The World Renowned Degas House in New Orleans, LA, is a beautiful indoor-outdoor wedding venue that masterfully blends history with art and hospitality. This charming property is located on Esplanade Avenue, one of the quietest and most aesthetically pleasing streets in the city. Elegant and refined, it offers a one-of-a-kind setting to tie the knot
The French impressionist master, Edgar Degas, resided in The World Renowned Degas House from 1872-1873. Here, he created over 18 paintings, 4 drawings, and 5 letters that altered our understanding of art. It is a world-class venue, recently awarded the prestigious title of Maisons des Illustres "House of the Illustrious" by the French Ministry of Culture. This title is given sparingly to the most distinguished houses around the world, with the intention of preserving their political, cultural, social, and historical significance. Some of the other houses that share this title are associated with names such as Monet, Napoleon, Cartier, Yves Saint Laurent, and Jeanne d'Arc. With only one other property in the US holding this prestigious title, the house demands the highest quality of maintenance and customer service, which the staff takes great pride in delivering. Ceremonies are hosted in their French Quarter-style courtyard, beautifully paved and adorned with twinkling market lights. Here you can exchange vows before a ceremony arch decorated with a personal touch. For your reception, you can join over 300 guests in their Victorian parlors for an evening of dining and entertainment. These opulent spaces are exquisitely furnished with period-style furniture and Degas replicas. After a full day of making magical memories, you can retire to their luxurious accommodation suites to relax and recharge.
Jumpstart your special day by contacting the team at The World Renowned Degas House for a friendly consultation. They can guide you through all the packages, helping you choose one that meets your needs and budget. They accommodate all styles of ceremonies and host everything from intimate gatherings to extravagant destination weddings. Their expert planning team can assist you in organizing every aspect of your event, including your schedule, budget, decor, and much more. Catering and bar services are offered on-site with seasoned staff to wait tables and look after setup and cleanup. Free WiFi, a helpful reception area, and wheelchair access are also provided for maximum comfort and convenience.

My wedding was the wedding of my dreams. The venue was perfect and my guests and I loved the historical aspect of it. There a few minor mishaps, but that’s normal. Overall, the night went swimmingly!

We signed a contract with the Degas House 13 months before our wedding date. It was a rough 13 months, we had a hard time getting details from the coordinator, then she retired, but no one told us. They changed their caterers, but also didn't tell us. We didn't hear anything from them until we were reaching out for details to work with our vendors. Even then it would take a month (or more) to get responses.
Our original contract was wrong -- the dates, the pricing. It was a mess to figure out. We had to rework our schedule and entire menu again a few months before the wedding. Luckily, we had the opportunity to work directly with our new caterer and they were amazing. The caterer did the floor plans and banquet event order. They also gave us a heads up about additional rentals to consider the day of.
Linens are included in their pricing, but I recommend asking to see one. They are not pressed between uses. They look like they are crumpled up between events. If you are doing an evening event, you might be able to get away with all the wrinkles. If you are doing a daytime event, you will want to plan to rent linens.
We did not have enough in our guest count and had a brunch wedding, which meant random people were walking around the property and into the museum side of the house during our entire event time. We even had some of the tourists over in the dining room with all our catering. It was a little weird.
If you decide to select this venue, I highly encourage having your own wedding planner or day of coordinator to support you through the chaos. The venue is beautiful for photos and the courtyard works great for garden style weddings.

First, the GOOD: MISS SHARON! She gets 5 enthusiastic stars. She is an incredible chef. The food was absolutely delicious! I am a New Orleans local with Cajun blood and the food was approved by ALL including all the mommas and aunts. She looked out for us the day of the wedding. Made sure we got to eat! She runs this place like it's her own. It should be.
This is a very charming setting for a day or night wedding. Great New Orleans feel for both locals and visitors. Very photogenic (when the lightbulbs aren't burnt, see below). The reception has a lot of their own chairs, tables, linens etc.. which is nice to not have to rent on your own. Otherwise it's really just a space.
Now the BAD: I went through THREE different venue coordinators and finally ended up with Kathy who needs to go back to Hospitality school. She made me feel like I was part of the problem and she was truly the worst thing about my entire wedding planning process. It was my FIRST wedding. But not hers. The venue is a courtyard in between 2 old buildings with string lights. Several of the bulbs were burnt on my wedding night, which I was assured would be fixed prior to the day. And now it's in the pictures. Their outside heaters apparently weren't stored properly so they didn't have outdoor heaters for a November wedding. We had to scramble to buy lots of heaters.
Please note that there is a very strict noise ordinance in the area. The volume that the music has to stay at past 9pm was laughable. Might as well just turn it off. We're in our late 30s, early 40s. We don't need a rave.

