Heather at DeLuxe is awesome!! We wanted one small cake at each table for our reception and she took the idea and ran with it! All of our guests loved it and the cakes were delicio...
us! She was able to deliver 20 cakes in 5 different flavors decorated 5 different ways and every single one was amazing! Highly recommend for any Iowa City event!
I love desserts and I knew that for my wedding instead of having the traditional cake for everyone, I wanted to have a dessert table filled with a variety of treats. Deluxe was abl...
e to make this vision come true. We also decided to go with a smaller cake that was not only stunning (literally my dream cake) but they were able to make vegan (thanks lactose intolerance) so I could enjoy it. And let me tell you, this was the best vegan cake I have ever tasted. You couldn't tell that it didn't have the traditional butter and milk in it. If there was one thing I wish I had done differently, it would have been to order MORE. We went through the math at our consultation and figured people usually eat about 2 items. Not at my wedding. Everything looked and tasted so good that people were taking multiples of each. I blinked and all that was left were crumbs.
Jamie and her staff were great to work with. I grew up around the corner from the bakery so when I said "yes" I knew who I wanted to make the cake. The flavors are amazing!!!!!! Ou...
r guests raved about them.
Easy to work with and were so helpful!
We originally were going to have Deluxe bake our cake for our wedding. We are originally from Iowa City (so we were having our wedding there) and drove over 2 hours to have a cake ...
taste testing. We scheduled this a few months out. When we got there, she told us that construction had gone over schedule, and we couldn't do it then. She didn't say sorry for us having driven hours. When I got home, I had an email from her (after we had left the shop) saying "We won't be able to do it today- sorry. Let's schedule another time." She completely pretended like we hadn't even shown up to the bakery. If someone is this disorganized and unable to take responsibility for her mistakes, I do not want them doing my wedding cake. We got a different baker and were so glad we did!
We loved our cake it was beautiful and delicious! We got many compliments! Jamie was wonderful to work with. We would definitely recommend.
Wonderful staff to work with! We got so many compliments on the cake! We even get a free small cake on our 1st Anniversary!
We ended up using DeLuxe for our cake (even though they were our second choice our 1st choice was scheduled to have a baby the week of our wedding). Please note, we are not cake pe...
ople, we're much more interested in savory foods, AND almost all other major vendors were more important to us than cake.
Initially she tried to sell us on how the cake is the 2nd biggest thing people are going to look at after the bride & groom and we "didn't want people straining their necks to find the cake" - ridiculous. Also, EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. we talked to them we would be told about the type of baking she does, the way she bakes, the ingredients she will and will not use, etc. which made every conversation excruciating to the point that my (very involved) husband let me handle any correspondence and it ended up becoming a joke we shared with family & friends. And wanted so badly to share with her that..."We get that you are proud of your skill but we personally don't care, we already booked you so please just stop talking."
BUT I will say, the cake was delivered on time and we did hear from guests that the flavors we chose were delicious.
So was she obnoxious to work with YES. But she was also reliable, less expensive than the other person we spoke with AND most importantly we got positive reviews that everything was tasty from our guests.
Cake was delicious and looked beautiful. The staff wasn't the friendliest though. Cake prices are good, pastries and cupcakes are a bit pricey.
