happy to answer any of my questions, very timely and professional. She brought our dream wedding cake to life!

I love Deb. She made me and my (now) husband feel welcome and made us the most delicious cake that tasted like a s'more. It was incredible! Plus she accomodated last minute requests for two cupcakes for my father-in-law's birthday and a bridesman. I would recommend her 1000%.

Deborah was such a joy to work with! The cake tasting was hard, because all of her cakes taste so darn good! My husband and I did a simple, 3 tiered cake and it came out beautifully. She delivered the cake for us and decorated it with flowers from the florist. I showed her a Pinterest photo of what I was looking for and the cake came out looking exactly like that! I was so, so pleased. And the cake was DELICIOUS! All of our guests commented to us about how tasty each layer was.

I loved working with Deborah for our wedding cake and cupcakes! She is an absolute hoot and she really has a passion for baking which is obvious in her work. Everyone loved the cupcakes (even the gluten free option we chose!) I can't wait to have the rest of our cake on our first anniversary!

I can't stress this enough... DO NOT USE THIS WOMAN! She interfered with our wedding day and I would hate for her to ruin someone else's big day! PLEASE trust me and use another baker. We even gave her a month to make things right and she wouldn't! I'm posting this on every wedding site in hopes that no one else will have to go through what we did.

It is unfortunate that a misunderstanding between you and your venue has caused you to write negative and untrue statements about my business. There are not even enough stars to rate this wonderful cake designer! Debra Adams is the absolute best! Not only are her cakes beautiful, but are so delicious! The groom attended Ole Miss and she created an Ole Miss cooler cake that was every bit delicious as it was amazing to see! The wedding cake was absolutely beautiful with each layer a different color. Every last slice was eaten with her even providing well above the amount we actually ordered! She is also a dream to work with! We loved her and highly recommend her!

We had Deborah make us a 3-tier wedding cake along with 2 cakes for the dessert table. Every single cake was DELICIOUS! There wasn't any cake leftover for us at the end of the night our guests devoured them all! I was hearing compliments all night long about them! I am so happy with our experience with Deborah definitely would recommend to anyone looking for a wedding cake!

I discovered Deborah's Specialty Cakes through my venue, The Taylor Grady House, and their list of vendors. My mom and I drove to Athens one day to meet with Deborah, who does the cakes from her home. She was very enthusiastic about her cakes and baking. I knew I wanted a naked cake, which she had done before. We talked about how many people we needed it to feed and she brought out some Styrofoam squares and circle to represent cake shapes and sizes. We ended up going with a round bottom, square middle, and round top. She let us taste multiple cake, filling, and icing flavors. We had a hazelnut chocolate cake and a chocolate chip cake. She made notes and drawings of exactly what I wanted. A few weeks before my wedding, she called me to confirm everything. The cake was delicious! I am betting that the top layer that we have in the freezer will even be good...she gave us special instructions on how to freeze it the right way. The only critique I have is that on the day of the wedding they brought it an hour after our scheduled delivery time. Nothing had started yet, so there was no interruption, it was just late. It still tasted great! And all of my guests loved the naked cake style!

It was BEAUTIFUL, and looked exactly like the picture I gave to her to work from!
Her cake selections are wonderful! We ended up doing a chocolate with hazelnut filling and a white cake with raspberry filling. The icing was delicious! Everything turned out beautifully!

I highly recommend Debra's wedding cakes. I have only had my tasting so far and the different flavors i tried were AMAZING! I am a wedding specialist in SC and have tasted a ton of cakes and Debra's are BY FAR the most flavorful, moist and freshest cakes i have ever tasted. I am so excited to have her be a part of my special day and cant wait to eat my cake!
I met with Deb after reading some good things about her. I will say that her cakes do taste amazing, but I do not think that what I got was worth what I paid. I took a picture of the cake I wanted, and I got something a little bit different. I will post pictures of the dream vs the reality later. I also didn't get real quick response from her after contact.
If you do go with Deb, do the Graham Cracker Cream. It was good.

of like how two people can't knit on the same sweater....the stitches are correct but each person has their own unique way of making them. I strive to get back to my brides within two business days after they call or email me. During very busy, high demand times it sometimes goes a little longer.Give me a call and I will make an 8" graham cracker cream cake for you for free!
We used Deb for the wedding cake and groom's cake. They turned out great! She did a beautiful job. Great pricing as well. However, communicating with Deb is interesting because she always seems a bit frazzled and disorganized but she came through.

Deborah has the greatest tasting cakes for the money. Although we only tasted a small amount at the wedding (wish we would have saved some for later!), our tasting proved the quality was there.
Cons: Cake was not exactly like we had planned and Deborah is a little disorganized, so she did not do everything we had discussed in our planning meeting (probably because she forgot).

I used Deb for the wedding cake, groom's cake and the "bride's cake" (yes I had a bride's cake!)
The wedding cake was GORGEOUS! Deb did an amazing job decorating it. I cannot go on enough about how gorgeous it was. She is truly fantastic.
I was a little disappointed in the groom's cake. Deb talked me into doing a deer cake for my hunting husband. The deer itself was awesome, but the cake that he sat on was supposed to have camoflauge leaves around it and it did not. In the grand scheme of things, it is not that big of a deal, but you want to get what you are paying for.

She did the wedding and grooms cakes for my wedding. Except for a few people, the did not enjoy the lemon filling we had chosen for the wedding cake. She was not the person we had chosen originally and she did not offer a cake testing so we had chosen the flavor from the other person we had enjoyed. Everyone, however, enjoyed the chocolate grooms cake. There was nothing left-over! The wedding and grooms cake were executed perfectly; however, she is not one I recommend highly.

Our cake was PERFECT to the 'T'. Debra was AWESOME to work with and she really cared about what we wanted and called to check in with us several times throughout the process. Our cake not only looked incredible but tasted amazing. Which is exactly what we wanted. Our cake cost $200 INCLUDING delivery and set up and fed 106 guests. We were very pleased with this service and would recommend her in a heartbeat!

Emma attended Agnes Scott College, where she majored in theatre. After graduating, she began nannying, which she still does in the afternoons. Emma spent many weekends through high school helping her mom with fondant sculptures & figurines, and officially joined the team in 2020. She's excited to continue her mom's legacy of offering delectable comestibles for couples to enjoy on their big day. In her free time, Emma enjoys working with glass, metal, & resin, and spending time outside, reading, or walking in the woods looking for edible plants and mushrooms to forage.