We loved Degas House! It was the perfect elegant, historic, garden party-esque, New Orleans-y venue. It fit our ~130 guests very well and they set up the ceremony and then flipped the space for cocktails and the reception flawlessly. The food was truly amazing and delicious and the dressing of the bride package was lovely and made our day of getting ready and spending time together so easy and effortless. All the staff were kind and invested in our event. David even videotaped some key events and sent them to us so we wouldn't miss some of those special moments. We appreciate all of the effort, thought, and professionalism that went into hosting a perfect event and can't wait to come back and stay at Degas House as guests!

We absolutely loved the Degas House! Sharon's food was absolutely fantastic!!! Many of our guests complimented the food. We did the dressing of the bride which was a lot of fun. We did have a leaky roof (which is to be expected from a very old house), but they quickly repaired it. The staff was very attentive and helped our reception run smoothly.
We chose 4/5 stars mostly because the communication could have been better. Many times they would get details wrong like number of guests or if we were doing both the reception and ceremony there. They were also late bringing breakfast up for Dressing of the Bride so we had to eat while our makeup team was getting us ready. Wasn't a big deal, just inconvenient. They also ensured they would have heaters if it was cold. When we asked to use them, they only had 3 heaters for 185 people... so we had to rent more last minute.
Overall, we would definitely recommend Degas House!

Ms. Sharon, Kathy, and David were so helpful and attentive from the time we reached out to them when we were considering having our wedding there til the morning after the wedding! It was such a wonderful experience. We even had bad weather and that was the lay thing anyone let me worry about. I went outside and tents were up, seats were arranged so none our guests got wet. The staff was very kind to myself and all of our guests. I will always recommend Degas House to any bride to be. Thank you everyone at Degas for everything y’all did to make my day as special and perfect as it was ❤️

Degas House, was not only the best venue for our wedding but the only venue for our wedding. To say that the venue was beautiful, that the team working there was professional and lovely, and that the greenery and decor were perfect, all would be an understatement. A special thank you to Ms. Sharon who went above and beyond to ensure that my groom's dietary needs were taken care of, that we took home food and wine, and that I didn't forget my bridal bouquet after the wedding! When I look back at our wedding photos, I know that our wedding day was perfect, in no small part because we had our special day at Degas House. The team that works there, made sure that we had everything we needed and ensured that our wedding day was fun, easy, and full of love. I would recommend Degas House to anyone looking to get married surrounded by art, culture, love and professionalism.

The Degas House was the perfect venue for my wife and I to get married. We had a small wedding (60 people), with mostly close family and friends, and the courtyard was magical for the ceremony. We didn't even bother with arranging for decorations because the venue was perfect as is. We didn't have a wedding party, so we both stayed in the main suite and had friends and family stay on the property with us. Would highly recommend! The last thing I'll mention is the staff. Kathy helped us plan the wedding and answered all our questions along the way. The event staff at Degas House were so nice and helpful in taking care of the fine details. 5/5

Magical, A Dream Come True, Fairy-tale Wedding!!!
The Degas House, A Historic House Museum, was the perfect venue for my daughter and her husband's destination wedding.
New Orleans was the perfect city for us.
David, Kalin, Kathy were a complete joy to work with.
The home and furnishings were exquisite. The Estelle Room was so beautiful and made their wedding day and evening very special. There was plenty of room for the bridesmaids to dress. The groom and his groomsmen stayed in a beautiful 18th century furnished parlor. The courtyard was so beautiful.
I worked closely with Kalin, she helped with every small detail and made sure we had everything we needed for a perfect wedding.
And the Food!! Many of our guest said the food was the best food they ever had at a wedding. Cajun/Louisiana dishes and the Pork Roast was the best I've every eaten. Ms Sharon and her staff even made fried chicken and fries for the kids before the wedding. Our every need was taken care of. And then, there was Ms Elaine, the personal attendant, she made sure we had plenty of champagne and finger foods before the wedding.
Everything was Perfect!!! Thank you!!!

Our Wedding Dreams came true!
Kalin, Sharon and Kathy have thought of every single detail when it comes to this once-in-a-lifetime event. Their advice and coordination made our day seamless. The food was to die for, and made in-house. Our outside vendors were able to easily worked with the Degas House staff, because of their collective passions. This establishment is beautiful, inside and out!

Words cannot fully express my love and gratitude for the exceptional team at the Degas House. They are true pros who know how to put together a wedding like the backs of their hands.
From the beginning, communication was thorough and prompt. We had to plan our entire event remotely due to COVID-19, and though we were a little hesitant to put down our deposit for this venue sight-unseen, I am so glad that we did, since it turned out to be everything we hoped and more.
We had both our ceremony and reception here, and the flip between the two was seamless. I can't recommend the Dressing of the Bride package enough -- it was so great getting to have one last sleepover with my bridesmaids, and it made getting ready so much less stressful.
I bragged to everyone about how no fuss the preparation was, since Degas House offers food and drink packages (and all my guests raved about how good the food was).
In addition to all that, we always felt taken care of and looked after during our wedding. They made sure we had a moment together alone to eat before we went to greet our guests, they coordinated with and cued all of our vendors perfectly, and what's more they supplied us with a great list of folks they recommended, which made the remote planning about 100x easier.
I would like to specifically thank Kathy and Sharon, the dynamic duo who made our Degas House wedding everything we dreamed and more.
The venue itself is everything you would want for a NOLA wedding. It is historical, charming, and unique. If you want a cozy, classic, romantic wedding with a gorgeous outdoor courtyard that feels like you're in a garden, you can't do better than Degas House.

