I highly recommend Derek & Kayla for your engagement and wedding photo needs! I first reached out to them as I liked their editing style: light, bright and fun, yet still classic.
I am so happy we ended up working with them as they knocked it out of the park with our photos and brought a sweet and calm presence for our day. It was great to have 2 shooters who are so used to working with each other and kept the photo process moving efficiently so we could enjoy as much of the celebration as possible.
We also had to reschedule our engagement shoot a few times due to covid and weather. They were very kind and accommodating about this!
Our photos turned out absolutely perfect, we have gotten many compliments from family and friends! They captured our day so well and I am so grateful to have these photos to look back on for many years to come ❤️✨

I truly enjoyed working with Derek and Kayla. Unfortunately, Kayla wasn’t feeling good the day of, but their assistant, Eva, did a great job filling in. They were all so easy to talk to in person and communicate with over text and email. The samples I have received so far are quite literally jaw-dropping. I am foaming at the mouth waiting for the rest!! I highly recommend choosing Derek and Kayla to work with. I was so excited to work with them and so glad I got the chance to!

Derek, Kayla, and Kristen-you were all an absolute blast to work with! Derek-we absolutely loved your excitement and enthusiasm when we we were taking our engagement photos with you. Kayla and Kristen-we loved how we instantly just connected with you both and loved how we could just be ourselves with you. Everything the day of our wedding, felt way less intimidating and stressful because you both knew how to just make us laugh. We're extremely grateful for how well you also worked with our videographers and just all worked so well as a team, especially considering how known of you had even met each other until that day. Thanks for making our day so special and we'd love to have you as our photographers for any ther future events we may have!

If you are looking for an exceptional photographer for your big day look no further, Derek and Kayla are the most wonderful people to have capture your wedding day. They are such a great team and so pleasant to work with.
We decided to book one photographer and had the pleasure of working with Derek. We love Derek and he proved to be incredibly talented and professional.
He was truly the saving grace of our wedding. During the whirlwind day he kept us calm and composed. He kept us on a timeline and checked in with us better than our own planner. Then, after receiving our photos we were blown away by the quality of work. He has a beautiful eye for capturing the most special moments and sweetest details. He provided us with such gentle and perfect direction that we felt like models. We would highly recommend booking with Derek and Kayla. We can’t thank them enough for providing us with the most breathtaking photos of our union.

Don't hesitate if you are thinking of hiring Derek & Kayla for any of your events!!! They are absolutely amazing. From the beginning, they had great communication with us. Since we live out of state, we met over the phone to discuss our vision for our wedding. We then had a beautiful engagement session with so many amazing photos. Prior to the wedding, they reached out to us to review if there were specific photos/poses we wanted. We got married on a Saturday, and Derek & Kayla helped make the day run smoothly. We got back our sneak peek photos only a couple of days later and were already obsessed. The full photo album was sent to us within a few weeks, and we got WAY more photos than we expected. The only hard part is that we love all of our pictures so much, and we can't choose our favorites to get framed for our house! We will definitely be using Derek & Kayla in the future for photo sessions, and we highly recommend them to everyone in the Bay Area!

We hired Derek & Kayla for wedding photography, with both taking photos for events over three days. We were pretty nervous since we’ve seen some bad wedding photography and intrusive photographers at past weddings, and we’re super awkward posing for photos. D&K offer a complimentary engagement photoshoot, and the time we spent with Derek during that session - not to mention the beautiful and genuine photos we received! - were immensely reassuring. Communication ahead of the wedding was streamlined, and over the three days they were so kind and flexible, regularly checking in with us to make sure we were doing okay and going above and beyond the roles of photographers. They were great about taking photos without pulling people aside or out of conversations to pose. We asked them to prioritize candid photos of ourselves and our guests and do minimum editing. They executed perfectly, and we love the results - we’re having a tough time choosing which photos to print!

We just received our wedding photos back (a few weeks after our wedding) and Derek and Kayla did a PHENOMENAL job, organically capturing all the moments of love and joy that we will treasure forever. Working with Derek and Kayla was a breeze - they were consummate pros that were also super fun and down to earth. They were incredibly attentive to our questions (before and after booking), and they graciously accommodated us when we had to reschedule our engagement shoot several times. When Kayla had to back out due to falling sick week-of, they were in constant communication and assured us repeatedly that their backup second shooter would deliver the quality and style we were expecting (the final product did not disappoint!). When we had some day-of issues with other vendors (in no way D&K's responsibility) that threatened to derail our day, Derek stepped up (unprompted) and got the issues sorted so that the trains ran on time and we could enjoy our wedding day. We are overjoyed we chose Derek & Kayla as our photographers and could not recommend them enough.

They included an engagement session before the big day which helped us talk through requests and get more special shots to use at our wedding. When it came to the big day-they were patient, flexible, dedicated to our feedback and the photos turned out stunning! Derek and Kayla just delivered our photos and we are in LOVE. These two are the best in the biz - fun, talented and know exactly how to capture authentic moments from your big day. They are professional, organized and all around wonderful humans. I also can be very awkward in front of the camera and Kayla was so helpful with directions and knew exactly how to make us both feel comfortable and relaxed. We loved our photographers! Only reason we give a 4 star and not 5 is because we personally wish there was just slightly more direction for us when posing as we aren’t models and professions (like hold my bouquet lower, or tell people to stand up straight or closer) but we could be being overly critical because we haven’t done this before so not sure what to expect. We love our pictures and are excited to start filling our house with them. Every time we look back on the pictures we are immediately brought back to the happiest day of our lives and we feel the joy and love all over again!!!

Derek drove 8 hours to shot or engagement session....WOW. We won a giveaway on his instagram and he did not sway from it. 8 hours in the dessert of CA in joshua tree state park, we had the best elopment ever. I refer derek to all my friends. My best friend kat is getting married in august and I cannot wait to see derek and kayla again !!
