Dennis Dean-a Catering

Dennis Dean's food was incredible. It was one of the only caterers (out of the 8 tastings we had) who didn't have that "catering" taste to their food. Everything tasted fresh (which is was since it was predominantly cooked the day of on site) with lots of color and flavor. They also were willing to build a menu specific to our needs with basically no limitations. They were a bit more expensive than competitors, but for the quality of the food it was worth the price. I gave it 4 stars v. 5, because during the planning process it was rather difficult to get in touch with our rep. Whether it was via email or via phone, we either never received a response, or received one late. For me, this was a huge downfall because I was very hands-on planning the wedding to make sure that we had the menu we wanted while staying on budget. As the invoices came in, the price tended to go up. At the end of the day, our rep was willing to work with us to get it to a manageable place, but it made me uneasy as it was hard to even get in touch in order to negotiate.

Our daughter's wedding was nearly perfect with a beautifu venue, meaningful ceremony,great band, and flowers to die for! We hired Dennis Dean Catering, as we thought the food was very tasty and interesting when we went for our pre-contract tasting. They were easy to work with, so it gives me great sadness to have to write a mediocre review. We were assigned a great Sales Manager/ Consultant who helped us with menu choices, linen selection, and floor plan. We opted to use "family style" service as a way to give guests more variety and amount to eat without having the wait lines that buffet style requires. My concern with family style was whether all the food platters with the five various items for the entree (2 main and 3 side dishes) would all come out at the same time so that guests could serve themselves and have all of the items on their dinner plate to eat the meal as a whole. Our Dennis Dean Sales Manager assured me on two separate occasions that all the food would come out at one time, and that we had enough servers to make that happen for our 225 guests. We would have been willing to pay for more servers to ensure that our guests would get their food as a whole, rather than each item coming separately with several minutes between each of the 5 items. Unfortunately, this is where the caterer failed us. One guest reported that it took close to 20 minutes from when the first item, a vegetable platter, was delivered to the table until the main item was delivered. I was very disappointed and embarrassed that a caterer of this caliber could not figure out how to get food out to 23 tables. When discussing this with our close family and friends after the wedding, several wondered why they didn't bring all of the platters to each table, then moving on to the next table. Instead they delivered the vegetable to each table, then the potatoes to each table, and so on and so forth. I rate this company a 5 for their food quality but a 1 for their service execution.

We had more compliments about the food at our wedding than any other wedding I have attended. Dennis Dean offers a variety of options for dinners, including plated (sit-down), standard buffet, or chef-attended stations. We went with the chef-attended stations and everyone was able to try a little bit (OK, a LOT) of everything. As the bride and groom, we still got full plates of food to eat before we entred into the reception. Shelby is the most amazing person to work with and she not only helps with food choices, but also works with wedding planners to help coordinate the layout and overall look of the wedding. Very hands-on!

We had dinner stations at our wedding, as well as a cocktail hour with passed hors d' ouerves. The food was very good, everyone was talking about it! Of course, I didn't get to eat any that day, but I really enjoyed everything at the tastings. They have a unique menu so my advice is just try it if something seems like an odd combination. We did and it was some of the most tasty and interesting food - and our guests loved it! Dennis Dean has a phenomenal staff and I really enjoyed everyone that I got to work with.