WOW, Nola couples, I cannot say enough about the Degas House!!! My wedding occurred on September 27, 2020, so many of my wedding plans were forced to change due to the pandemic. Ms. Kathy and Ms. Sharon were SO kind and flexible throughout our entire process, and were there every step of the way with me during last minute changes due to the pandemic. They made our day absolute PERFECT, and were so communicative and responsive. On wedding day, we did not even have to lift a finger, and they made sure that we had the best night of our lives!!! The Degas House is perfect, because so many of the little details such as the food, chairs, wedding coordinator, etc. are already provided. Not to mention, in my biased opinion, it is the most beautiful venue in Nola! We are so thankful for Ms. Kathy and Ms. Sharon, and my guests cannot stop talking about how wonderful the entire staff at the Degas House is!

A big plus is that the Degas House took care of all of the food, so we did not have to worry about hiring an outside caterer, and our guests could not stop talking about how delicious the food was! 3/14/2020. Where do I begin....The Degas House in itself is absolutely stunning, inside and outside. The grounds are well maintained and has such a natural beauty, there is not a huge demand for any more decorating. Then there is the staff. Everyone, from housekeeping, wedding planner, kitchen staff, the men that set up chairs and tables, the bartenders (fantastic lovely people), everyone helpful and professional. A shoutout to Ms. Sharon for always being positive and helpful - especially on the special day making sure we were hydrated and had everything we needed. A real special shoutout to Kaitlyn Ramsey the woman with all the hats - wedding coordinator, inn keeper, etc. She took charge, made sure things happened when they were supposed to happen, people were where they needed to be, coordinated with all of the vendors, made my life so easy!! I never saw her sweat - she handled all those things without losing her smile. She always answered the phone and always had time to talk. She gave me so much confidence weeks before the wedding that everything would be just wonderful. I love you Kaitlyn! And, the wedding was wonderful. We can’t wait for the pictures because they will show the happiness and joy of every single guest - and especially of the bride and groom.

I would like to add that we used an outside caterer which proved to be a huge mistake. Wanted to include this in case someone makes a bad review because of the food. It wasn’t Degas House’s food. Big mistake on our part (sorry Ms. Sharon, and I say that with love)

Our wedding day was truly magical! The building its self is so beautifully preserved. The interior design of the house is timeless and true to the era the house was built. The neighborhood is absolutely charming. Esplanade Street made for a beautiful second line parade.
We were blown away by the exceptional service provided by the staff at Degas House. Everyone was so accommodating. Kaitlyn was on top of everything. Answering every email, text, and phone call. She took care of so many details, and had my back when it came to my vision, and how I wanted the day to go. She helped make my dream wedding a reality, and doing so with a smile on her face the entire time. Chef Sharron is such a savory individual. She made us feel at home in every way! The food she prepared was absolutely delicious. Our guests raved about every dish.
I always say “Love is in the details”, and I felt so much love and so taken care of by both of you, and I couldn’t be more grateful. I would 10 out of 10 recommend Degas House as your venue for your next event!

The place was fantastic, the food was excellent, the final coordinator was awesome. We really could not have asked for a better location and evening.
There's only reason I give it 4 starts instead of 5 is the turnover in employees we experienced. We went through 3 coordinators, and our room was double booked. However, everything was handled properly and there ended up being no issues.
Additionally, we were going to use the venue's stereo, but the night before the wedding we found out that the speaker was busted, luckily we had a friend.
Finally, the food was AMAZING and the catering team are EXPERIENCED and EXCEPTIONAL. They have been around the block more than once.

Bravo to the entire team at the Degas House! We just concluded my daughter and new son-in-law’s fabulous wedding weekend and could not be more pleased with the beauty and hospitality of the Degas House and crew. Kaitlyn was invaluable in the planning phase and Miss Sharon and her kitchen staff delivered a true New Orleans feast that was second to none. My husband and I planned our New Orleans wedding at the Degas House from afar (from California!) and we had the most amazing day! Everything went smoothly - our wedding planner was able to easily work with the preferred vendors and their amazing day of coordinator Carmen (she was such a dream and completely accommodating for all of our out of town needs). We had 75 people attend the wedding and it was intimate and amazing.
The food was PHENOMENAL - Ms. Sharon is truly the best chef and she made our day even more special by coordinating an impromptu sparkler processional at the end of the night which was so very special for our family and friends.
We definitely recommend doing the Estelle suite package (so the bridal party can get ready on site and you and your spouse can stay at the property the night of the wedding!). The only thing we would have added was an extra hour or so to our package just so we do more dancing!! We had zero complaints the entire day - the full staff was generous, accommodating and so incredibly kind.
The Degas House now holds such a special place in our hearts, we can't wait to visit in years to come and re-live our perfect day!

