I booked Deer Creek Country Club nearly two years in advance for a wedding of approximately 100 guests. The venue is visually appealing, and the lower cost for both the ceremony and reception initially made it seem like a great option. However, I ultimately had to cancel my event due to serious concerns regarding food quality, customer service, and the refund process. Because I was planning my wedding from North Carolina, my food tasting occurred later in the planning process. While the appetizers were enjoyable, the entrées were extremely disappointing. I selected the chicken and flank steak with potatoes. The chicken was very dry and bland, and the steak was severely overcooked and difficult to chew. I did not have high expectations, but I did expect the food to be reasonably enjoyable and edible for my guests. Unfortunately, it fell well below that standard. After the tasting, I contacted the Events Director, Kathy, to share my concerns and asked about changing the entrée selections. She agreed to schedule another tasting; however, her tone noticeably shifted during the conversation, which raised additional concerns. I also asked about bringing in outside catering, despite knowing the contract restricts this option. I was informed that doing so would result in an additional fee of nearly $5,000, on top of the cost of hiring a new caterer. Charging thousands of dollars simply to allow alternative catering due to dissatisfaction with the venue’s food felt excessive and unreasonable. Due to these concerns, I decided to cancel my event. I understood that the security deposit was non-refundable, but I was told the remaining balance would be refunded within 14 days. Unfortunately, the refund process was handled poorly. Fourteen days passed with no refund and no communication from Deer Creek. I had to reach out for an update and was told there was an issue with my bank, despite my bank confirming there were no problems processing the original payments. No one from Deer Creek proactively contacted me to explain the delay. Over the following days, I had to follow up multiple times. One message went unanswered, and another resulted in being told there was still no update from accounting. Ultimately, 21 days after cancellation, I was informed that a paper check had been delivered to the clubhouse instead of being mailed to my address as requested. I then had to take time out of my day to retrieve it. When I arrived, neither the Events Director nor the associates involved came downstairs to acknowledge the situation or offer an apology. Instead, a server—who was kind and professional—was sent to hand me the check. Having funds held beyond the promised refund timeline while managing other wedding-related expenses was extremely frustrating and avoidable. While Deer Creek Country Club may appear attractive and affordable, my experience revealed significant issues with food quality, flexibility, communication, and professionalism. If food quality and transparency matter to you, I strongly recommend doing extensive research before committing to this venue.

ving it a 4 star review b/c we feel they were a bit under-staffed for the event both in set up & food service and one of the entrees chosen was not executed well at all. The staff is super friendly and Jessica went above and beyond to make the day a huge success!!

a wide variety of options that caters to any budget. Savannah, the venue coordinator, is amazing. She is very responsive and attentive to whatever questions/requests you may have. She is very detail-oriented and very helpful for day-of coordinating. We did not feel like we needed to hire a coordinator because we had Savannah. Deercreek is a beautiful venue with tons of scenery, perfect for photos/videos. The clubhouse's back patio recently underwent some renovations, complete with pavers and a firepit, which is ideal for guests who may want to escape the noise of the reception. We are so happy we chose to get married at Deercreek Country Club and would highly recommend it to anyone looking.