We absolutely loved our wedding at the Degas House. It was perfectly intimate but also spacious for guests to feel comfortable. If you were going to book the Degas House , you could honestly book it for the food alone - it was SO good!! There were so many delicious options to choose from, we had such a hard time narrowing it down at our tasting! But everything was delicious and guests still are raving about it! While in town planning our destination wedding, we visited this lovely venue and had a chance to talk to several of the employees who seemed very nice. However, once we started talking quotes and numbers, they stopped returning our phone calls and emails. Not sure if it was the fact that we were having less than 50 people at our wedding or their blasé attitude since they’re a non-profit and don’t really need the money. Either way, we were very disappointed with our interaction with them.

We had our beautiful, intimate wedding here in November 2017. We had about 115 people and probably could've accommodated another 10-15 (but more than that would've gotten too crowded.)
Food: Ms. Sharon's New Orleans delicacies are hands-down amazing. The staff accommodated our request for special meat (halal) -- we told them about a local vendor and they were able to source from there directly. Our guests all raved about the food.
Accommodation: We fit our sizable immediate families by booking all the rooms (minus maybe one). The staff was generous in that (and the breakfast again is amazing.)
Facilities: The venue is very pretty. We were allowed to place our personal photos in frames around the inside of the house, creating an intimate feel. Some fixtures here and there were in need of repair (like some knobs and handles on the bathtub faucets; and the alarms kept going off in the night, so hopefully they've fixed that since then.)
We had a second line that ran through the neighborhood and our guests loved it. The staff gave us advice on the route and how to obtain the city permit.
Staff: The staff was helpful with some NOLA charm, especially June. During our planning, we did cycle cycle through three Degas House wedding planners. Hopefully, they've found someone who will stick. This caused some communication issues and inconsistencies, but come showtime things came together.
Dishes: This was my biggest concern. We assumed we would be receiving the standard ceramic-type plates you get at hotels (or even a not-so-fancy buffet restaurant.) Instead, we saw our guests eating in tiny plastic-looking plates and bowls. Degas staff pointed out the contract said "acrylic" plates, but we didn't realize that would essentially mean heavy plastic ware. (Guests also complained that it was hard to get much on their plates.) To their credit, the staff remedied this issue later by dropping some fees. We'd just recommend clarifying what dishes you are getting.
All in all, we had a very memorable and joyful wedding at Degas House. We hope they are working on restoration efforts to preserve this pretty venue.

My husband and I planned our New Orleans wedding from out of town and thanks to the Degas House the day went off without a hitch. Our guests told us it was a beautiful and intimate space to have a wedding and everyone LOVED the food (thanks Ms Sharon!). We chose the “Dressing of the Bride” package which really helped keep the day stress free. My bridesmaids and I got ready in two beautiful rooms in the house and were spoiled with breakfast, champagne and snacks! The Degas House did change event coordinators multiple times, but Jaynell was the final coordinator on our big day and was very helpful. She made sure we always had a drink in our hand and food at our table, and oversaw the setup and clean up of the event so we didn’t have to worry about it. I even lost a piece of wedding day jewelry and asked the Degas House staff on a whim if anyone had come across it - they had people search everywhere and found it!!! In all, they provided just what we wanted - a beautiful space for an courtyard wedding where we planned exactly what we wanted to happen and the staff executed those plans when the big day came around.

My mother-in-law threw us a wedding reception here the Monday before Thanksgiving 2018 since we eloped. It was the perfect venue for us. Degas is my favorite artist and we had the pleasure of touring the houses back in 2016. It was a very special night and the staff treated us very well! The bartender remembered what we liked. The kitchen staff made sure my husband and I got enough food before we had to go back out and chat with everyone. They helped my mother-in-law move everything inside when it started to drizzle. It was the perfect evening and I loved every minute of it! Thank you for showing us such a good time!

We could not have dreamed of a better venue and staff to hold our celebration. I am still pinching myself to think, did all that really happen so wonderfully?? And yes, it did. The venue and staff are remarkable. The Degas has so much romantic character in that it is historic and simply exquisitely beautiful. Located on a breathtaking street with huge old trees--it is everything that New Orleans represents, and authentically so. The Degas is a treasure tucked away for people to discover if they are lucky.
The staff are all so kind, lovely and professional people, that we wanted to make sure we show our thanks and gratitude. Jenelle was AMAZING at organizing our wedding. She was always 2 steps ahead in ensuring we had everything and providing us with what we needed and or wanted. Jenelle was the pillar to this whole event and made it happen with grace and professionalism. She was so present and aware of what needed to be attended to and she made us all so happy. Words cant express how thankful I am to have met her. I call Jenelle my friend now and could not have felt more grateful for all that she did for us.
ALSO--The food was out of this world delicious. The head chef, Ms. Sharon is wonderful. I absolutely loved her. She made all the dishes so great, I thought we were at a fine dining restaurant. My experience with wedding food in the past has never been anything but unappetizing and nothing to remark over---but at the Degas, it was home made, delicious and soulful. All of our guests were non stop raving about the food. I could go on and on but I just wanted to say how grateful both my husband and myself are to have had the unforgettable memory at the Degas to celebrate with all of our loved ones.
I can't wait to go back and visit because it will be a place, I consider to be apart of our family. Thank you Degas for making our dreams come true!

Planning a New Orleans wedding from Michigan should have been super hard and stressful, but it wasn't! Jaynell (the wedding coordinator) and the Degas House staff were constantly available by phone and email to answer all my questions and ease my mind. The food is OUT OF THIS WORLD, thanks to in-house chef, Mrs. Sharon. It was such a relief to have everything in the same place. We had a short and beautiful ceremony in the courtyard, and while we were doing a 2nd line around the area with our guests and a brass band, the Degas House staff flipped to courtyard into a GORGEOUS reception space, with all of my centerpieces and table pieces in the perfect spots. I highly recommend the Estelle package, because having the beautiful Estelle suite to get ready in with my girls was such an awesome experience. My hubby and I will always come back to visit the Degas House and YOU should book your wedding here. You won't regret it.

We couldn't have asked for a better experience on our wedding in April. Ms. Sharon truly brings it all together wonderfully. The food was delicious. Degas House was very attentive and even got our tent company to give a chandelier free of charge to make everything look even better than it already looked. Finally, the setup was fantastic for a night of dancing, eating, drinking, and socializing with our loved ones. I would absolutely have our wedding here again.

My wife and I were married here earlier this year, and I could not be more relieved to say that everything went *perfectly*! The food was on point, the band seemed to have plenty of space to work in, and the coordinator kept us in the loop and worked very well with Beth's Flowers, our wedding planners.
They even tolerated us renting out nearly every room for the weekend with our close friends and family, and that was also a big plus.
Thank you guys for everything you did for us!

I was part of a wedding party that stayed here for a wedding in January. My friend woke up to her bag of medicine that had been eaten through by a mouse. We even saw the mouse in the corner of our room. We tried to put that past us and enjoy the day. The staff was attentive and helpful throughout the day, but the venue did not live up to the reviews. I understand it is a historical property, but the building itself needs a lot of work. As a lifer in hospitality, I was disappointed in the management response. They seemed to not care and shrugged it off as “New Orleans.” Yes, I live here and understand, but please- acknowledge that my party and I had an issue with the mouse. For what we paid, we at least should have gotten a few free bottles of water.

I had a wonderful time at a family Christmas party that was held at the Degas House. It was decorated beautifully for the occasion and the food and service were absolutely outstanding! There was an extremely gifted piano player, which was suggested by the venue, who played festive holiday music throughout the evening. The venue provided for an elegant evening of socializing around the large Christmas tree just inside the main entrance as well as enjoying the outside patio and the socializing under the lights in front of the fountain. It was defiantly a memorable evening for all in attendance.

We had a blast holding our wedding at Degas House! Jaynell was really nice and accommodating throughout the whole process; she even let my mother-in-law practice with their piano the days before our wedding. It rained during our wedding, and the staff were really helpful about moving the ceremony indoors. The food was also incredibly delicious; every item in the menu was a hit. And obviously, the venue is absolutely gorgeous, indoors and out.

I was married at the Degas House on Sunday 10/21/2108. I had an amazing experience with Jaynell Jeanfreau and the Degas house staff. Jaynell helped me plan my dream wedding all the way from California. We did it all thru phone and email. I met her only the day before my wedding day. She walked me thru ceremony and went over every last detail. I thought I’d be a nervous wreck since I hadn’t met her in person or seen the house only in pictures. She exceeded my expectations. She was so professional and had the same vision as me. My wedding day couldn’t have been more perfect. I had a carefree day and was able to enjoy every moment with my guest. The House was beautiful and well kept. I didn’t need any decorations . the art work was a wonderful addition for our photos. I would highly recommend The Degas House for your wedding or for a tour. Thanks to Jaynell and your fabulous team. You made all my dreams come true.

Our wedding at the Degas House in December 2017 was actually picture-perfect. It was exactly what my husband and I wanted. We could not have found a more beautiful, classic New Orleans venue, paired with amazing staff and incredible food and accommodations. If you're looking for old-world, subtle elegance and knowledgeable but down-to-earth staff, look no further.
The atmosphere of the Degas House is classy without being flashy, or in your face. The natural beauty of the indoor and outdoor spaces speaks for itself. We were married outside in the courtyard at 10 am, and then had a seated indoor brunch for our small wedding of about 60 people. The staff worked with us to create the wedding we wanted, even though it didn't fit into their pre-set package. The staff was incredibly accommodating, generous, and kind. They seemed to genuinely care about our happiness and making our wedding special. Our wedding coordinator was spot-on in understanding what we wanted for the ceremony and reception, and was able to handle all of the small stuff on the morning of, so that I could relax and keep my mind on the important things. Our ceremony had a few complexities, but Kira was able to direct and cue everything perfectly, every time.
The food prepared by Ms. Sharon at the Degas House is truly spectacular. I haven't had better food anywhere in New Orleans. The kitchen staff was completely willing to accommodate our guests' dietary needs, from nut and tomato allergies to veganism. After the wedding, we stayed overnight in the Estelle suite, a space so opulent you feel as if you've gone back in time. It was truly unforgettable. I am so grateful to everyone at the Degas House who made our wedding such a positive and stress-free experience. We knew we were in good hands, and so we were able to relax and just enjoy our special day.
If an old, historic venue is your thing, or if you want a background for a "fairy tale" wedding, you can't do better than the Degas House. It is classic New Orleans, and just plain class.

I work with the Degas House frequently as a professional event planner in the French community. When I think of French Culture in New Orleans I naturally think of the Edgar Degas House. Most recently the Bastille Day event was one of the best ever. I was once again overwhelmed by the cultural appeal, elegance and charm. The continuous professional of the staff and service is impeccable. The cuisine is some of the best in the city. Hats off again to Chef Sharon Parker. I highly recommend this event space to everyone! What a cultural treasure the Degas House is.

Beautiful, unique venue! We had the complete package - bride and groom prep, Episcopalian ceremony, and reception. The Degas House coordinator made sure our wedding weekend was free of worries. The venue handled our 270 guests with delicious traditional New Orleans food and 3 bars that kept the drinks flowing. The spacious grounds allowed the band and dancing to be in full swing with other areas for quiet conversations. Guests loved the architecture and paintings that make the Degas House a perfect backdrop for our family and friends to share our joy in our daughter's marriage.

My wife and I had our wedding and reception at Degas House, and it could not have been more perfect. I was pleasantly surprised by how little stress we experienced the day of the wedding, because everything was smoothly handled for us. Everyone was so nice and professional, and the food was amazing. It was also great to be able to have our wedding party stay on-site with us and avoid everyone running around town (especially since our wedding was during Mardi Gras season). Also, for any same-sex couples reading this, us being a lesbian couple was a complete non-issue at Degas House. Everyone was super friendly and respectful to us and our guests.

I will say that planning our wedding at the Degas House was stressful, as we went through 3 wedding coordinators during the planning (the last one came in a week before our wedding and knew little of what we had planned). Thankfully, my husband and I are pretty flexible and cared more that our guests from near and far had a great experience. The wedding weekend itself was completely perfect and everything we wanted. Ms. Sharon in the kitchen is amazing. The staff took perfect care of us all night. It was an intimate and beautiful setting. The new coordinator Trevor ended up handling a family situation smoothly and gracefully. So all in all, the wedding itself was perfect!

Degas House did an great job with our wedding. There were some hiccups—after 2 decades of managing and planning weddings, their coordinator had to retire, and the Degas House went through some difficulties replacing her 3 times in the year we were working with them. So, keep detailed notes of all of your decisions. Jaynell took over for the stretch run, and she did an amazing job of accommodating our needs and handling last minute and “day of” issues as well as making sure all of the agreements we had with previous coordinators were taken care of..
Also, keep in mind that these facilities are part of a historically significant building—don’t expect modern bathrooms, or tight fitting windows, but do expect to have a great time and enjoy a beautiful property. Everyone from the owner to the house staff was very accommodating and did their best to make us comfortable and ensure we had a great time.
The food was amazing and the venue is beautiful. The staff is friendly and helpful, and overall they did a great job on our wedding.

We could not have chosen a better venue! The chef and the wedding coordinator were with us every step of the way! My husband lives abroad and Jaynell, the coordinator, even took the time to FaceTime with him so he could be part of everything - it was extremely thoughtful and friendly service! I felt like I could be in touch about anything and she was readily there to help and always happy to do so! On the wedding day, she took care of everything throughout the day and anticipated my EVERY need, this allowed me to just enjoy the day with my family and friends and I am so grateful for her hard work!
The Chef, Sharon, hosted a beautiful tasting for us prior to the wedding, we were able to taste and makes requests for every individual dish. At the wedding, she made sure every single guest was taken care of and so were we. We even had a private dinner upstairs before rejoining the party, which was a much needed moment after the ceremony. We underestimated how much we would love that moment and are very grateful for it!
Our wedding was small (50 guests) and there was only one child present, Sharon let her request her own meal and cooked whatever she requested, which was so thoughtful! Generally, alongside Jaynell, she made sure every detail ran smoothly. The bar staff was also great, kind and attentive and there was enough booze for everyone. Several of our guests are still raving about how incredible the night was..I'd say this is thanks to the Degas House staff! We will definitely be returning for our future anniversaries! Can't wait to see you all again! Much love, Marina and Will Rastall

We had an incredible wedding and absolutely suggest it as the perfect place to get married in New Orleans. But there are things we would do differently.
What the Degas House got right were big wins: beautiful setting, delicious food, helpful staff, comfortable accommodations.
We hosted 125 guests, with both ceremony and reception at Degas House. We used the courtyard between the two houses as an aisle and converted that outdoor area to the dance floor. Guests traveled from across the U.S. and overseas. Guests, especially those who hadn’t been to New Orleans, appreciated the venue’s beauty and historic charm. It’s a gorgeous home, perfect for pictures and mingling. Our band had plenty of room to set up with a dance floor, guests shuffled between houses and bar/buffet lines moved quickly.
On our wedding day, thunderstorms flooded New Orleans. Though we thought we’d have to move the ceremony indoors, which the staff was ready to do, the rented tents worked perfectly, and water mostly drained from the outdoor areas.
Our guests were impressed with the food. It was especially a treat for the out-of-towners. The staff also accommodated our requests with alcohol/mixers for the bar.
On the night before the wedding, I spent the night with my bridesmaids in the Estelle Suite. On the day of the wedding, the groomsmen used the Mathilde Suite to get ready while we stayed in the Estelle Suite. These rooms were a perfect place to stay comfortable ahead of the ceremony and gave us an easy place to store things. We’d highly recommend staying at the venue the night of your wedding, as it’s a comfortable, luxurious suite.
While all of these great memories will be the ones that stand out, the one main issue we had was with the sound permit for a live band to perform. We wanted a party-like atmosphere and booked a large brass band to perform, even extending the reception an extra hour to end at 11 p.m. However, we ultimately lost an hour of the reception after a neighbor called the police with a noise complaint. Our band had to end early, forcing us to miss our second line around the venue.
Because of staff turnover, we worked with 4 different wedding coordinators. Those personnel changes may have caused some things to get lost in the shuffle, including perhaps the institutional knowledge of how the city’s permitting process/sound ordinances work. We got an event permit ourselves, but the city requires amplified sound to end at 10PM — the venue didn’t make that clear to us when we extended the reception until 11.
If you’re planning a wedding here, you will absolutely want to get a special event permit from the city (easy to get) and plan to have everything end by 10PM. Losing that hour of our reception was a costly disappointment that could have been avoided had the venue staff more clearly understood/disclosed the city’s permitting process and sound ordinances.
We started the wedding ceremony at least 30 minutes later than we planned. Though our wedding party was ready and waiting, we had to find the coordinator and prompt her to start the ceremony.
Erica, our final wedding coordinator, was kind and helpful. David, the venue’s owner, was friendly and warm. Sharron was a ROCK STAR who helped keep everything going. Servers and other staff were professional and top-notch.
Despite the few things we would have changed — primarily the sound permit and 10PM end time — we would absolutely recommend the Degas House as an ideal wedding venue.

After hosting our wedding here I would not recommend this venue. We though that having everything organized in house would reduce our stress on the big day. However, there is high turn over in their wedding department so we ended up having 4 different wedding coordinators throughout the planning process and none of them had notes from their predecessor so we had to restart each time. They also had different pricing deals each time. The last coordinator showed up the day before our wedding so she had no idea what was going on and had to interrupt precious moments with my mom, family, and new husband to ask about things like where do the sparklers go, what time do we want to cut the cake, etc. I will say the kitchen staff was amazing and it was beautiful but there are a lot of beautiful venues in NOLA that offer more value for this large investment. Also, the bridal suit roof leak so that water drips on the bed if it rains.

Thank you very much for your review. While the Degas House Wedding reviews speak for thems...
elves and are witnessed by numerous awards that are directed at the entire Degas House Events Team, including our long-term 21 year employee, Ms. Sharon Parker, who is our Events Manager and works every wedding and coordinates the entire Degas House Events Team. Occasionally coordinators do leave for a variety of reasons, including when husbands are transferred out of the country for their jobs, and other employment offers opportunities that fit their lifestyles more appropriately, but it is always a disappointment to see long-term employees leave the Degas House. Although, you did have a new coordinator for your Wedding, you were under amazing care with Ms. Sharon and the rest of the events team. While it has been quite a few months since your wedding, as the owner, I would have liked to have known this at the time of the wedding or immediately following so that the appropriate action could be taken in a timely manner. Why wasn’t something mentioned to the Manager/Owner sooner? As a Historic Museum home, we take great pride in reserving the legacy of such a World Renown Artist, and we are proud of all our reviews and awards, but we are surprised nothing was said up until now. However, I will be making this phone call immediately to investigate the validity of these allegations further, and to seek resolution with you now that we are aware.
This is our 2nd response to this bride, with absolutely no response to our phone calls to her, we are unsure of why the bride would update her review. However, written documentation by the bride and both sets of parents state very clearly how pleased they were, as we keep a journal of each wedding and we ask for a review on the day of the wedding, which follow here and completely contradict this review that we feel stuck with, as no one will return our phone calls: The Bride’s review, night of the wedding:
Ms. Sharon,
"We appreciate the love and dedication you put into our wedding. You and your staff are so warm and thoughtful. You are the spirit of the Degas House and we could not have done it without you. It was a beautiful day that we will always cherish.
Love, Cailidh+Andy Booth".
The Parents of the Groom review, from the night of the wedding:
"Awesome celebration. Everything was perfect. Food was great! Thanks a lot! The Booth’s."
The parents of the bride review, from the night of the wedding:
"My local (especially) guests were so impressed with your food. I was impressed with your seasoned guidance during our rehearsal, your patience when I forgot to pick up the canes and it was too late for my husband to find a place to get some. Your patience and versatility with me struggling to deal with the challenges of staff change. Professional-beyond compare".
As the Founder and Active Owner of the Degas House, I am baffled with the discontinuity here, where we have glowing reviews the night of the wedding and a one-star review with absolutely no explanation for the change in attitude. I stand behind my staff and our services 100%, and I ask the reader to please read the many 5 Star reviews we work very hard to achieve and do so consistently and have been for at least the last 7+ years.
Oh yes, the leak into the bedroom was caused by a guest in the room above, allowing the bath water to run over the side of the tub! This was of course quickly remedied and repaired.
I intend to follow through by attempting communication once again with this couple, as I am proud of the name of the Degas House and the work we do for ALL of our brides. If there is a real problem, we must know so we can respond, and if needed, correct the issue. However, by the inconsistency, it is difficult to take their review seriously or respectfully. THANKS for reading! Best of luck to the readers!

The Degas House was the most special place we could have had our daughter’s wedding. The historic house and lodgings was spectacular, where we stayed two nights, and the courtyard where the wedding was held was amazing. The only situation we ran into was that the Degas room was not available the day of the wedding for pictures, which was disappointing, especially since it was told it would be. Other than that, this historic setting along with our photographer made the most memorable pictures. We will absolutely recommend The Degas House to everyone wanting a beautiful, historic, New Orleans wedding. Thank you David V.

Thank you to the Degas House for making my wedding on 3/23 seamless. There was a little concern with the final product since I was planning it from Illinois. In the end, my husband and I were thoroughly impressed. The food was amazing (Sharon is a gem), the amount of staff working our event provided excellent service and moved throughout the evening not standing out. Even our signature cocktail was delicious (watermelon mojito). Everything we were guaranteed 1.5 years from the big day was delivered.

While planning a wedding, I think it's normal to wonder whether everything is going to successfully come together and create this picturesque event that you've had in your mind. The venue, of course, is a key component to any wedding as it provides the backdrop and setting for everything else. In short, we are so pleased that we picked the Degas House. This historical landmark provided a unique and unforgettable experience. What really made things perfect was its staff. Specifically, Kira successfully and professionally coordinated with all vendors and took on the brunt of the work. She also provided a calming presence that reassured my bride and our families, which is no small feat. Also, Sharron cooked up a storm, making delicious dancing fuel that passed our discerning native New Orleanian taste tests. We are beyond happy with the way our wedding day turned out and a lot of credit goes out to this wonderful venue.

The Degas House is an amazing place to get married! It was so very convenient to be able to get ready at, get married at and then spend the night when the partying was over. Definitely recommend all brides take some stress out of their wedding day and do it this way. We received nothing but compliments about the food and the atmosphere is already beautiful. Kira, who was recently hired on, was an amazing asset to us. She made sure everything ran smoothly with such grace! Thank you Kira for your hard work.

There is nothing these guys won’t do to ensure your day is perfect.
David and his team were there for us every step of the way.
If I could give them a million stars, I would.
Best day ever!!!!

I’m originally form New Orleans, my wife - a native Aussie - also loves New Orleans with a feverous passion. So, we didn’t need to look any further once we found the Degas House! The wedding was like something out of a movie! And the Estelle suite - where we stayed that night - is simply to die for! Everyone in the wedding party absolutely loved it as well!
My wife and I could not have asked for a better staff. They really know how to handle all the nuances and answered all of the little questions that arose to help fill in the gaps of planning.
A uniquely amazing one-of-a-kind venue for a truly once-in-a-lifetime event.
Thank you to David for championing the passion of his life that is Degas & to all the staff (especially the chefs!!! WOW!).
